The visitors had the first opportunity on 7 minutes when Stevenson fired a ball across the six yard box but the ball eluded all and went for a throw in . A minute later the exact same happened . At the other end on ten minutes good play forced a corner which Gordon Donaldson headed over at the back of the six yard box . Joe Tait was causing problems down the left for the visitors defence and after another good run his cross was cut out for a corner that came to nothing . On 21 minutes good passing play around the box just failed to create an opening for the home side . Two minutes later the visitors opened the scoring when a ball played across the box from the right hand corner of the 18 yard box found LEWIS McARTHUR at the back post unmarked to nod the ball home . Joe Tait saw an effort from the left hand side that went over the bar . Just after the half hour mark good football being played down the right saw Adam Murray fire over a cross that was turned behind for a corner under pressure . Kyle Sampson fired a shot ,after good build up play , just past the left hand post from 25 yards out .Joe Tait made another good run down the left , his cross was cleared but only as far as Greg Nicol who sent a shot just wide left of the post for the last piece of action of the half .
Broxburn went on search for the equaliser early in the second half with Tait making another good run down the left into the box but his cut back cross was cut out by the keeper . The equaliser came on 50 minutes when a ball into the box had the visiting defence all at sea , quite apt for the Mariners , and Gary Brass was about to fire home from six yards when he was brought down . GREG BINNIE stepped up to the spot and fired the spot kick home giving Jakub Welna no chance in the Camelon goal . The hosts should have taken the lead 4 minutes later when a corner to the back post should have been turned home but went wide left of the target . With the home side pressing hard Tait set up David Greenhill who fired a shot over the bar . The home side took the lead when Tait had a good shot blocked from the right and it fell kindly to GREG BINNIE who fired home for his and hiss side’s second . On the hour mark a good run by Binnie gave claims for a penalty that the officials were not prepared to sanction . With ten minutes remaining Ross Nimmo forced a great save , not for the first time , from Welna . A minute later a corner into the box was headed on by Donaldson and with his back to goal Shaun Harrison overhead kicked the ball goal ward but again Welna tipped the ball over at full stretch . The last chance fell to the home side with a couple of minutes remaining a short corner on the left was then played into the box and it was cleared to Gordon Donaldson who’s effort was tipped around over the bar .
A good performance and deserved three points just the tonic the side and club needed . With no game next week it was important to stop the bad run and we can now give players with niggling injuries a proper break and those with not so much game time will get their opportunity on Wednesday evening when we play Preston Athletic in a friendly at the Albyn Park with a 8pm kick off .
