We returned to Albyn Park on Lowland League duty on Saturday, where Gretna 2008 were the visitors.
Before the game, we raised the new Albyn Park flag and gave it a good test in the blustery conditions. Our thanks again go to Tommy Davidson, who organised the raffle that funded the flag (photo attached below this report)
Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits. Red and White shirts, white shorts and red and white socks. Visitors Gretna 2008 are in white and black shirts with black shorts and socks. Broxburn Athletic make two changes from the 2-1 Scottish Cup 1st Round defeat to Bonnyrigg last weekend. In comes Luke Watkins and Matty McDonald, who replace Kyle Bell and Chris O’ Kane in the team. Gretna 2008 make three changes to last week’s 4-0 loss to Caledonian Braves. In comes keeper Harry Cross, Kayn Cranston and Sean Mackenzie. They replace Jim Atkinson, Lewis Bell and Iain Anderson in the starting eleven.
Broxburn create a half chance right on kick off. Scott McRory-Irving’s long ball bounces over Gretna Centre back Liam Short and looks to be falling to Jamie Docherty, but the wind puts the ball beyond him, and it’s collected by Gretna keeper Harry Cross.
On seven minutes, Scott McRory Irving plays a good ball to Luke Watkins in space on the left. Watkins gets his shot away, but it has no power and is easily collected by Gretna keeper Harry Cross.
So close for Broxburn on twelve minutes. Luke Watkins plays a good ball into Errol Douglas who holds up the ball before laying it off to the onrushing Matty McDonald. McDonald’s shot hits post.
GOAL! Gretna open the scoring. A cross from the left by Andrew Oram finds Sean McKenzie who heads into the right corner of the net.

It was Scottish Cup action this weekend, as we travel along the bypass to take on Bonnyrigg Rose at Ferguson Park.
Bonnyrigg Rose are in their traditional red and white hoops with red shorts and socks, while Broxburn are in their changed kits of all navy blue. Broxburn keep the same eleven that defeated Bo’ness United last Saturday, 2-1 at Newton Park. Bonnyrigg Rose make three changes to last weekends 4-3 league loss to Berwick Rangers. In comes Callum Connolly, Max Dowling and Kieran Somerville who replace Josh Laing, Dean Hoskins and Kian Spiers.
It’s the homes side who create the first chance of the match on three minutes. Ex Broxburn striker Cammy Ross picks up a loose ball outside the box and on the half volley, drags his effort just past the right-hand post.
On nine minutes, Broxburn create their first chance of the match. Jamie Docherty’s cross from the left is headed over by Errol Douglas. On twelve minutes, a Jamie Docherty shot is palmed away by Bonnyrigg goalkeeper Ross Connelly. We had a lot of the ball today, but we weren’t as lethal as Bonnyrigg Infront of goal, and it cost us. We now look to bounce back at home to Gretna next week.

Broxburn Athletic make two changes to last weekends 3-3 draw with Hearts B. In comes Kyle Bell and Andy Rodden, who replace Greg Page and Nick Locke in the starting eleven. University of Stirling start the same eleven who drew 1-1 with Bo’ness United at Forthbank last Saturday.
Broxburn start the brighter of the two sides.
A deep Marcus Lavery cross from the left is caught by Uni keeper Buttigieg on five minutes.
GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. A long kick forward by Mikey Andrews sees Uni keeper Adam Buttigieg come of his line, the ball bounces over him and gifts Jamie Docherty a tap in from close range. Club Chaplin Andrew MacPherson confirmed that it was the first goalkeeper assist for us since Josh Blair assisting Greg Binnie against Dundonald Bluebell in a 5-5 draw at Albyn Park back in 2022.

As like the Broxburn goal, a long ball forward from right back Alex Jeanes bounces over the outrushing Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews but fortunately goes wide of the left-hand post. On ten minutes, a free kick by Euan Walker is half cleared by Sam Gormley, only as far as Finlay Moffet, whose whipped cross from the right is headed wide by Calan Ledingham.
GOAL! What a cracker by Scott McRory Irving. Chris O’Kane heads down to McRory Irving. He drives forward and from twenty-five yards, finds the right top corner with a great hit.

Broxburn Athletic are in their changed kits. Black and gold strips, shorts and socks, while Heart of Midlothian B are in white shirts with maroon shorts and white socks. Broxburn Athletic make one change to the team that defeated Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill 3-2 last Tuesday. Matty McDonald replaces Kyle Bell. Hearts B make eight changes from their 2-0 loss to Gala Fairydean at Ainslie Park last Tuesday night. In comes, Jamie McDonald, Alfie Osbourne, Matthew Gilles, Euan Glasgow, Joshua Radcliffe, Taylor Hogarth and Gus Stevenson. They replace Lyndon Tas, Gregor Crookston, Lucas Smith, Mackenzie Ross, Alfie Wilson, Callen Robb and Henry James in the starting eleven.
Broxburn create the first chance of the match on two minutes. A long ball forward by Greg Page, is misread by Hearts left back Josh Radcliffe, leaving Nick Locke with just the keeper to beat. But Locke put’s his effort wide of the right-hand post.
On seven minutes, Hearts B create their chance. Dom Plank receives the ball high up the park on the left from Connor Dow. He drives forward and his deflected shot is easily collected by Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews.
GOAL! Hearts B take the lead. Kai Smutek sends it long down the right. Mikey Andrews comes of his line and Greg Page doesn’t deal with the ball forward. Connor Dow nips in between them and stabs it home for the opening goal.

A huge moment of controversy on fifty-five minutes. Andy Rodden is fouled, but Broxburn play on. Scott McRory Irving’s cross finds Errol Douglas who with a great finish finds the net. But just as he about to make contact with the ball, referee Stirling blows his whistle for the foul. Fair play to the referee who was first to put his hand up today he got it wrong. Doesn’t happen often. Very frustrating, nonetheless. Andy Rodden takes the resulting free kick from the right has too much on the cross.
On sixty-two minutes, Hearts B make two changes. Henry James and Bobby McLuckie replace Taylor Hogarth & Josh Radcliffe.
On sixty-three minutes, Chris O’ Kane nods on a ball forward that looks to be bread and butter for Hearts skipper Kai Smutek, but he doesn’t put enough on the header back and Jamie Docherty gets to the ball, he spots Jamie McDonald of his line and attempts the lob the Hearts keeper, but McDonald manages to catch it.

Felt we deserved all three points today. The goal that was brought back puts us 4-2 up at that point and feel that is game over. But we are now undefeated in three for the Badgers and climb up to eight position in the Lowland League.
