Penicuik vs Broxburn Athletic

It was our second away trip on the bounce, as we return to league action with a trip to Penicuik.

Penicuik Athletic lie in 11th going into this fixture. In their last match, they lost to Jeanfield Swifts at home last weekend, 3-1 in the league.

Broxburn make 4 changes to the team that lost 4-1 to Tranent juniors last weekend, in the South Challenge Cup 5th round. In to the starting 11 come, Steven Anderson, Marcus Millar, Ross Nimmo and Marky Munro. They replace Kieran Moyles, Andy Gillen, Callum Heath & Ben Davidson.

Penicuik Athletic are in blue and white striped shirts, blue shorts and socks and start with a 4-3-3 formation.

Broxburn are in their changed kits, gold and black shirts, black shorts & gold and black socks. They start with a 4-4-2 formation.

Big shout for two Broxburn penalties in the first minute. Gary Brass looks to be fouled as does Marcus Miller, but referee Danaher waves play on twice.

There is a stoppage in play on the 8th minute, Steven Anderson needs treatment after a coming together with Penicuik’s number 7 Ben Wardlaw.

First chance of the match comes for the visitors on 10 minutes.  Ross Nimmo plays in Gary Brass. The Broxburn striker shoots just wide of the right-hand post.

A deep Connor Thomson cross from the left finds Ross Nimmo, whose volley is wide of the left-hand post.

On 16 minutes, a Connor Thomson shot is saved by Penicuik keeper Owen Hayward.

First booking of the match is for Penicuik’s Ben Wardlaw for dissent on the 19th minute.

A long throw by Broxburn’s left back Marcus Miller finds Gary Brass. His initial shot is blocked and on the second attempt his effort deflects wide of the let hand post.

Been all Broxburn so far. On 25 minutes, Gary Brass finds Callum Bremner in space with a header. His shot is blocked and deflects out to Marcus Millar. Millar’s shot is well saved by Penicuik keeper Owen Hayward.

Errol Douglas finds Connor Thomson in space. Thomson cuts it back to Callum Bremner who shoots over the bar.

On 31 minutes, a teasing Connor Thomson cross has no takers and goes out for a goal kick to Penicuik.

A minute later, Marky Munro delivers a great cross. It finds Gary Brass who’s glancing header kisses the bar on the way over.

First Penicuik chance comes on 35 minutes. Ryan Quinn shoots wide of target.

GOAL! Good delivery by Ross Nimmo over on the right finds Errol Douglas, the big strikers has his back to goal and his effort ricochet’s of a Penicuik player, of the left post and into the net.

BROXBURN ATHLETIC 1 (Errol Douglas-37 Minutes)

Long ball forward by Connor Thomson aimed at Ross Nimmo, has just too much on it and the wee man can’t make proper contact with it.

First booking for Broxburn comes on 40 minutes. Lewis Turner is booked by referee Danaher for a foul.

Ben Wardlaw drives forward, skips past two players. He plays a ball through looking for Ryan Quinn. Bob Watt comes and collects, nearly wiping out Greg page in the process.

Shot by Ross Nimmo is over the bar on 44 minutes. Closely followed by a Lewis Turner effort that’s also over the bar.

HALF TIME (1-0 Broxburn)

On 49 minutes, a Ross Nimmo cross from wide right, is way over the bar.

Big chance for Broxburn to double their lead on 52 minutes.  From a long ball, Errol Douglas nods on to Gary Brass. Brass finds Thomson who feeds it wide to Ross Nimmo who is in space. Nimmo’s effort is just wide of the left-hand post.

On 53 minutes, Steven Anderson is booked for a foul on Penicuik’s number 7 Ben Wardlaw.

On 56 minutes, Ross Nimmo drives into the box and goes down under the challenge. Referee Danaher is having none of it and waves play on.

In the last ten minutes, it’s been end to end but there hasn’t been many talking points.

Penicuik have a half chance. Chase Miller finds Liam Gray in a dangerous position, but experienced defender Steven Anderson clears his lines.

Marcus Miller is next in the referee’s book for foul on 69 minutes.

A 74th minute corner by Ben Davidson finds Gary Brass whose header hits the bar.Errol Douglas does well to press Penicuik keeper Owen Hayward and gets a block on his long ball. Penicuik eventually get it cleared.

Gary Brass gives away a foul just outside the box. Up steps Penicuik’s Cammy Forbes whose free kick is saved by Broxburn keeper Bob Watt

Penicuik are throwing everything at an equaliser. Steven Anderson makes a good clearance and is fouled by Penicuik’s Michael Mbewe who Is booked.

Broxburn hold on for a huge 3 points on the road and sets us up for a huge match against Musselburgh next week.
