Match Report- (Bonnyrigg Rose-Away- 28/9/25)

It was Scottish Cup action this weekend, as we travel along the bypass to take on Bonnyrigg Rose at Ferguson Park.

Bonnyrigg Rose are in their traditional red and white hoops with red shorts and socks, while Broxburn are in their changed kits of all navy blue. Broxburn keep the same eleven that defeated Bo’ness United last Saturday, 2-1 at Newton Park. Bonnyrigg Rose make three changes to last weekends 4-3 league loss to Berwick Rangers. In comes Callum Connolly, Max Dowling and Kieran Somerville who replace Josh Laing, Dean Hoskins and Kian Spiers.

It’s the homes side who create the first chance of the match on three minutes. Ex Broxburn striker Cammy Ross picks up a loose ball outside the box and on the half volley, drags his effort just past the right-hand post.

On nine minutes, Broxburn create their first chance of the match. Jamie Docherty’s cross from the left is headed over by Errol Douglas. On twelve minutes, a Jamie Docherty shot is palmed away by Bonnyrigg goalkeeper Ross Connelly. On seventeen minutes, Bonnyrigg midfielder Lee Currie fouls Scott McCrory-Irving about twenty yards from goal, Jamie Docherty’s free kick is over the bar.

On twenty minutes, a Cammy Ross shot is saved by Broxburn keeper Bob Watt.

On twenty-two minutes, we have the first booking of the match. Bonnyrigg captain Neil Martyniuk sees yellow for kicking the ball away.

So close for the home side on twenty-eight minutes. Max Dowling makes a good run down the right and his cross finds Alassan Jones who looks to have opened the scoring but the ball bobbles wide of target for the ex-Broxburn midfielder. On thirty-two minutes, a Bonnyrigg Rose free kick by Lee Currie is just over the bar.

On thirty-seven minutes, Bonnyrigg midfielder Max Dowling is booked for a foul on Kyle Bell.

On thirty-eight minutes, Scott McCrory Irving plays it wide to Jamie Docherty whose shot hits the post for the visitors. Bonnyrigg Rose break up the park, Laurie Devine finds Cammy Ross whose shot deflects for a Bonnyrigg corner. GOAL! The resulting corner taken by Billy King is headed in by Bonnyrigg skipper Neil Martyniuk.

On sixty-one minutes, a shot by Errol Douglas is saved by Bonnyrigg keeper Connelly.

On sixty-nine minutes, we have a major talking point in the game. Lee Currie is booked for a foul on Chris O’ Kane, and as he is booked he barges into the referee. Out comes a second yellow and red and Bonnyrigg are reduced to ten men.

On seventy-six minutes, Greg Page drives forward and has a shot from way out, but his shot is over.

GOAL! Bonnyrigg add a second. Callum Connelly plays a good ball wide right for Laurie Devine. The ex-Linlithgow winger crosses for Cammy Ross who scores into the right corner.

Bonnyrigg Rose 2

Broxburn Athletic 1 (Errol Douglas-82 Minutes)

On eighty-three minutes, Chris O’ Kane is booked for a foul on Bonnyrigg’s Jay McGarva.

Big claims for a Broxburn penalty on eighty-seven minutes. Luke Watkins gets away from Kieran Somerville and his attempted cross looks to come of the arm of Bonnyrigg’s Callum Connolly. But the referee doesn’t give it, and Luke Watkins is booked for his protests.

Bonnyrigg Rose make a change on eighty-seven minutes. Rudi Bryce replaces Laurie Devine.

Broxburn push for an equalizer in the dying minutes. Greg Page has an effort from distance way over the bar. A corner is headed on by Chris O’ Kane to Greg Page whose header is cleared away before the referee blows for full time.

We had a lot of the ball today, but we weren’t as lethal as Bonnyrigg Infront of goal, and it cost us. We now look to bounce back at home to Gretna next week.
