LOCKDOWN UPDATE

With the Lowland League declaring the league over and naming Kelty Hearts as their champion that leaves the East of Scotland,South of Scotland and Highland league left to declare . The South have a meeting on Thursday and are likely to null and void . The Highland league will have to make a decision soon with next to no games having been played this season so far . The East of Scotland said a few weeks ago that we will wait to see what government says at the beginning of next week regarding the contact training return to playing which is currently scheduled for the 17th of May which would give little or no chance of finishing the 50% of league games to call the league under playing conditions. If the government were to bring forward that date considerably the chances of finishing half the season is a possibility  it is frustrating we know but we hope we can declare the league by playing and not by arithmetic .We await the statement next week where there after one way or another a board meeting will be held to digest the statement .

Lockdown update

The league has given until the 6th of April , when the Scottish government will make a an updated statement on restrictions, a board meeting will be held there after to digest the contents of the update  .The 17th of May is earmarked as it stands for contact training for adults to return . This would probably not be enough time to complete the season with players needing realistically three weeks contact training to be ready to play matches after such a long lay off to avoid injuries  . It is hoped this date can be brought forward by a month with dependency on the data at the time . This will give time to fulfil half the fixtures in the leagues allowing the league to be called and a champion and relegation issues sanctioned as per clubs vote to play at least half a season fixtures .It will all depend on the restrictions being eased to allow this .  The start of next season will be as early as possible .Discussions regarding the early July being a possibility . Again this would be dependent on restrictions in place with there not being a great appetite to start a season again without some supporter’s being allowed to enter our grounds . It is all if’s and but’s which will be a lot clearer early April . In the meantime stay safe and we hope to see you all soon . Thanks for continuing to support our fundraisers during this pandemic it is much appreciated to every single one of you during this difficult time

Guess The Birthday Competition Winner

We recently had a ‘guess the birthday’ competition with a hand-knitted Broxburn Athletic doll and it raised £370 for the club.

A huge thank you to John & Lynda Calderwood for organising the fundraiser, and Marilyn Devlin for creating the Brox doll.

The winning date was 3rd February. The winner of the prize of the doll itself and a hamper of goodies was Alison Redmond.

We appreciate the effort of the local community in supporting the club, especially in the past year, and we cannot wait until the day we can be back at Albyn Park together.

Stay safe.

UPDATES

With things improving figures wise on the pandemic it may be too late for any return to playing for our grade in the pyramid of the SFA for this season  . Leagues who have been given permission are finding it difficult to come to a solution to finish the leagues . They have been allowed back to play as long as they do testing once a week and this being a costly exercise it is no wonder clubs are reluctant to return with no chance of recovering financial outlay . or indeed finish their respective leagues should an outbreak happen at a club (ie Dunfermline Ath ) . it is just not cost effective for clubs to even test once a week at our level or even above our level . A government revue of the situation will take place in the week beginning the 14th of March .If the go ahead is given to get back to training and then playing  ,personally I think this will be too late for any chance of a full season being completed . There are contingency plans to play 50% of fixtures or if possible 75% of fixtures which will take a rejig of remaining fixtures . We will update when any news is available .

We have decided to restart the Keydraw as it was suspended back at the very beginning of the lockdown with a jackpot of £1300 . This will be the starting jackpot as we relaunch it on line starting the Easter Weekend 4th April. Standing order forms can be collected at the Argyle Court shops between 1pm and 2pm each Saturday and Sunday prior to the relaunch or we can get a form to you if you message the committee or club .  Cash sales of the Keydraw can be purchased in advance if you so wish paid on a monthly (minimum) advance process . by contacting the committee to be entered in the draw  .

We are having regular zoom meetings to engage with supporter’s young and old who wish to participate .If you would like to be involved in our next zoom get together let us know and when numbers allow we will set up times and dates . This is open to all our supporter’s and sponsors who would like a catch up with management there to help let you know where we are at the moment regarding the club and players .

We hope everybody and your families are staying safe and we will get through this together . Keep safe and we will see you all soon.

FOOTBALL SUSPENSION UPDATE

The SFA along with Government advice and after several meetings with the Associations throughout Scotland have suspended all football below Championship level  until at least midnight on Sunday the 14th of February . This is not a definitive date for restart and will be reassessed  before the 10th of February as to the safety of everyone involved and further instruction will be issued there after  .We have to be patient and realise that lives are at risk .With the vaccine being rolled out over the country and figures beginning to recede ,still very high though , lets hope we are now going to get the better of this virus and we can all return to some form of normality all though pre virus normality is going to take a long time to return .  Please be safe and take care and we will all pull through this together  .

RACE NIGHT

This Saturday evening at approximately 7pm,  we will be holding a race night by way of Facebook . Horses can be bought by contacting any committee member and let us know the name of your horse or horse’s . Each horse is £5 and can be paid by bank transfer to the following account . Friends of Broxburn   account  number 00712558   sort code 83-16-21 . Each race winner will win £20 and everybody will be entered into a draw for a bottle of JIM BEAN .On the night Jim Provan will go live on Facebook and run the races letting everybody know what race their horse is running in prior to the races starting . So join in have some fun and help the club it is much appreciated .

POSTPONEMENT UPDATE

At the moment there is no date to reschedule getting back to training and playing . With the lockdown extended into mid February ,there looks like no sign of any return until before this and we all have to be patient . Getting the figures down and people being safe is the priority . It is a time to look after each other and help each other where we can in any way possible . Even a call to someone you may not have been in touch with for a while can lift the spirits during this time . We are here if you need us and don’t be afraid to chat . Hopefully soon this will abate and some form of normality can be had by all
