Penicuik Athletic v Broxburn Athletic

Attendance 195

We travelled to Penicuik after a fortnight off allowing players carrying injuries a chance to recover . Broxburn made two changes from the starting line up against Jeanfield Swifts  with Jack Sayers and Rocco Hickey Fugaccia dropping to the bench with Andrew Gillen and Mark McConnell making the starting line up .Broxburn created the first opportunity after 7 minutes when a great ball was played through and with Douglas about to strike the home defence cleared the danger . Liam Gray saw an effort go just wide on 12 minutes . Andrew Gillen made a good run down the right to the bye line but his cross across the six yard box was turned behind for a corner on 16 minutes  The home side had a great chance on 16 minutes when Cammy Fraser got free on the right but his cross into the box was turned behind for a corner by Calum Bremner . Two minutes later a good free kick into the home box saw Errol Douglas head just wide of the target . Half way through the half Penicuik should have taken the lead but Cammy Fraser clear in on goal was thwarted by a great save from Josh Blair in the visitors goal . A minute later Penicuik had to make a forced change with Greg Page having to go off after an earlier knock and was replaced by Gregor Lamb .Broxburn were the better side and created another chance when Liam Gray put a great through ball for Douglas but Ryan Baptie cleared the danger for a throw in .

The visitors got the deserved lead when good play down the right with  Andrew Gillen putting a ball across at the second attempt into the box touched on by Brass  for ERROL DOUGLAS to have the easiest of chances to score from 5 yards out after 27 minutes .A  chance around the half hour mark for the visitors through Calum Heath who’s effort went  over the bar . Broxburn were awarded a throw in deep in their own half when the assistant ordered Jordan Orru to get a graze on his knee cleaned before coming back on to the pitch and took two inspections of the scratch to satisfy the official . The hosts almost equalised when a good ball into the box was headed narrowly past the target by Lewis Turner . Things were starting to boil over when a clumsy challenge by Douglas saw a bit of a melee which ended up with Errol Douglas and Penicuik’s Gregor lamb both receiving a yellow card . Lewis Turner followed them into the referee’s book when he cynically brought down Gary Brass from behind as he ran forward from his own half .

The second half started well for the host’s as the tried to get back on level terms  and on 53 minutes a good free kick into the box was well saved before Mathew Combe shot past the post unchallenged when all thought the net was going to bulge . Cammy Fraser had an attempt go wide on 56 minutes as the pressure was ramped up on the visitors goal . Four minutes later the game was level when a good move down the right saw GREGOR LAMB cut inside before shooting at goal and with Blair having it covered the ball took a bobble before reaching him and it bounced agonizingly over the keeper into the net . A couple of minutes later the visitors should have taken the lead when a ball into the box was met by Russell Cairns who put his effort over with the goal gaping .  There was not much more goal mouth action with Penicuik having attempts over the bar from Russell Cairns on 70 minutes and Ben McManus  on 89 minutes . A draw probably a fair result with both sides having a half each . We now have our last home game next week against Haddington Athletic  with a 2-30pm kick off
