Clydebank v Broxburn Athletic

Clydebank 4–0 Broxburn Athletic Lowland League – Holm Park

By Stuart McLellan

Broxburn Athletic suffered a difficult afternoon at Holm Park as a clinical Clydebank side ran out 4–0 winners.

Clydebank lined up in their traditional white and red kit, while Broxburn turned out in an all-navy change strip.

The visitors made one change from last week’s 3–3 draw with Cumbernauld Colts, with Jon Robertson returning in place of Alasdair Shrive. The hosts also made a single change from their midweek win over Cowdenbeath, as David Syme replaced Matt Niven.

Fast Start from the Hosts Clydebank made their intentions clear early on. After just three minutes, Owen Wardell used his pace to get beyond Gallagher Lennon, with Greg Page forced to clear his dangerous low cross behind. From the resulting pressure, the hosts took the lead. A long throw from Neil McLaughlin caused problems in the box and, after the ball was only half-cleared, Dean Cairns’ driven effort struck the bar. Oisin McHugh reacted quickest to fire home the rebound into the right corner. Broxburn looked to respond, but Clydebank continued to threaten. Wardell forced a low save from Jack McConnell on 19 minutes, while at the other end Marcus Lavery produced a bright moment on 28 minutes, driving down the left before his cross led to a corner. From Kane Thomson’s delivery, Errol Douglas’ header was well saved by Owen Scott. Further chances fell to the hosts before the break, with Chris McGowan heading over from a corner, McLaughlin testing McConnell, and Wardell narrowly missing the target with a curling effort.

Half-Time: Clydebank 1–0 Broxburn Athletic

Second-Half Punishment Broxburn started the second half with intent, but it was Clydebank who struck again on 56 minutes. After a turnover high up the pitch, Wardell led the counter before Oisin McHugh was brought down in the box by Greg Page. Nicky Low stepped up and calmly converted the penalty to double the advantage. Just four minutes later, the hosts extended their lead further. A slip in midfield allowed Clydebank to break, and Keir Samson showed composure to control and finish neatly into the bottom corner. Broxburn made changes shortly after, introducing Alasdair Shrive and Matty McDonald, but Clydebank continued to dominate. The fourth goal on 67 minutes was the standout moment of the match — a superb team move. McLaughlin’s excellent first touch set the move in motion, with quick, intelligent passing involving Low, Samson, and Cairns. The move ended with Samson delivering for Owen Wardell to tap home. A goal of real quality that underlined Clydebank’s performance.

Closing Stages Wardell continued to be a threat, going close again on 72 minutes, before being substituted shortly after. Clydebank rotated their squad in the closing stages, while Broxburn pushed for a response. Despite the scoreline, there were moments of encouragement for Broxburn, particularly in possession, but missed opportunities proved costly against a sharp and efficient Clydebank side.

Full-Time: Clydebank 4–0 Broxburn Athletic
