Broxburn Athletic vs Sauchie

We returned home to the Albyn for the first time in 2024, with a home fixture against Stirlingshire based Sauchie Juniors in league action.

Sauchie come into this fixture in 6^th place in the East of Scotland Premier Division.  They haven’t been in competitive action since a Home 3-2 victory over Luncarty, on Saturday December the 23^rd in the league.

Broxburn make 1 change to the team that defeated Crossgates 4-1 last weekend. Ross Nimmo replaces injured captain Nick Locke. There are also places on the bench for Jordan Wright who has been out long term with an injury & new boy Andrew Black.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional kits. Red and White shirts, White shorts, and red and white socks. They start with a 4-4-2 formation.

Sauchie are in all blue and are start with a 4-3-3 shape.

Very windy conditions at the Albyn as both teams enter the pitch.

Sauchie are first to threaten on 3 minutes Daniel Smith’s shot is wide of the right-hand post.

Big chance for Broxburn to take an early lead 5 minutes in. Great control by our top scorer Errol Douglas who brings down a long ball to feet. The striker’s effort is just wide of the right-hand post.

Sauchie’s Lucas Williamson delivers a teasing cross into the box that is well cleared by Broxburn centre back Greg Page.

Sauchie threatened again on 17 minutes, Jack Docherty’s shot is right at keeper Bob Watt.

GOAL! Sauchie take the lead. Good build up play from the visitors. It’s worked to Conor Willaghan who scores a good finish.

Ross Nimmo takes on Sauchie’s Sam Muir on the right wing. His cross/shot is way over the bar.

Sam Muir is booked on 23 minutes for a foul on Ross Nimmo right on the edge of the box. Up steps Greg Page but his free kick is right at  Sauchie keeper Sean Robertson.

Cross by Calum Heath is half cleared by Sauchie. It comes out to Callum Bremner whose shot is well blocked by the Sauchie defender Jack Thomson.

Good play by Broxburn Athletic. Kieran Moyles finds Ross Nimmo wide right. Nimmo plays a great ball through to the overlapping Turner. Turner delivers a great cross for Calum Heath in plenty of space. But Heath’s effort is over the bar.

GOAL! A deserved Broxburn equaliser. Greg Page heads a ball over from the right, its half cleared by Sauchie as far as Gary Brass who’s deflected shot finds the back of the net.

Jack Docherty has a header over the bar for Sauchie in 39 minutes.

Euan McGill delivers a good cross over on the left for Errol Douglas. But the striker heads over the bar.

Errol Douglas is next in referee Struthers book for a foul on 43 minutes.

HALF TIME (1-1)

Sam Muir is in an advanced position for Sauchie. Greg Page makes a great tackle to stop the attack.

On 53 minutes, Jack Thomson is booked for a foul on Errol Douglas. The resulting free kick comes to nothing for the hosts.

A through ball from Callum Bremner results in a foot race between Ross Nimmo & Sauchie keeper Sean Robertson. Robertson gets there first and clears.

Penalty Sauchie for a Lewis Turner handball in the box on 67 minutes. From my viewpoint it didn’t look like a penalty. Sauchie’s Daniel Smith fires over the bar and it remains 1-1.
