ALEX JACK CUP FINAL

Luncarty came out tops in an excellent final with both clubs having chances to win the trophy in front of a near 500 crowd. The game ebbed and flowed with both sides scoring early doors before Luncarty were awarded a penalty before half time to take a half time lead 2-1. The second half was much the same as the first, but it was Luncarty who extended their lead just after the hour mark. But Thornton hit back almost immediately and gave themselves a chance. Unfortunately for the Fifers the Team from the furthest point north in the East of Scotland League held on for victory and can look forward to a play-off with the South of Scotland and West of Scotland Qualifying cups to see who wins the Cup Winners trophy but more importantly will qualify for the Scottish F.A. Cup next season. Just one route for non-licenced clubs. Inspiration can be taken from the likes of Drumchapel who yesterday beat FC Edinburgh   to qualify for the fourth round and a chance in Monday’s draw to play a SPL side.
