Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits. Red and white strips, white shorts and red and white socks. East Stirlingshire are in all sky-blue kits. Broxburn Athletic make one change to the team that lost 2-1 away to Gala Fairydean last Wednesday. In comes Nick Locke who replaces Andy Rodden. East Stirlingshire make four changes to last Tuesday’s 1-0 defeat away to Tranent. In comes Lamont, McRoberts, McFadden & MacDonald who replace Coutts, Docherty, Dowie and Hobbs.

GOAL! East Stirlingshire take the lead. A corner by Ben Lamont is headed down by Ynyr Liddell in the path of Lucas McRoberts whose strike finds the bottom right corner.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits. Red and white strips, white shorts and red and white socks. University of Stirling are in all dark green kits. Broxburn Athletic make two changes to last weekends 3-3 draw with Hearts B. In comes Kyle Bell and Andy Rodden, who replace Greg Page and Nick Locke in the starting eleven. University of Stirling start the same eleven who drew 1-1 with Bo’ness United at Forthbank last Saturday.

Broxburn start the brighter of the two sides.

A deep Marcus Lavery cross from the left is caught by Uni keeper Buttigieg on five minutes.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. A long kick forward by Mikey Andrews sees Uni keeper Adam Buttigieg come of his line, the ball bounces over him and gifts Jamie Docherty a tap in from close range. Club Chaplin Andrew MacPherson confirmed that it was the first goalkeeper assist for us since Josh Blair assisting Greg Binnie against Dundonald Bluebell in a 5-5 draw at Albyn Park back in 2022.

Up the other end, we all had our hearts in our mouth. As like the Broxburn goal, a long ball forward from right back Alex Jeanes bounces over the outrushing Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews but fortunately goes wide of the left-hand post. On ten minutes, a free kick by Euan Walker is half cleared by Sam Gormley, only as far as Finlay Moffet, whose whipped cross from the right is headed wide by Calan Ledingham.

GOAL! What a cracker by Scott McRory Irving. Chris O’Kane heads down to McRory Irving. He drives forward and from twenty-five yards, finds the right top corner with a great hit.

On thirty minutes, Broxburn’s Sam Gormley is booked for a foul on Uni’s Lewis Blaine.

On thirty-three minutes, there are huge shouts for a Broxburn penalty. From an Alex Jeanes back pass, Uni keeper Adam Buttigieg takes a touch, but Jamie Docherty looks to get to the ball before Buttigieg and looks to foul the Broxburn winger. But referee MacDonald waves play on.

On thirty-five minutes, a cross by Andy Rodden finds Errol Douglas, whose back heel hits the side netting.

Next in the book is University of Stirling’s Duncan Laird for a foul on Scott McRory Irving on thirty-six minutes.

On thirty-seven minutes, Broxburn have a penalty. Chris O’ Kane is wiped out by Calan Ledingham, and the referee has no hesitation and points to the spot. GOAL! Up steps Errol Douglas who slots into the right corner.

University of Stirling’s Sam Martin is booked for a foul on ninety minutes.

On ninety-one minutes, a dangerous cross by Robbie McGale has no takers and rolls out for a goal kick. On ninety-three minutes, another good cross by McGale finds Matty McDonald whose header is saved by Adam Buttigieg.

A huge three points for the club. We could have scored a few more today, we move on to Gala Fairydean on Wednesday in the first game under new gaffer John Miller who was named as I was writing this report.

Broxburn Athletic are in their changed kits. Black and gold strips, shorts and socks, while Heart of Midlothian B are in white shirts with maroon shorts and white socks. Broxburn Athletic make one change to the team that defeated Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill 3-2 last Tuesday. Matty McDonald replaces Kyle Bell. Hearts B make eight changes from their 2-0 loss to Gala Fairydean at Ainslie Park last Tuesday night. In comes, Jamie McDonald, Alfie Osbourne, Matthew Gilles, Euan Glasgow, Joshua Radcliffe, Taylor Hogarth and Gus Stevenson. They replace Lyndon Tas, Gregor Crookston, Lucas Smith, Mackenzie Ross, Alfie Wilson, Callen Robb and Henry James in the starting eleven.

Broxburn create the first chance of the match on two minutes. A long ball forward by Greg Page, is misread by Hearts left back Josh Radcliffe, leaving Nick Locke with just the keeper to beat. But Locke put’s his effort wide of the right-hand post.

On seven minutes, Hearts B create their chance. Dom Plank receives the ball high up the park on the left from Connor Dow. He drives forward and his deflected shot is easily collected by Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews.

GOAL! Hearts B take the lead. Kai Smutek sends it long down the right. Mikey Andrews comes of his line and Greg Page doesn’t deal with the ball forward. Connor Dow nips in between them and stabs it home for the opening goal.

Another chance for Broxburn on sixteen minutes, a deep cross by Marcus Lavery on the left is punched clear by Jamie McDonald. The loose ball is picked up by Scott McRory Irving who shoots narrowly past the right-hand post from outside the box.

GOAL! Broxburn equalize! Euan Glasgow fouls Jamie Docherty just outside the box on the left.  The free kick, taken by Jamei Docherty creates a scramble in the box, which Hearts only get half clear as far as Errol Douglas whose shot finds the bottom right corner.

On thirty-nine minutes, a shot from distance by Nick Locke is tipped over the bar by veteran Hearts keeper Jamie McDonald. Locke comes close again on forty-two minutes. Volleying just wide of the right-hand post from a long Sam Gormley ball forward.

Hearts B defender Alfie Osbourne is booked for dissent on forty-two minutes.

Big shouts for a Broxburn penalty on forty-three minutes as Errol Douglas is pulled by Josh Radcliffe as he is about to shoot in the box. No penalty given and we play on.

Next in the book is Hearts number 13 Josh Radcliffe for a late tackle on Errol Douglas on the edge of the box. Andy Rodden takes the resulting free kick that is pushed away by Hearts keeper Jamie McDonald.

GOAL! Broxburn are level. A deep cross from the left by Marcus Lavery bounces in the box before Jon Robertson heads high into the net.

A huge moment of controversy on fifty-five minutes. Andy Rodden is fouled, but Broxburn play on. Scott McRory Irving’s cross finds Errol Douglas who with a great finish finds the net. But just as he about to make contact with  the ball, referee Stirling blows his whistle for the foul. Fair play to the referee who was first to put his hand up today he got it wrong. Doesn’t happen often. Very frustrating, nonetheless. Andy Rodden takes the resulting free kick from the right has too much on the cross.

On sixty-two minutes, Hearts B make two changes. Henry James and Bobby McLuckie replace Taylor Hogarth & Josh Radcliffe.

On sixty-three minutes, Chris O’ Kane nods on a ball forward that looks to be bread and butter for Hearts skipper Kai Smutek, but he doesn’t put enough on the header back and Jamie Docherty gets to the ball, he spots Jamie McDonald of his line and attempts the lob the Hearts keeper, but McDonald manages to catch it.

On sixty-seven minutes, Chris O’ Kane was booked for a foul on Henry James.

Felt we deserved all three points today. The goal that was brought back puts us 4-2 up at that point and feel that is game over. But we are now undefeated in three for the Badgers and climb up to eight position in the Lowland League.

Broxburn make six changes from Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat by Caledonian Braves. In come the returning Greg Page and Errol Douglas who are joined by Shaun Brown, Scott McRory Irving and Louis Kennedy. There is also a debut for summer signing Robbie McGale at right back. They replace, Chris O’ Kane, Robbie Hamilton, Jamie Docherty, Matthew McDonald, Luke Morris and Ewan MacPherson in the Broxburn starting eleven. Visitors Berwick rangers make two changes from their midweek draw away at Tranent. In come Callum Antell and Liam Buchanan who replace Liam Campbell and Taylor Hendry.

Berwick Rangers have the ball in the net on five minutes. Kyle Somers is played in by Struan Mair, but he is offside.

In eleven minutes, Berwick Rangers work a short corner, taken by Scott McKenzie who plays a one-two with Kyle Somers before whipping it in, but Sam Gormley does well to get their first to concede another corner.

On fifteen minutes, Shaun Brown picks up wide left and floats a powerful cross over that evades everyone.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. Robbie McGale’s dangerous cross from the right is glanced into his own net by Jamie Pyper.

 On eighteen minutes, Berwick Rangers keeper Callum Antell comes out his box and controls the ball with his hand. Broxburn coach Lewis Turner is booked for his protests.

On twenty-one minutes, Marcus Lavery’s shot is over the bar from the right.

On twenty-five minutes, Marcus Lavery plays a good one two with Shaun Brown, Alfie Robinson does enough and puts in a good, hard challenge on the advanced Lavery. Robbie McGale takes the resulting corner, and it is a good delivery, but Errol Douglas just can’t make good contact on the ball. A minute later, Shaun Brown is fed in by Louis Kennedy, but his cross has too much on it.

On twenty-nine minutes, Shaun Brown is fed in by Scott McRory- Irving. Brown takes on Callum Pitt before a cracking turn on the ball. He gets his shot away, but it’s saved by the feet of Berwick keeper Calum Antell. On thirty-two minutes, Louis Kennedy plays a low cross over the box that finds Errol Douglas who scores from close range. But the linesman quickly put’s his flag up and its ruled offside. On forty-four minutes, Shaun Brown lays it off for Scott McRory Irving whose shot is wide of the left-hand post.

 On forty-eight minutes, Shaun Brown finds Scott McRory Irving with a long ball into the box from the left, McRory Irving catches the ball on the volley and his effort is narrowly wide.

On fifty-one minutes, Scott MacKenzie floats a ball into the box, which is missed by Sam Gormley, leaving Liam Buchanan through on goal. Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews makes a good save to deny him, and the loose ball is cleared by Gormley for a Berwick corner. The resulting corner taken by Kyle Somers is spilled by Mikey Andrews. There is a scramble in the box and eventually its half cleared of the line by Errol Douglas. Berwick defender Alfie Robinson has a shot that smacks the post. It deflects out too Kyle Somers whose cross goes wide.

On fifty-four minutes, Mikey Andrews is punished for taking too much time with the ball in his hands and referee Donoghue gifts Berwick Rangers a corner kick.

On Tuesday evening, we hosted Caledonian Braves in our first home league game of the season.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits, red and white strips, white shorts and red and white socks. Caledonian Braves are in all blue kits. Broxburn Athletic make two changes to their opening day 3-2 defeat to Celtic B last Friday. In comes Luke Morris and Kyle Bell who replace Andy Rodden and Scott McRory Irving. Caledonian Braves make two changes from their opening day 2-0 victory over University of Stirling on Saturday. In comes Lennon Walker & Calum Biggar, who replace Dom McMahon and Regan McLaren.

Unfortunately, Broxburn’s Robbie Hamilton picks up an early injury and can’t continue. Hopefully not too serious for Hammy and we see him back soon for the Badgers.

 On thirteen minutes, a long ball forward by Jon Guthrie finds Ross McNeil who beats the offside trap and runs into the box from the right with just the keeper to beat, but Broxburn goalie Mikey Andrews makes himself big and makes an important block for the hosts.

On fourteen minutes, a long ball forward from Caley Braves keeper Bernard White finds Ross McNeil who is fouled by Marcus Lavery and Braves have a free kick in a dangerous position. Up steps Cammy Breadner whose effort is over the bar for the visitors.

Great team move by Broxburn on eighteen minutes, with most players getting a touch. It ends with a cross over from Jon Robertson that has too much on it and rolls out for a goal kick.

Chance for Caledonian Braves on twenty-one minutes. Jon Guthrie feeds in Ross McNeil who drags his shot wide of the left-hand post. On thirty-three minutes, Caley Braves threaten again. McNeil holds up play before playing in the advanced Ross McNeil whose low cross is cleared by Broxburn defender Sam Gormley.

On thirty-seven minutes, a Kyle Bell shot from distance is saved by Braves keeper White. On forty minutes, a corner is nodded on by Chris O’ Kane in the direction of Broxburn lone striker Ewan MacPherson. With his back to goal, he attempts an overhead kick but doesn’t make any contact.

HALF TIME (0-0)

 GOAL! Caledonian Braves have the lead. Slack play by Broxburn and Braves fly forward quickly. It’s fed into Connor McLaren who slots into the left corner of the net.

 On fifty-nine minutes, Lennon Walker finds Ross McNeil with a clear shot at goal, but Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews makes an important block with his feet.

 Double Caledonian Braves change on sixty-four minutes. On comes Ryan Murray and Regan McLaren who replace Connor McLaren and Lennon Walker.

From distance, Broxburn Athletic midfielder Scott McRory Irving blast his shot over the bar.

On sixty nine minutes, a cross from the right finds Ross McNeil, whose header is pushed over by Mikey Andrews.

Penalty Caley Braves! Ross McNeil beats the offside trap, and Mikey Andrews comes of his line and fouls the Braves striker. GOAL! Up steps McNeil, who sends Andrews the wrong way to double Braves lead.

On seventy-nine minutes, a ball forward finds Ross McNeil who beats Jack Thomson to the ball and his effort is narrowly wide of the right-hand post. Another chance for the visitors on eighty-four minutes, Greig Stewart crosses for Zac Butterworth whose shot is over.

On ninety minutes, Louis Kennedy finds Shaun Brown whose shot lacks power and is easily collected by Braves keeper White.

Frustrating night for Broxburn who has a lot of the ball but lacked penetration. With a few big players due back on Saturday, we look to bounce back and get points on the board.

We return to Albyn Park on Tuesday night for the visit of West of Scotland Premier League side Drumchapel United.

Broxburn are intheir traditional kits, red and white strips, white strips and red and white socks. Visitors Drumchapel United are in black and white strips with black shorts and socks. Broxburn make three changes to last weeks 4-1 win over Stirling Albion. In comes new summer signing Mikey Andrews in goals, Scott McRory Irving & Andy Rodden. They replace Bob Watt, Marcus Lavery & Chris O’ Kane.

Broxburn start the game the better of the two sides. With only a minute on the clock, Andy Rodden delivers a decent ball into the box, that finds Scott McRory Irving wide right, who is ruled offside before he shoots over the bar. On eight minutes, Greg Page plays a long ball from centre back to the feet of Jamie Docherty, the new Broxburn signing turns and his shot deflects for a corner to the hosts. The resulting corner taken by Jamie Docherty is cleared by Drumchapel.

On thirteen minutes, new Drumchapel signing Carlo Monti’s deep cross from the right is easily collected by Broxburn goalkeeper Michael Andrews. With hardly any Drumchapel players attacking the ball.

On seventeen minutes, Jamie Docherty finds Shaun Brown who is fouled on the edge of the box. GOAL! Broxburn take the lead! From the resulting free kick, Andy Rodden’s ball into the box is converted into the back of the net from close range by Jon Robertson

 On twenty-four minutes, Drumchapel have another half chance. A cross from the right by Carlo Monti finds David Hopkirk wide right. He uses his strength before getting his cross away in the direction of Daniel Finnigan, but Broxburn defender Jack Thomson gets a tow in to divert it for a corner. Carlo Monti’s resulting corner finds Martin McNiff whose header hits the bar and Broxburn get the rebound clear. On twe

 

nty-eight minutes, Drumchapel create their first big two chances of the match in quick succession. Firstly, Monti plays in Kieran Moore who beats the offside trap, with just Broxburn keeper to beat, but Andrews does well to come out and save with his feet. The rebound is only cleared as far as Carlo Monti who finds Daniel Finnigan, whose shot is tipped round the post by Andrews for another corner.

On thirty-one minutes, a Drumchapel free kick by Carlo Monti is powerful and awkward from distance, but again keeper Andrews makes a good save.

GOAL! A well worked goal makes it 2-0 to the hosts. Scott McRory Irving finds Sam Gormley wide right, he drives forward before picking out Jamie Docherty with a good pass. Docherty makes no mistake and drills his effort low into the net, leaving Drumchapel keeper Matthew Kerr no chance.

First in the book is Broxburn’s Jon Robertson whose late challenge on Drumchapel’s Kieran Moore on thirty-nine minutes.

On forty-one minutes, a shot from distance by Drumchapel’s Kieran Moore is saved by Michael Andrews. A minute later, Drumchapel’s Lewis McTaggart does well to win the ball high up the park and lay it off for Daniel Finnigan whose shot is pushed wide by Broxburn keeper Michael Andrews. Andrews makes another great block from David Hopkirk on forty-three minutes.

HALF TIME (2-1 Broxburn)

 On forty-six minutes, a deep corner by Andy Rodden from the right finds Centre back Greg Page whose shot hits the side netting. A minute later, a cross by Broxburn’s Jamie Docherty from the right is just behind the onrushing Ewan MacPherson. On fifty four minutes, Ewan MacPherson plays in Shaun Brown, whose shot is blocked by Drumchapel defender Connor Greene with a sliding tackle.

Broxburn make four changes on fifty-nine minutes. On comes, Errol Douglas, Louis Kennedy, Luke Morris and Marcus Lavery who replace Andy Rodden, Shaun Brown, Ewan MacPherson & Jack Thomson. On sixty-four minutes, Chris O’ Kane replaces Kyle Bell.

On sixty-five minutes, Drumchapel make two changes. On comes Argyll McCoist & Ruaridh McIntyre replace Lewis McTaggart & Martin McNiff.

On sixty-six minutes, a low cross from the left by David Hopkirk finds Argyll McCoist who puts his effort over the bar.

GOAL! Broxburn have a third goal! Scott McRory Irving picks out Marcus Lavery in space on the left. His deep cross finds Chris O’ Kane unmarked, and his volley finds the left corner from close range.

 Broxburn make another change on seventy-two minutes. Matty McDonald replaces Jon Robertson. On seventy-seven minutes, a long ball is headered on by Errol Douglas in the direction of Louis Kennedy, but Drumchapel goalkeeper Matthew Kerr gets to the ball first.

GOAL! Drumchapel pull one back on eighty-nine minutes. Kieran Moore feeds in David Hopkirk who slots passed Mikey Andrews to make the scoreline 3-2.

More minutes in legs for the boys and a good performance against a good well drilled Drumchapel side. We wish them all the best for their West of Scotland Premier Division campaign.
