Match Report- (Whitburn-20/12/25)

This week, we took on local rivals Whitburn in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup Quarter Final at Albyn Park.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits, red and white strips, white shorts with red and white socks. Visitors Whitburn are in their traditional Claret and amber shirts with claret shorts and socks.

Broxburn make three changes to the team that defeated Berwick Rangers 5-0 at Shielfield Park last Saturday.  In comes, Bob Watt, Jon Robertson and Jamie Docherty, who replace Matty McDonald, Alisdair Shrive and Jack McConnell. Whitburn make four changes to last weeks 5-4 win over Camelon at Central Park. In comes Frankie Aitchison, Darren Liddell, Andrew Thomson and Paul Gillespie. They replace Ethan Kerr, Andy Black, Harry McMartin & Sam Nicolson in the starting eleven.

After Broxburn dominated early possession, on six minutes, Whitburn get the ball up the park to Ross Crawford, but Marcus Lavery gets his foot in and the ball  flies towards his own goal, with Bob Watt making a good save, with the ball falling to Aiden McAvoy whose shot is blocked by Sam Gormley.

On fourteen minutes, Broxburn should be ahead. A cross from Robbie McGale finds Errol Douglas who puts his effort over the bar from close range.

Whitburn come close on twenty minutes, Darren Liddell nods it on for Ross Crawford, whose shot is well saved by Bob Watt, who comes of his line and makes a good block.

On twenty-five minutes, a long ball forward by Greg Page finds Jamie Docherty, who finds Chris O’ Kane in space. Kano’s shot is well saved by Whitburn keeper Danny Farrell, who pushed it wide for a corner. GOAL! Broxburn open the scoring on twenty six minutes,  a corner from the left by Robbie McGale is headed home by Jon Robertson.

 On twenty-nine minutes, Jamie Docherty finds Kyle Bell in space, whose low powerful shot is well saved by Whitburn keeper Danny Farrell.

GOAL! Broxburn have a second on thirty one minutes. Robbie McGale does well to get to the byline. He cuts it back for Errol Douglas who picks out Chris O’ Kane. Kano scores high into the net.

A shot by Robbie McGale from distance is over the bar on thirty-three minutes. On thirty-five minutes, Jamie Docherty’s dangerous cross from the left is cleared as far as Chris O’ Kane whose effort is over the bar.

On thirty-seven minutes, Chris O’ Kane is booked for a foul on Lennon Watson.

Next in the referee’s book is Whitburn’s Alex Webb for a foul on Kyle Bell on forty-two minutes.

A minute later, a deep cross by Greg Page finds Errol Douglas whose header hit the bar.

HALF TIME (2-0 Broxburn Athletic)

On forty-eight minutes, Aiden McAvoy’s shot is palmed away by Broxburn keeper Bob Watt, with Darren Liddell scoring the rebound but his goal was quickly chopped off for offside. Looked onside at the time and the VEO confirmed it was onside! On fifty-two minutes, Whitburn’s Andy Thomson makes a great sliding tackle on Robbie McGale, putting Aiden McAvoy through on goal. His shot is well saved by Bob Watt and on the rebound McAvoy goes down under a Greg Page challenge, but referee Spalony waves play on.

Up the other end a minute later, an Errol Douglas shot is saved by the feet of Whitburn keeper Danny Farrell. On fifty-five minutes, Errol Douglas uses his strength to get away from Whitburn centre back Zac McGoldrick and is through on goal with just keeper Farrell to beat, but his effort kisses the outside of the post and goes wide.

Whitburn make the first change of the day on fifty-five minutes. Ethan Kerr replaced Lennon Watson.

Good one touch football by the visitors on fifty-nine minutes. Liddell does well to create space, playing a good one-two with Aiden McAvoy, whose shot is pushed wide by Bob Watt for a corner. On sixty-one minutes, a long Whitburn free kick from the right finds Zac McGoldrick whose header rattles the bar.  On sixty-four minutes, Kyle Bell is fouled and stays down. Unfortunately, Kyle can’t continue. He has been vital for the club since joining and let’s hope it isn’t as serious as it looked, Whitburn’s Callum Bremner is booked for the foul.

Another double change on seventy nine minutes for Broxburn. Luke Watkins and Nick Locke replace Robbie Hamilton and Jamie Docherty.

On eighty-nine minutes, Scott McRory Irving’s shot is over the bar for Broxburn. Deep into injury time, a Nick Locke shot is wide of target.

Broxburn Athletic progress into the semi final of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup. Good first half, not the best second. All the best to Whitburn for the rest of the season.

It was back to Lowland League action on Tuesday as we welcomed Albion Rovers to Albyn Park.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional kits of red and white strips, white shorts and red and white socks. Visitors Albion Rovers are in their changed purple kits.

Broxburn Athletic make three changes to the team that defeated St Andrews 7-3 in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup on Saturday the 29th of November. In comes Jack McConnell, Kyle Bell & Greg Page who replace Bob Watt, Ali Shrive & Scott McRory-Irving. Visitors Albion Rovers make three changes from their last league fixture against Celtic B, back on Saturday the 8th of November. In comes Daniel Hunter, Willie Thomson & Devan McCall. They replace Ruari Ellis, Euan Bowie & Adam McMillan.

The match survived the high winds, and we got underway at Albyn Park.

In the first minute, Kyle Bell fouls Albion striker Grant Marchant. Marchant takes the resulting free kick, looking for use the wind as an advantage, but his effort is way over the bar from about 45 yards out. On four minutes, a shot by Rovers number seven William Thomson is blocked by Jon Robertson for a corner to the visitors. The resulting corner is half cleared by Broxburn, but only as far as Grant Marchant whose shot from the left is wide of target. Slack play by Broxburn on seven minutes, with Greg Page losing the ball to Grant Merchant, whose shot was saved by Jack McConnell.

Broxburn Athletic create their first chance of the match on twelve minutes. Robbie Hamilton gets freedom down the right, and his deflected shot drops into the direction of Errol Douglas, whose shot is saved by Albion keeper Alfie Halliwell.

Albion Rovers defender Devan McCall finds Grant Marchant on the right and his shot is miles over the bar on twenty-one minutes.

Kyle Bell flies down the left flank, he plays a ball inside to Jamie Docherty who drags his shot wide of the right-hand post on twenty-two minutes.

On twenty-three minutes, Albion Rovers skipper Alan Reid plays a chipped ball forward, but the wind takes it beyond striker Tony Garth and its out for a Broxburn goal kick.

Jamie Docherty counters Albion down the left, his dangerous cross is cut out by Albion skipper Alan Reid for a Broxburn corner, which comes to nothing.

A shot by Rovers number eight Daniel Hunter deflects wide of target. The resulting corner is taken by Grant Merchant, the ball is half cleared back to him, his shot from an angle hits the side netting. On forty-one minutes, Albion Rovers create the biggest chance of the match so far. Daniel Hunter’s shot is touched on to the bar by Broxburn Athletic keeper Jack McConnell, Unbelievable save!!

On forty-eight minutes, a Kyle Bell effort is just wide of target. Jamie Docherty hits the outside of the post two minutes later, with an effort outside the box. On fifty-two minutes, Jamie Docherty shoots way over from the left. Errol Douglas has the ball in the net but its ruled offside on fifty-six minutes.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. Jamie Docherty is fouled by Craig Neeson on the edge of the box. Docherty takes the resulting free kick and his low shot avaids everyone and finds the bottom right corner.

We returned to Albyn Park on Saturday, where we host St Andrews United in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup Third Round.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits. Red and White shirts, white shorts and red and white socks. Visitors St Andrews are in all blue kits.

Broxburn Athletic make four changes to the side that lost 2-0 to Bonnyrigg Rose last Saturday in the Lowland League. In comes Bob Watt, Robbie Hamilton & Errol Douglas, who replace Jack McConnell, Chris O’ Kane and Greg Page. St Andrews United make two changes from last week’s 3-2 away win against Bo’ness Athletic. In comes David Maskrey & Lewis Craik who replaces Luke Murray & Cammy Graham.

St Andrews United created the first chance of the match on five minutes. Lewis Milne’s throw-in down the right flank finds Greig Spence who gets away from Jon Robertson and his cross finds Alex McReadie who skies his shot over the bar.

On seven minutes, Broxburn create their first half chance of the game. Ali Shrive plays a ball forward to Jamie Docherty whose eventual shot is over the bar.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. A Robbie McGale corner on the right finds Ali Shrive who scores at the front post. It took a while for the spectators to realise it was a goal, as it hit the bar behind the goal and out, no net movement at all. 1-0 Broxburn!

Match Report- (Clydebank- 8/11/25)

We returned to Albyn Park on Saturday for the visit of league leaders Clydebank FC, in Lowland League action. 

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits, Red and White shirts, White shorts and Red and White socks. Visitors Clydebank are in their away kit of Black and Red.

Broxburn make two changes to last Saturday’s away 1-0 defeat to Cumbernauld Colts. In comes Alasdair Shrive and Marcus Lavery who replace Kyle Bell and Errol Douglas.

Clydebank make one change to the team that defeated Celtic B 4-0 last Saturday at Holm Park. In comes Nicky Little who replaces Rocco Hickey Fugaccia.

After a well observed minute silence for all in attendance for remembrance weekend, we are underway at Albyn Park.

The visitors have dominated the early stages, enjoying lots of possession.

On the seventh minute, Clydebank’s Chris McGowan is booked for a foul on Jamie Docherty.

On twelve minutes, Broxburn threaten for the first time. Jamie Docherty drives into the box but his shot has no power and is easily collected by Bankies keeper Owen Scott. On seventeen minutes, a deep cross from the left by Gallagher Lennon is well defended by Clydebank’s Dean Cairns who cooly heads back for keeper Scott to collect.

The visitors created their best chance of the match so far on eighteen minutes. Nicky Little is through on goal and Jack McConnell makes an excellent block.

Next in the referee’s book is Clydebank’s Adam Hodge is booked for fouling Marcus Lavery on twenty-one minutes. On twenty-three minutes, a deep ball into the box by Clydebank is pushed away by Broxburn keeper McConnell and the Badgers eventually clear their lines.

A half volley by Jamie Docherty is easily saved by Clydebank keeper Owen Scott.

Broxburn defender Gallagher Lennon is booked for a pull-on Clydebank’s Aaron Black on thirty minutes.

Big chance for Broxburn on thirty-nine minutes. Scott McRory-Irving feeds in Jamie Docherty whose shot is well blocked by a well-timed sliding tackle from Clydebank defender David Syme. The resulting corner is cleared as far as Robbie McGale who takes on the Clydebank full back, but his shot deflects wide. On forty minutes, from the resulting corner, the ball bounces to Greg Page and his shot is blocked by Chris McGowan.

On forty-two minutes, a deep cross by Adam Hodge from the right finds Keir Samson whose header hits the bar, the rebound falls to Oisin McHugh whose header also hits the bar. Broxburn clear for the corner.

Match Report- (Cowdenbeath-Home- 25/10/25)

Broxburn make one change from last Saturday’s 3-1 Lowland League victory over Civil Service Strollers Away. In comes Alasdair Shrive who replaces Chris O’ Kane.

Cowdenbeath make four changes to last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Caledonian Braves. In comes Lewis Haldane, Conley Adamson, Rhys Walker & Stuart McDowell. They replace Dion Gear, Scott Williamson, Max Williamson & Liam Watt.

Cowdenbeath are the first to threaten on four minutes. A deep cross from the left by Sam Newman is just behind the onrushing Conley Adamson.

On six minutes, a Jamie Docherty shot is saved by Cowdenbeath keeper Lewis Haldane. On eight minutes, a Errol Douglas shot is wide of the left-hand post.

Cowdenbeath look more dangerous this half and have had a lot of possession. Errol Douglas does well to get us up the park and win a corner on fifty-four minutes.

Big chance for Broxburn to take the lead on fifty-seven minutes. Errol Douglas lays it off for Kyle Bell who accelerates past two Cowdenbeath defenders and his shot is saved by Cowdenbeath keeper Lewis Haldane.

Match Report- (Gala Fairydean Rovers -Home- 15/10/25)

On Tuesday Evening, we played host to Gala Fairydean Rovers at Albyn Park in the Lowland League.

Broxburn Athletic are in their changed kits this evening. Gold and Black strips, black shorts and black and gold socks. Visitors Gala Fairydean are in all White kits.

Broxburn make five changes from our 3-1 East of Scotland qualifying cup victory over Arniston Rangers last Saturday. In comes Jon Robertson, Jamie Docherty, Scott McRory Irving, Marcus Lavery and Chris O’ Kane.  They replace, Matthew McDonald, Luke Morris, Alisdair Shrive, Luke Watkins and Ewan MacPherson in the starting eleven.

Gala Fairydean make one change from the team that lost 3-0 at home to Clydebank last Saturday. Che Reilly replaces Jamie Semple.

Gala Fairydean Rovers create the first chance of the match on three minutes. Kieron Dolan is played in by Lewis Hall and he drags his shot wide of the left-hand post.

On seven minutes, a shot from distance by Broxburn midfielder Scott McRory-Irving is pushed wide by Gala goalkeeper Reece Murray. A minute later, a long ball forward by Robbie McGale finds Errol Douglas, but the big man takes a poor touch and Gala keeper Murray gets to the ball and collects before Douglas.

On eleven minutes, Ethan Dougal’s shot for the visitors is palmed away by Broxburn keeper Jack McConnell, but he manages to get collect before the onrushing Kieran Dolan. On Nineteen minutes, Gala Fairydean Rovers centre back Gregor Lamb picks up possession in the middle of the park. He drives forward and shoots just wide of the left-hand post.

On twenty-eight minutes, Sam Gormley heads wide from a Robbie McGale corner.

On thirty-three minutes, Lewis Hall takes the ball of Robbie McGale and drives into the box. Broxburn Athletic defender Sam Gormley makes an important block.

On thirty-six minutes, a shot by Errol Douglas is saved by Gala Fairydean Rovers keeper Reece Murray.

On forty-seven minutes, a shot by Gala’s Che Reilly is way wide of target.

Big shouts for a Broxburn penalty on forty-eight minutes. A shot by Robbie McGale looks to come of the hand of Gala defender Arnault Kasa, but referee McCart waves play on. On fifty-one minutes, a cross by Robbie McGale finds Errol Douglas who heads wide of the left-hand post. On fifty-six minutes, Kyle Bell runs at the Gala midfielder and tees up Jamie Docherty, whose shot is saved by Reece Murray.

Broxburn have made a positive reaction so far this half and look very dangerous.

First change of the match comes on fifty-seven minutes for Gala Fairydean Rovers. Jamie Semple replaces Lewis Hall.

On sixty-three minutes, a shot by Jamie Docherty is palmed wide by Gala keeper Reece Murray. The resulting corner taken by Robbie McGale finds Greg Page at the back post, but his header lands on top of the net.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. Jon Robertson finds Jamie Docherty whose volley from distance finds the bottom left corner, leaving keeper Murray no chance. What a finish!

Broxburn Athletic make four changes to the team that defeated Gretna 2008 4-2 in the Lowland League last Saturday. There is a debut for our new keeper Jack McConnell and starts for Luke Morris, Ewan MacPherson & Alisdair Shrive. They replace Bob Watt, Jon Robertson, Jamie Docherty and Scott McRory-Irving in the starting eleven. Our visitors Arniston Rangers make no changes to the side that defeated Stirling University 2-0 at Newtyles Park last Saturday.

Broxburn are in their traditional home kits, red and white shirts, white socks and red and white socks. Arniston Rangers are in blue with black trim shirts with blue shorts and socks.

First chance of the match comes for the hosts on two minutes. Robbie McGale advances down the right and his cross hits off Arniston’s Dylan Waugh and hits the bar. The referee awarded the visitors a free kick after a foul in the box by Errol Douglas on Arniston keeper Aaron Heap.

On five minutes, a corner by Jamie Scobie is right on new Broxburn keeper Jack McConnell who manages to punch it away, it falls to Sam Dickson whose shot deflects for another corner. The resulting corner taken by Robert McKenzie hits the bar and goes out for a Broxburn throw in right at the corner flag.

On nineteen minutes, A good ball forward down the right wing By Robbie McGale finds Errol Douglas and Ewan MacPherson through, but Arniston keeper Aaron Heap reads it well, and comes off his line to clear. On twenty minutes, a shot by Luke Watkins down the left is saved by McConnell. On twenty-one minutes, a Sam Gormley long ball finds Kyle Bell in on goal, but again Arniston goalie Heap reads it well, wins the header and clears his lines. On twenty-three minutes, a cross by Robbie McGale finds Errol Douglas who puts his shot over the bar.

Broxburn are struggling to break down this high and organised Arniston Rangers defensive line.

On twenty-six minutes, Alisdair Shrive plays in Luke Watkins whose shot is saved by Aaron Heap.

We returned to Albyn Park on Lowland League duty on Saturday, where Gretna 2008 were the visitors.

Before the game, we raised the new Albyn Park flag and gave it a good test in the blustery conditions. Our thanks again go to Tommy Davidson, who organised the raffle that funded the flag (photo attached below this report)

Broxburn Athletic make two changes from the 2-1  Scottish Cup 1st Round defeat to Bonnyrigg last weekend. In comes Luke Watkins and Matty McDonald, who replace Kyle Bell and Chris O’ Kane in the team. Gretna 2008 make three changes to last week’s 4-0 loss to Caledonian Braves. In comes keeper Harry Cross, Kayn Cranston and Sean Mackenzie. They replace Jim Atkinson, Lewis Bell and Iain Anderson in the starting eleven.

Broxburn create a half chance right on kick off. Scott McRory-Irving’s long ball bounces over Gretna Centre back Liam Short and looks to be falling to Jamie Docherty, but the wind puts the ball beyond him, and it’s collected by Gretna keeper Harry Cross.

On seven minutes, Scott McRory Irving plays a good ball to Luke Watkins in space on the left. Watkins gets his shot away, but it has no power and is easily collected by Gretna keeper Harry Cross.

So close for Broxburn on twelve minutes. Luke Watkins plays a good ball into Errol Douglas who holds up the ball before laying it off to the onrushing Matty McDonald. McDonald’s shot hits post.

GOAL! Gretna open the scoring. A cross from the left by Andrew Oram finds Sean McKenzie who heads into the right corner of the net.

Broxburn Athletic make two changes to last weekends 3-3 draw with Hearts B. In comes Kyle Bell and Andy Rodden, who replace Greg Page and Nick Locke in the starting eleven. University of Stirling start the same eleven who drew 1-1 with Bo’ness United at Forthbank last Saturday.

A deep Marcus Lavery cross from the left is caught by Uni keeper Buttigieg on five minutes.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. A long kick forward by Mikey Andrews sees Uni keeper Adam Buttigieg come of his line, the ball bounces over him and gifts Jamie Docherty a tap in from close range. Club Chaplin Andrew MacPherson confirmed that it was the first goalkeeper assist for us since Josh Blair assisting Greg Binnie against Dundonald Bluebell in a 5-5 draw at Albyn Park back in 2022.

GOAL! What a cracker by Scott McRory Irving. Chris O’Kane heads down to McRory Irving. He drives forward and from twenty-five yards, finds the right top corner with a great hit.
