Newburgh v Broxburn Athletic

Attendance  80

With the home side in transition and up against a premier league side it was going to take a major upset to see the home side through to the next round . It was Broxburn who created the first opening from a corner , after 2 minutes that saw Shaun Harrison head over .A minute later another corner was played in and it was cleared out to Joe Tait who fired a shot just over from thirty yards out . Newburgh had an effort from Elliot McCafferty  but it was well wide and high of the target . Ten minutes into the game and a corner won after good play was played to the back of the box where Ross Allum  saw his goal bound shot saved very well by Callum Sutherland .  A great ball in from the left from Donaldson saw Ross Nimmo head over . The opening did come in 18 minutes when  a corner into the box was met by SHAUN HARRISON who’s header crept over the line despite defenders on the line trying to clear it .Elliot McCafferty had another effort that was easily gathered on 21 minutes but showed the home side were not there to make up numbers . Broxburn continued to dominate and the second goal came when good play down the left ended with a ball into the box half cleared out to JOE TAIT who fired home . A minute later on 26 minutes  David Greenhill fired a shot inches wide with the keeper beaten from thirty yards .Ross Hutchison fired over a cross to Ross Allum who saw his shot force another great save from Sutherland . A minute later Allum was through but again Sutherland done well to thwart the striker . As the visitors piled on the pressure a corner in was headed goal ward by Barker and it was cleared of the line .  Forty-one minutes on the clock and yet again Sutherland saved well from Allum after a great ball in from Donaldson . Gordon Donaldson himself saw a great shot saved by tipping over the bar on 43 minutes . On the half time whistle a ball into the box was cleared to DAVID GREENHILL who fired into the bottom left hand corner from just inside the right side of the box .

The second half started as the first had finished with the visitors pressing for more . The fourth was not long in coming , two minutes into the half , a good clearance from Shaun Harrison saw him put ROSS NIMMO through on goal with the home defence crying offside , but the wee man did not stop and made sure from 12 yards out giving the keeper no chance . Tait saw a shot go over on 49 minutes . Five minutes later Ross Nimmo and Joe Tait carved out a chance but again Sutherland saved from Tait this time . The home side showed they were still trying when ELLIOT McCAFFERTY  raced through and just inside the box was met by Keeper Shaun Donoghue who lost out in a dual for the ball before sliding the ball home from an angle . On the hour mark Ross Hutchison fired a shot which was well saved again by Sutherland  for a corner . The corner into the back of the box was met by Donaldson who shot just past the left hand post .Gary Brass on for Ross Nimmo saw his shot come off the post but ROSS ALLUM was there to  knock it over the line from a yard out  to make it 5-1 . A minute later JACKSON BARKER made a good run through the defence to fire home his side sixth goal . Jack Beesley sent a great ball into the box which was met by an off balanced Gary Brass who’s effort went just wide left .  A minute later Liam Ireland put a ball through to Brass but he was no different from his team mates when Sutherland yet again saved his effort . The last effort from the visitors with five minute remaining saw Liam Ireland cross into the box and Allum saw his attempt come of the woodwork and go clear .

A professional job with a much changed side between injuries and holidays and cup tied players it was pleasing to see the squad show they can gel when called upon . A home tie the reward against University of Stirling  with a date to be arranged . Another good point no disciple issues or further injuries to give us any problem going forward .

With both teams making enforced changes it was a hard one to call . In 2 minutes a throw in from Ryan Finnie landed at Jordan Sinclair who so his shot go wide of the target . Along ball through on twenty minutes was just too long for Greg Binnie and the keeper gathered .  With 25 minutes gone Gordon Donaldson was booked for a foul twenty yards out . The resultant free kick taken by Jordan Sinclair  went inches over the bar .  A good one two  involving Grant Nelson and Ciaran Heeps  saw Nelson cross the ball deep into the box and Calum Smith met it but headed just past the post . Just past the half hour mark great play by Sean Stewart saw him get the ball to the bye line before sending over a cross which Jordan Wright headed clear before Smith got there .  Just before half time  Chris Townsley got cautioned by the referee after Quote from Berwick Rangers twitter  ” where Finnie stole 20 yards at a throw in ” and Chris complained !!!!  .  Broxburn took the lead on 56 minutes when Ross Allum was sent clear down the right before sending a low cross across the box which was met by ANDREW MAIR who had the easiest of chances to turn the ball home from two yards out . A couple of minutes later Berwick responded but Stewart fired over from 20 yards out not troubling Shaun Donoghue in the visitors goal .  On 67 minutes Ross Allum created another chance this time for Joe Tait who met his cross at the back of the box but he fired his effort over the bar . Berwick changed their formation after a shot from Sinclair went wide from 30 yards out . This seemed to work as on 73 minutes a ball into the box fell to CALUM SMITH who was allowed to play keepy uppy 12 yards out before slotting the ball into the bottom left hand corner . A one two on 80 minutes finished with Donoghue tipping a Graham Taylor effort round the post . Broxburn thought they had sealed a winner with 6 minutes remaining a long ball was flicked over the home defence by Allum and Jackson Barker ran through on to it but saw his shot crash off the crossbar and over for a bye kick .

Extra time and it was Broxburn who created first when Mair played a ball across the box but Jack Cook turned it behind for a corner . The corner came in and this time Grant Nelson turned it behind for another corner to the visitors . This corner was met by Ross Allum who headed over . With eleven minutes of extra time gone John Ward went on a great run before firing in a shot the Donoghue done well to parry before clearing .Cameron Dow sent a good ball into Kieran McGrath who turned and shot but  Donoghue saved with his legs . Berwick hit the woodwork twice in the last two minutes of extra time , the first was when a free kick went to Graham Taylor who crossed in to  McGrath  who set up Jamie Pyper  who shot off the post from ten yards . Then when a blocked effort from Sinclair fell to McGrath he cracked one of the post also . With 120 minutes not separating these two sides it was down to penalty kicks .

Broxburn went first and Shaun Harrison saw his effort crash of the woodwork and away .  Jamie Pyper stepped up and scored for the hosts . Goal scorer Andrew Mair was next for the visitors his shot was saved but was unlucky as the ball just failed to cross the line . Grant Nelson missed the hosts second spot kick . Jordan Wright gave the keeper no chance with his sides third . Next up Sinclair  who makes no mistake in finding the net . Liam Ireland scores his penalty with ease . Cameron Dow blasted his attempt well over the bar leaving it 2-2 after 4 penalties each . It was now down to who could hold their nerve as Ross Allum despatched his penalty into the back of the net to put the visitors in front in the shoot out for the first time Kieran McGrath made it 3-3 after 5 penalties each and now sudden death . Greg Nicol sent his penalty off the cross bar leaving  Graham Taylor to score to send the home side through but Shaun Donoghue had other ideas and pulled of a wonderful save  to keep his side in it . Jackson Barker was next and he gave the visitors the advantage again . David Ferguson was now handed the responsibility of keeping the Lowland League side in the cup but he could do nothing about Donoghue’s magnificent save to put his side through into the next round  draw scheduled for week beginning 25th October , with the next round  to be played on Saturday the 20th of November . Would just like to thank all who made the long journey down over the border to support the team it was much appreciated with everything else that was going on on Saturday .

Sauchie v Broxburn Ath

Attendance 130

Broxburn were the first to try and open the scoring with David Greenhill testing Charles Clark in the home goal on 2 minutes . A blow to Broxburn came in 5 minutes when Connor Wallace had to be replaced by Shaun Donoghue on 5 minutes when he injured himself attempting to clear the ball . Sauchie came close on nine minutes when Syme passed inside to Kelly who shot past the post from close . The opening goal came for the hosts when a poor pass back was intercepted and after good play BRIAN MORGAN managed to force the ball home at the left hand post .Broxburn fought back and three minutes later Gary Brass managed to get a control on a long ball but shot weakly past the post . Sauchie had a succession of corners on the 20 minutes but the visiting defence cleared all attempts .Ross Hutchison saw a thirty yard shot go just over the bar . Brass so a good turn and shot blocked by the defence . With five minutes of the half left Daniel Smith saw his deflected shot saved well by Shaun Donoghue .

Broxburn went on the attack from the off and Greg Binnie went down the right and his ball into the box was met by the head of Ross Allum but Clark saved well .The hosts had some sustained pressure which finished when Kris Kelly shot harmlessly wide . Sauchie increased their lead on 55 minutes when good play out to the right found Kris Kelly who fired in a cross to the back of the six yard box where MARK FINLAYSON ghosted in at the back of Newall and his header gave Donoghue no chance .

Broxburn got back in the game when awarded a free kick 20 yards out  GARY BRASS stepped up and fired a low shot under the wall and keeper to give the visitors a lift on 59 minutes . Shaun Donoghue pulled of a great save from Mark Finlayson on 62 minutes . Hutchison sent a ball through to Allum who saw his shot blocked . On 67 minutes Ross Allum made a run into the box and as he was prepared to shoot from a tight angle he was clearly pushed . ROSS ALLUM stepped up and gave Clark no chance from the spot  .

Sauchie regained the lead spectacularly when a Broxburn move broke down in midfield the ball was sent to AIDAN CRACKNELL who cut inside before unleashing a rocket into the top right hand corn from the left hand side , giving Donoghue no chance .  Joe Tait almost got a point for the visitor’s when making a run into the box his shot beat Clark but crashed off the cross bar and the defence cleared the danger .

Disappointing in the end with new additions Andrew Mair and Adam Murray  showing up well not to take anything from the game . We hope to add to the squad soon and hopefully before next week with some players missing hopeful of a return next Sunday when we play Dundonald Bluebell  with a 12-15pm kick off because of groundhop weekend .

With both sides depleted for one reason or another it was a hard one to call .Both keepers had very little to do in the opening 20 minutes apart from , on 8 minutes when Dean Shaw in the hosts goal came out to block Ross Allum who was through on goal in the right hand side of the box . Alan Docherty had a shot saved on 20 minutes by Connor Wallace  and the defence cleared the loose ball . Good play from the hosts four minutes later saw  Wallace save from Mark Stowe . Broxburn had a good break forward half way through the half but Ross Allum saw his shot go high and wide of the target .  Wallace looked lively to save a deflected shot from Stowe .A ball in from the left struck the visitors post and went out for a shy with the official giving the hosts the throw in for whatever reason . A minute later  a corner into the six yard box fell to MARK STOWE at the back post and he composed himself before firing past Newall and Wallace into the net . Two minutes later the visitors could not take advantage of a rose defence and keeper all at sea as the keeper came out his box the ball would not drop kindly to a visiting player who may have took advantage of the situation . mark Stowe sent a great ball into the box after working himself down the right only to see Connor Wallace clutch the ball before Alan Docherty was ready to head home at the back post . Conor McMullan tried an effort that Wallace saved .  The best chance of the half for the visitors came with five minutes left when David Greenhill sent Ross Allum through on goal but the forward shot weakly at the keeper and a good chance was gone .

Linlithgow started well the second have and two minutes in Thomas Hallern sent a great ball low across the six yard box but  Connor McMullan  was just too late to get on the end of the cross .  Stowe saw a shot saved and grabbed by Wallace on 51 minutes .Ross Nimmo almost got in on goal but his attempt was blocked by the home defenders . McMullan saw a curled shot go just wide and right of the goal .

The hosts doubled their lead when a ball played into the box was sent to the right hand post where a scramble ensued before JACK OGILVIE prodded the ball home despite claims for offside from the visitors the goal stood . The game petered out with only a Hallern header from a corner and a chance for Gary Brass to note . Disappointing day at the office and we will regroup and prepare for next Saturday’s away game to Sauchie .

Match Report

Est of Scotland Premier League – Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts v Broxburn Athletic – 11/09/2021

Broxburn made the short trip across the Forth to Dalgety Bay to face Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts who have made a really solid start to the season. Broxburn made three changes from the side who won on Wednesday night at Jeanfield, Brass, Hutchison and Nicol replacing Greenhill, Harrison and the departed Ross.

In the 2nd minute Cowley played a great ball to Tait who advanced towards goal striking a shot just over the bar.

A Hutchison mistake in 4 minutes allowed Kelly room to cross which Wallace called for and took well. He then launched the ball down field TAIT picked the ball up on the left cut inside his marker and curled a brilliant shot into the top corner of the net to put Broxburn ahead.

A great ball from Gillen down the right which was collected by Allum, the ball sat up well for him to strike but keeper Kaye saved comfortably at his near post.

Inverkeithing were getting a lot of time and space and they made use of this in 9 minutes, Kelly crossing, Morris flicked on with his head to SPENCE who was free to volley past Wallace at the back post.

The Brox had a gilt edged chance a minute later to get themselves in front a Gillen cross was not dealt with by the home defence but Allum fired his shot over the bar.

Hynd was booked for a foul on Cowley in 13 minutes.

The home side were concentrating their attacks down their left which were not being closed down by the visitors Kelly’s cross well defended by Gillen with Morris waiting to pounce.

In 21 minutes Inverkeithing took the lead a mistake from Donaldson which allowed a clear chance for SPENCE who curled a fine shot into the top right corner of the net past Wallace.

Morris got in on the left side and his cross was dangerous but thankfully from a Brox point of view Nicol defended well to concede a corner.

In 25 minutes Ireland tried his luck from 25 yards which was on target with Kaye having to keep a close eye on it to prevent the ball going in the top corner.

In 37 minutes Broxburn appealed for a penalty for handball from a Hutchison cross which wasn’t given.

Broxburn continued to give the hosts far too much time on the ball and only great defending from Hutchison prevented Simpson getting clean in on goal.

Half Time: Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts 2 – 1 Broxburn Athletic

Newall replaced Ireland for Broxburn at half time.

A Nicol free kick forced Scullion to concede a corner which was taken short Cowley crossed in the ball which broke to BRASS who turned and smashed the ball into the roof of the net. Time 47 minutes.

There was much more purpose and energy about Broxburn’s play now after a foul by Deas on Brass, Allum controlled the ball and shot on goal but he didn’t get enough purchase on his shot and was saved by Kaye.

Deas did well in 53 minutes to cut out a through ball from Nicol with Allum clean in on goal if he hadn’t.

The Brox continued to impress Cowley playing a great ball to Allum which sat up with Allum’s lob beating Kaye but just going over the bar.

The visitors were knocking the ball about to good effect setting up Nicol to try his luck from 25 yards out but his shot didn’t match the approach play.

A real left off for Broxburn on the hour, Kelly’s cross after a great run found its way to the back post to the onrushing Simpson who couldn’t control his shot and fired wildly over the bar.

In 62 minutes a great ball down the right wing from Wright found Allum who had timed his run to perfection he tried to play the ball to Brass in the centre but just couldn’t get the ball past the home defender.

A similar move followed Gillen playing to Newall this time and his high cross didn’t find either of Brass or Allum who were well placed.

The game was going end to end now Kelly’s cross found Morris whose header was blocked by Donaldson for a corner. Wallace dealt with the corner well.

In 69 minutes Tait created an opportunity down the right his cross was met by Allum whose header forced Kaye into a save.

In 70 minutes Barker and Greenhill replaced Cowley and Brass followed by Brough replacing Cowie for the home side moments later.

In 73 minutes Spence played a great cross field ball from left to right to find Morris whose cross was well defended by Gillen to concede a corner. From the corner a Brox head won the ball but hit the visitors cross bar and scrambled clear.

In 76 minutes Paterson was booked for a foul on Tait. From the free kick Newall crossed finding Wright at the back post but he snatched at his shot and flew well off target and high.

Broxburn were claiming for a handball again in 82 minutes from a Greenhill shot but nothing was given.

In 84 minutes Simpson replaced Hynd and Graham replaced Morris for Inverkeithing.

In 89 minutes from a Greenhill free kick Wright won a header Barker challenged for the ball with Kaye which the referee judged fair with no penalty awarded.

A hard fought point for the Brox with a much improved 2nd half performance with a point the least they deserved. Inverkeithing have made some astute signings and now sit 4th in the league and will be very difficult to beat this season. Broxburn move on to the re-arranged derby next Saturday at Linlithgow Rose.

 Jeanfield Swifts v Broxburn Athletic – 08/09/2021

On a beautiful night for football at the Riverside Stadium in Perth, Broxburn travelled to face Jeanfield Swifts who have had an indifferent start to their league campaign. Broxburn made 2 changes to the side who lost at Dunbar in the Scottish Cup, Newall and Binnie replaced with Donaldson and Ireland.

In an explosive start to the game in the first minute Allum was fouled by Dolzanski just outside the box to the right. Greenhill touched the ball off to ROSS who fired a shot low and hard and past keeper Mitchell and into the net.

The home side responded with some sharp incisive passing ending with Fergus hitting a great strike from 30 yards just over the bar.

Jeanfield were moving forward with pace and purpose and were almost level in 3 minutes Fergus played the ball neatly to Scott Smith who hit a left foot shot just wide of the right post.

The equaliser duly came a minute later with Broxburn having no answer to the home sides movement and passing, STRUTHERS applied a great finish from the edge of the box low past Wallace’s right hand.

Jeanfield continued to assert Fergus cut the ball back to Scott Smith who hit a shot just over the bar.

In 8 minutes a rash challenge from Wright on Struthers gave the home side another opportunity. From the free kick McLaren struck the ball well it took a deflection off the wall which Wallace did well to get a hand to and palm clear.

Broxburn responded Cowley sending Ross away down the right his cross being well blocked and defended by Whitehead.

In 11 minutes Gillen put over a fine cross from the right with Allum getting on the end of it but couldn’t get enough purchase on his header to make it count.

In 14 minutes Ross sent over a great cross from the right the ball broke to TAIT at the edge of the box and he volleyed brilliantly over Mitchell.

Jeanfield then took back control but despite a lot of possession couldn’t fashion a clear chance as Broxburn steadied in defence.

In 27 minutes a nice move between Ross and Ireland with the latter’s cross finding Allum whose shot was well blocked by the home defender. Wright was booked for the visitors in 28 minutes.

The Brox were starting to ask questions of the Jeanfield defence, another deep Ireland cross from the right had Reid scrambling to prevent Tait doubling his personal goal tally for the night. From the corner Ross found Allum at the front post his header was brilliantly saved by Mitchell but WRIGHT was quick to react to the loose ball and headed home. Time 28 minutes.

In 33 minutes the home defence were all at sea once again exposed down the right Allum managed to find TAIT on the left and his shot despite being partially blocked found the net.

The Brox weren’t finished yet in 35 minutes ALLUM opportunistically scored a fifth goal, he saw Mitchell off his line and lashed the ball over his head from the halfway line for a goal of the season contender without doubt.

In 45 minutes it was almost six again from the right side Allum flicked the ball wide with Tait oggling a first half hat trick Reid managed to scramble the ball away before the Spartans man could strike.

In first half injury time McLaren sent in a good shot which just curled wide.

Half Time Jeanfield Swifts 1 – 5 Broxburn Athletic

Barker replaced Cowley for Broxburn at half time.

In 49 minutes Tait made good ground down the left and won a corner. Ross’s corner was cleared. In 50 minutes Allum was brought down heavily by Donald, Ross took the free kick which nothing came of other than a booking for Ross for a foul on Donald.

Greenhill followed him into the book in 51 minutes.

In 55 minutes McLaren got the better of Gillen on the left and his cross was well blocked by Wright.

In 56 minutes in a collision between Ross and Donald, the home defender had blood on his face which was being claimed had been done by an elbow. The referee and lineman thought otherwise with no action taken after consultation.

In 58 minutes Jeanfield made 3 changes Scott, Dodd, Simpson replacing McLaren, Scott Smith and Donald.

Just following the substitutions Ross was injured going down heavily but the referee saw nothing amiss despite protests from the visitors.

In 63 minutes McLeish was replaced by Mark Smith.

Jeanfield were controlling possession, Broxburn content to defend what they had. In 66 minutes Struthers played the ball back on the left to Reid who fired a shot just over the bar. Stewart was then booked for the home side.

In 67 minutes Ireland played an intelligent pass out to Tait who curled his shot over. Harrison was booked then Brass replaced Tait shortly after.

Wright once again excelled with another great block on a Stewart shot.

In 75 minutes Newall replaced the injured Ireland. Brass was booked.

The home side forced a couple of corners on the trot and from the second one they won a penalty which wasn’t entirely clear the reason for the award. SCOTT dispatched the ball past Wallace from the spot.

Jeanfield weren’t far off getting another goal back in 82 minutes Struthers finding Mark Smith in the middle of the goal mouth but he headed wide.

In 82 minutes Barker was booked. Four minutes later Hutchison replaced Allum.

The Brox managed to see the game out for a great 3 points following a first half blitz of goals which will long be remembered to cement them firmly in third spot in the league. Another away trip awaits at the weekend at Inverkeithing Hillend Swifts.

Scottish Cup Preliminary Round – Dunbar United v Broxburn Athletic – 28/08/2021

A glorious summer’s afternoon with New Countess Park looking resplendent in the sunshine with the home side making their first ever entry into the Scottish Cup. Broxburn showed 3 changes from last week’s victory over Crossgates, Newall, Greenhill and Tait replacing Hutchison, Nicol and Barker. Dunbar made 4 changes following their heavy 5-1 loss at Linlithgow, Ingram , J. Purves, Weir and Edmond made way for Hay, Fleming, , Devlin and Smith.

Broxburn began brightly in the 1st minute Gillen getting in a cross from the right which found Tait whose shot was blocked by a home defender. As Dunbar broke out from a Broxburn corner, Newall appeared to be fouled going for the ball but the referee thought otherwise, allowing Jones to run from his own half, Gillen put in an unsuccessful sliding challenge leaving JONES clear to fire the ball past Wallace to give the home side a dream start. Time 4 minutes.

With the visitors stunned, a free kick from Jones was curled in which saw Wallace under pressure with the ball being scrambled clear.

The Brox were almost level in 6 minutes, great work from Tait down the right found Allum at the edge of the box, his first time shot just went past Laing’s left hand post.

From a corner in 9 minutes McFarlane won a header which took a deflection and looked to be heading in until Wallace intervened.

A huge blow for Broxburn in 14 minutes Binnie who had been injured after a high challenge couldn’t shake the knock off and was replaced by Ireland.

In 19 minutes the home side went close great work from Thomson beating Newall down the right his cross picked out Berry at the back post and his shot was saved by Wallace with his legs.

Four minutes later Ross played a perfect ball to Ireland on the left who got into the penalty box but his shot was blocked.

Ireland was prominent again in 28 minutes sending a great pass to Allum whose cross returned the ball to Ireland whose shot was well smothered by Laing. Broxburn kept the pressure on and created another shooting chance which Cowley got on target but straight at Laing.

Broxburn continued to create opportunities Ross sending over a fine cross which Allum peeled away to make contact with at the back post but he couldn’t get enough power in the header which Laing saved easily at the left hand post. In 40 minutes the pressure eventually paid off Gillen’s long ball finding Allum who slid the ball left to IRELAND who steadied himself before shooting into the bottom right corner of the net past Laing.

Half Time Dunbar United 1 – 1 Broxburn Athletic

Broxburn made a tactical change at half time swapping the full backs round, Gillen going to the left Newall to the right.

This change nearly worked in 50 minutes Newall finding Ross whose shot was dealt with comfortably by Laing.

Ross was causing problems down the right beating the full back and firing in a shot which was too high.

The same player delivered a great cross in 51 minutes which found the onrushing Ireland who couldn’t direct his shot on target just going past the post.

Jones had been lively throughout for Dunbar and forced Wallace into a good save in 52 minutes.

The Brox should have taken the lead in 56 minutes Ross once again the provider Dunbar made a hash of trying to clear the ball which fell to Ireland who somehow missed the target when a goal seemed certain.

Greenhill, Ross and Allum then combined with the latter curling a shot deep to the back post which Laing had to keep an eye on and deal with.

Dunbar made their first change Hay replaced with Weir in 62 minutes.

Harrison and Devlin were both booked for an altercation where the home player may have been fortunate to stay on the field. From the free kick Harrison’s long ball was well won by Allum who forced a corner.

Incredibly Dunbar cleared from the corner and found themselves in a 2 on 1 break Jones played in DEVLIN who strided clear and slotted past Wallace in 66 minutes.

Broxburn tried to hit back immediately a long ball from Wallace was controlled by Ross who got a shot off which Laing saved.

More self inflicted pain followed for the Brox in 70 minutes a loose pass from Greenhill saw Wright forced into a diving challenge which caught Jones just inside the Broxburn half which he saw red for.

Brass replaced Tait for the visitors.

Broxburn’s afternoon was complete in 74 minutes following a mix up between Harrison and Wallace, DEVLIN was left with the simple task of knocking the ball into an empty net.

Dunbar made 2 changes in 75 minutes Devlin and Berry being replaced by Fairnie and D.Purves.

The home side were in control now with the extra man D.Purves having an effort cleared off the line by Newall.

A very disappointing afternoon and early Scottish Cup exit down by the seaside with Broxburn handing Dunbar 3 gifts for goals. With Linlithgow also going out of ttheScottish Cup it will be an interesting derby match at Prestonfield next weekend.

The equaliser was only delayed another minute when another good team move saw LIAM IRELAND receive a neat back heel from Ross Allum to fire home from just inside the box . A couple of minutes later Arran Laidlaw  made a run down the right but his shot from a tight angle was easily gathered by Shaun Donoghue in the visitors goal . A minute later at the other end Gillen made a good block from the Whitehill forward.. Ireland made a good run on 71 minutes but was thwarted by good defending in the box .

If the hosts were to turn the game around they were going to have to do it with ten men as Chris Cairney was shown a straight red card for a cynical foul on Cammie Ross as he he was running forward .

A good run and cross by Ross was cut out by Bryan Wilson in the home defence . Liam McCardle was stopped from creating a opportunity by the resolute Broxburn defence . Greg Binnie failed to get good control from a ball into the box by Allum with ten minutes to go . The third goal came 3 minutes later when CAMMIE ROSS was sent down the left and he ran into the box with the ball running away from him most thought the chance had gone but not him as he fired past Capes from a tight angle into the bottom right hand corner . The visitors were going for more with Ireland putting in a good ball for Barker but his header went wide of the target . A minute later Jackson Barker forced a great save from Sam Capes . The last opportunity came from Craig Newall who’s effort went just over the bar from 20 yards out .

With the squad depleted Broxburn’s strength in depth came through a difficult tie that sets up a second round trip to North Fife to picturesque Newburgh on a date to be arranged . Good performance from all tonight and we now concentrate on Saturday’s Premier league game at Blackburn on Saturday .
