Next up for the Badgers was a trip along the M8 as we played Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill on Tuesday evening.

Albion Rovers are in yellow shirts, red shorts and yellow socks. Broxburn Athletic are in their changed all navy kits. Broxburn Athletic make one change from the side that defeated Cowdenbeath 2-1 at Central Park, last Saturday. In comes Louis Kennedy who replaces Robbie McGale. Hosts Albion Rovers make two changes to their South of Scotland cup exit, against Throniewood United at Cliftonhill last Saturday. In comes Devan McColl and Nathan Brown who replace Barry Campbell & Sam Duruh.

GOAL! Broxburn have an early lead. Jon Robertson picks up on the right and plays a ball forward to Louis Kennedy. The Broxburn wingers cross is half cleared as far as Jamie Docherty, who takes a touch before scoring into the left corner.

 GOAL! What a start for the Badgers. Jon Robertson plays it infield to Kyle Bell who drives forward, before playing in Louis Kennedy. Kennedy’s shot is palmed away by Albion keeper Alfie Halliwell. The loose ball is half cleared by Devan McColl as far as Jamie Docherty who scores a great finish on the half volley that kisses the bar on the way in.

 On eighteen minutes, Scott McRory Irving is first in referee’s Regan Wallace for a foul on Albion midfielder Barry Duncan.

On twenty-four minutes, Kyle Bell plays a long ball down the right in the direction of Louis Kennedy. Albion Rovers keeper, Alfie Halliwell bravely comes of his line and heads out for a Broxburn throw in.

Unfortunately, Albion Rovers skipper Alan Reid can’t continue due to injury and is replaced by Barry Campbell on twenty-five minutes. Hopefully its not to serious and we wish Alan all the best.

Next in the book is Broxburn midfielder Kyle Bell for a foul on Albion’s Grant Marchant on twenty-six minutes. On twenty-seven minutes, Jon Robertson’s whipped ball in is half cleared by Albion Rovers, as far as Jamie Docherty whose shot this time is over the bar.

On thirty-three minutes, Jamie Docherty wins possession at the halfway line on the left. He spots keeper Halliwell of his line and decides to have a shot. It lacks power and Halliwell manages to get to it. On thirty-four minutes, Marcus Lavery chases down a through ball from Kyle Bell down the left. He cuts it back for Jamie Docherty who shoots over the bar.

On thirty-seven minutes, Albion Rovers full back Euan Bowie is very lucky not to be booked for a pull-on Louis Kennedy. The referee gives him a stern talking too. On thirty-eight minutes, Errol Douglas holds the ball up and plays in Chris O’Kane, who is through on goal. O’ Kane goes down under the challenge from Rovers full back Bowie, but referee Wallace is having none of it and gives Rovers the free kick.

Albion’s Alfie Lumsden is booked on forty minutes for taking the ball away as Broxburn were about to take a free kick. Bang on 45 minutes, a Barry Duncan shot from outside the box deflects wide of the left-hand post.

We head over to Fife this weekend to take on Cowdenbeath in the Lowland League.

Cowdenbeath are in blue shirts, white shorts and red socks. Broxburn Athletic are in their changed kits, Gold and black strips, black shorts and black and gold socks. Broxburn Athletic make two changes to the team that was defeated 5-0 from Linlithgow Rose at Prestonfield last Saturday. In come Jamie Docherty and Scott McRory-Irving who replace Shaun Brown & Louis Kennedy in the starting eleven. Cowdenbeath make one change from their 1-1 draw against Clydebank last Saturday. Ex Broxburn striker Darren Downie replaces Zach Tomany.

GOAL! Cowden take the lead. A Stuart McDowell corner on the right is half cleared by Broxburn’s Chris O’Kane. McDowell picks up the loose ball and his cross is headed home by Cowdenbeath captain Jack Denham.

We travelled to Prestonfield on Saturday to take on local Rivals Linlithgow Rose in the Union Canal Derby.

Linlithgow Rose are in maroon strips, white shorts and maroon socks, while Broxburn Athletic are in all navy Blue. Broxburn Athletic make six changes to the team that defeated Heriot Watt 4-0 at the Oriam last Tuesday night. In come Mikey Andrews, Robbie McGale, Shaun Brown, Jon Robertson, Louis Kennedy and Kyle Bell who replace Bob Watt, Matty McDonald, Nick Locke, Jamie Docherty, Luke Morris and Ewan MacPherson. Linlithgow Rose make seven changes to the side that defeated Pumpherston on Tuesday night Ciaran Greene, Greg Skinner, Dylan Paterson, Callum Rae, Lucas Stenhouse, Olly Hamilton and Louis MaGuire replace Cammy Thomson, Gary Thom, Adri Anagnostou, Regan Lumsden, Alan Sneddon, James Berry & Harry McMartin.

Broxburn are the first to threaten with only a minute on the clock. Errol Douglas picks it up on the right and tees up Shaun Brown, whose shot has no power and roles wide of the left-hand post.

First chance falls to Broxburn on nine minutes. Chris O’ Kane wins the loose ball finding, Jamie Docherty. The Broxburn winger drives into the box and finds Errol Douglas, whose shot is narrowly wide of the left-hand post. On fifteen minutes, Nick Locke is fouled just outside the box by Heriot Watt’s Robbie Logan. Locke steps up to take the free kick, but his effort is over the bar.

On 17 minutes, Heriot Watt create their first chance of the match. Eoghan Mullholland plays a good ball down the right for Robbie Logan. Logan’s cuts it back to the advanced Mullholland whose shot looks to be finding the bottom left corner, but Sam Gormley makes an important block.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. Jamie Docherty’s flick is headed on by Errol Douglas finding Chris O’ Kane whose header on finds Ewan MacPherson. MacPherson’s shot is blocked by Heriot Watt keeper Diego Sanchez, sending the ball into the air. It comes down on the head of Chris O’ Kane who heads on again to Ewan MacPherson who this time forces it over the line for the opening goal of the game.

Broxburn make six changes from Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat by Caledonian Braves. In come the returning Greg Page and Errol Douglas who are joined by Shaun Brown, Scott McRory Irving and Louis Kennedy. There is also a debut for summer signing Robbie McGale at right back. They replace, Chris O’ Kane, Robbie Hamilton, Jamie Docherty, Matthew McDonald, Luke Morris and Ewan MacPherson in the Broxburn starting eleven. Visitors Berwick rangers make two changes from their midweek draw away at Tranent. In come Callum Antell and Liam Buchanan who replace Liam Campbell and Taylor Hendry.

Berwick Rangers have the ball in the net on five minutes. Kyle Somers is played in by Struan Mair, but he is offside.

In eleven minutes, Berwick Rangers work a short corner, taken by Scott McKenzie who plays a one-two with Kyle Somers before whipping it in, but Sam Gormley does well to get their first to concede another corner.

On fifteen minutes, Shaun Brown picks up wide left and floats a powerful cross over that evades everyone.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. Robbie McGale’s dangerous cross from the right is glanced into his own net by Jamie Pyper.

 On eighteen minutes, Berwick Rangers keeper Callum Antell comes out his box and controls the ball with his hand. Broxburn coach Lewis Turner is booked for his protests.

On twenty-one minutes, Marcus Lavery’s shot is over the bar from the right.

On twenty-five minutes, Marcus Lavery plays a good one two with Shaun Brown, Alfie Robinson does enough and puts in a good, hard challenge on the advanced Lavery. Robbie McGale takes the resulting corner, and it is a good delivery, but Errol Douglas just can’t make good contact on the ball. A minute later, Shaun Brown is fed in by Louis Kennedy, but his cross has too much on it.

On twenty-nine minutes, Shaun Brown is fed in by Scott McRory- Irving. Brown takes on Callum Pitt before a cracking turn on the ball. He gets his shot away, but it’s saved by the feet of Berwick keeper Calum Antell. On thirty-two minutes, Louis Kennedy plays a low cross over the box that finds Errol Douglas who scores from close range. But the linesman quickly put’s his flag up and its ruled offside. On forty-four minutes, Shaun Brown lays it off for Scott McRory Irving whose shot is wide of the left-hand post.

GOAL! Broxburn have a second right on the stroke of half time. Kyle Bell plays a decent ball in for Shaun Brown who finishes well.

 On forty-eight minutes, Shaun Brown finds Scott McRory Irving with a long ball into the box from the left, McRory Irving catches the ball on the volley and his effort is narrowly wide.

On fifty-one minutes, Scott MacKenzie floats a ball into the box, which is missed by Sam Gormley, leaving Liam Buchanan through on goal. Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews makes a good save to deny him, and the loose ball is cleared by Gormley for a Berwick corner. The resulting corner taken by Kyle Somers is spilled by Mikey Andrews. There is a scramble in the box and eventually its half cleared of the line by Errol Douglas. Berwick defender Alfie Robinson has a shot that smacks the post. It deflects out too Kyle Somers whose cross goes wide.

On fifty-four minutes, Mikey Andrews is punished for taking too much time with the ball in his hands and referee Donoghue gifts Berwick Rangers a corner kick.

Berwick make a change on fifty-five minutes, on comes Jonny Devers who replaces Michael Mbewe.

On fifty-seven minutes, Robbie McGale picks up a loose ball in a central position and his shot from distance is wide of target. On sixty-one minutes, Shaun Brown finds Scott McRory Irving who drags his shot over the bar.

On Tuesday evening, we hosted Caledonian Braves in our first home league game of the season.

Broxburn Athletic make two changes to their opening day 3-2 defeat to Celtic B last Friday. In comes Luke Morris and Kyle Bell who replace Andy Rodden and Scott McRory Irving. Caledonian Braves make two changes from their opening day 2-0 victory over University of Stirling on Saturday. In comes Lennon Walker & Calum Biggar, who replace Dom McMahon and Regan McLaren.

Unfortunately, Broxburn’s Robbie Hamilton picks up an early injury and can’t continue. Hopefully not too serious for Hammy and we see him back soon for the Badgers.

 On thirteen minutes, a long ball forward by Jon Guthrie finds Ross McNeil who beats the offside trap and runs into the box from the right with just the keeper to beat, but Broxburn goalie Mikey Andrews makes himself big and makes an important block for the hosts.

On fourteen minutes, a long ball forward from Caley Braves keeper Bernard White finds Ross McNeil who is fouled by Marcus Lavery and Braves have a free kick in a dangerous position. Up steps Cammy Breadner whose effort is over the bar for the visitors.

Great team move by Broxburn on eighteen minutes, with most players getting a touch. It ends with a cross over from Jon Robertson that has too much on it and rolls out for a goal kick.

Chance for Caledonian Braves on twenty-one minutes. Jon Guthrie feeds in Ross McNeil who drags his shot wide of the left-hand post. On thirty-three minutes, Caley Braves threaten again. McNeil holds up play before playing in the advanced Ross McNeil whose low cross is cleared by Broxburn defender Sam Gormley.

On thirty-seven minutes, a Kyle Bell shot from distance is saved by Braves keeper White. On forty minutes, a corner is nodded on by Chris O’ Kane in the direction of Broxburn lone striker Ewan MacPherson. With his back to goal, he attempts an overhead kick but doesn’t make any contact.

 GOAL! Caledonian Braves have the lead. Slack play by Broxburn and Braves fly forward quickly. It’s fed into Connor McLaren who slots into the left corner of the net.

Frustrating night for Broxburn who has a lot of the ball but lacked penetration. With a few big players due back on Saturday, we look to bounce back and get points on the board.

We kicked off our Lowland league season with an away trip to Celtic B at the Excelsior Stadium.

Celtic B are in their traditional kits. Green and White hooped shirts with white shorts and socks. Visitors Broxburn Athletic are in their changed all navy-blue strips. Broxburn Athletic make one change from the team that defeated Bo’ness Athletic 5-2 last weekend. In comes Robbie Hamilton to replace Louis Kennedy.

With only a minute on the clock, Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews comes of his line to clear the ball but gifts it right to Rhys Dargie, but the Celtic winger shoots wide.

On eight minutes, Celtic midfielder Samuel Isiguzo is booked for a foul on Matty McDonald in the middle of the park.

On eleven minutes, Marcus Lavery plays a good through ball for the advanced Andy Rodden. The Broxburn left back is conceded for a corner by Celtic B captain Mitchell Robertson. GOAL! Broxburn take the lead! A deep corner by Andy Rodden is half cleared by Celtic, only as far as Jon Robertson whose header finds the left corner.

Celtic B winger Thomas Hatton is free on the left and his low cross is half cleared by Andy Rodden. The ball falls for Sean Cardle whose effort is over the bar for the hosts.

On twenty minutes, Broxburn come close from a good training ground move. Andy Rodden is over the free kick and plays a short pass to Scott McRory Irving who plays in Robbie Hamilton. Hamilton’s shot is saved by Celtic keeper Marcus Gill. On 22 minutes, Scott McRory Irving’s long ball over finds Jon Robertson on the right, but Robbo’s shot is over the bar.

Since the Celtic B equalizer, The Wee Hoops have dominated possession and look a huge threat going forward. Broxburn look to have lost a bit of their confidence.

We have a stoppage in play on twenty-eight minutes as Emmanuel Obiwide and Marcus Lavery collide heads unintentionally. Fortunately, both players can continue, but Broxburn are down to ten men as Marcus Lavery is cut open.

GOAL! Celtic B punish ten men Broxburn and take the lead. Sean McCardle feeds in Rhys Dargie who slots his shot into the right corner leaving Mikey Andrews no chance.

Chance for Broxburn on forty-three minutes. Jon Robertson feeds in Robbie Hamilton, whose shot is just wide of the left-hand post. The resulting corner taken by Andy Rodden is bread and butter for Celtic B keeper Marcus Gill who collects.

Broxburn are throwing everything for an equaliser. A long ball forward looks to be landing right Infront of Chris O’Kane, but Celtic B skipper Mitchell Robertson makes a great block.

Celtic B catch Broxburn on the break. Thomas Hatton is free on the right and squares it for Francis Turley whose shot is well blocked by Mikey Andrews.

Broxburn push everyone forward again. Deep into injury time Chris O’ Kane goes down in the box, but the referee is having none of it.

Lots of positives to take tonight. Missing a few vital players tonight also. I’m convinced we have a lot to be excited about this season.
