We travelled to the Capital on Saturday to face Civil Service Strollers at Christie Gillies Park in the Lowland League.

Civil Service Strollers are in all navy Blue. Broxburn Athletic are in their changed all Gold and Black kits.

Broxburn keep the same starting eleven that defeated Gala Fairydean 1-0 last Tuesday

Civil Service Strollers make one change from the team that defeated University of Stirling 3-2 away last Wednesday. Sam Coats replaces Marc Laird.

GOAL! Civil Service Strollers take an early lead. A ball into the box is half cleared by Greg Page, the loose ball is picked up by Tuacenio Dos Santos whose effort beats Broxburn keeper McConnell before kissing the post and going over the line.

 On five minutes, a long ball forward by Greg Page finds Chris O’ Kane who is in behind with just the keeper to beat. Civil Service Strollers keeper Archie Meek wipes O’ Kane out but unbelievably referee Leslie gives a corner. GOAL! Broxburn equalise! From the resulting corner taken by Robbie McGale is headed into the left corner by Jon Robertson.

Broxburn Athletic nearly take the lead on thirteen minutes.  Chris O’ Kane header forward finds Jamie Docherty. Doc turns two Strollers players and drags his shot inches wide of the left-hand post.

 GOAL! 2-1 Broxburn. What a ball by Greg Page from centre back. Right through for Chris O’Kane who buries it past Strollers keeper Meek high into the net.

 On twenty-three minutes, an awkward ball into the box from Strollers winger Ryan Duncan is collected by Broxburn keeper Jack McConnell.

On twenty-four minutes, good midfield play By Scott McRory Irving who Finds Kyle Bell with a good, chipped pass. Bell drives on and plays in Errol Douglas who shot over the bar. On twenty-six minutes, Kyle Bell finds Jamie Docherty whose shot is palmed wide Strollers keeper Adam Meek.

GOAL! 3-1 Broxburn Athletic. A great move by Broxburn started by Jon Robertson, plays a one-two with Kyle Bell who feeds in Marcus Lavery down the left. Lavery’s low cross is tapped home from close range from Chris O’ Kane for his second of the day.

On Tuesday Evening, we played host to Gala Fairydean Rovers at Albyn Park in the Lowland League.

Broxburn Athletic are in their changed kits this evening. Gold and Black strips, black shorts and black and gold socks. Visitors Gala Fairydean are in all White kits.

Broxburn make five changes from our 3-1 East of Scotland qualifying cup victory over Arniston Rangers last Saturday. In comes Jon Robertson, Jamie Docherty, Scott McRory Irving, Marcus Lavery and Chris O’ Kane.  They replace, Matthew McDonald, Luke Morris, Alisdair Shrive, Luke Watkins and Ewan MacPherson in the starting eleven.

Gala Fairydean make one change from the team that lost 3-0 at home to Clydebank last Saturday. Che Reilly replaces Jamie Semple.

Gala Fairydean Rovers create the first chance of the match on three minutes. Kieron Dolan is played in by Lewis Hall and he drags his shot wide of the left-hand post.

On seven minutes, a shot from distance by Broxburn midfielder Scott McRory-Irving is pushed wide by Gala goalkeeper Reece Murray. A minute later, a long ball forward by Robbie McGale finds Errol Douglas, but the big man takes a poor touch and Gala keeper Murray gets to the ball and collects before Douglas.

On eleven minutes, Ethan Dougal’s shot for the visitors is palmed away by Broxburn keeper Jack McConnell, but he manages to get collect before the onrushing Kieran Dolan. On Nineteen minutes, Gala Fairydean Rovers centre back Gregor Lamb picks up possession in the middle of the park. He drives forward and shoots just wide of the left-hand post.

On twenty-eight minutes, Sam Gormley heads wide from a Robbie McGale corner.

On thirty-three minutes, Lewis Hall takes the ball of Robbie McGale and drives into the box. Broxburn Athletic defender Sam Gormley makes an important block.

On thirty-six minutes, a shot by Errol Douglas is saved by Gala Fairydean Rovers keeper Reece Murray.

On forty-seven minutes, a shot by Gala’s Che Reilly is way wide of target.

Big shouts for a Broxburn penalty on forty-eight minutes. A shot by Robbie McGale looks to come of the hand of Gala defender Arnault Kasa, but referee McCart waves play on. On fifty-one minutes, a cross by Robbie McGale finds Errol Douglas who heads wide of the left-hand post. On fifty-six minutes, Kyle Bell runs at the Gala midfielder and tees up Jamie Docherty, whose shot is saved by Reece Murray.

Broxburn have made a positive reaction so far this half and look very dangerous.

First change of the match comes on fifty-seven minutes for Gala Fairydean Rovers. Jamie Semple replaces Lewis Hall.

On sixty-three minutes, a shot by Jamie Docherty is palmed wide by Gala keeper Reece Murray. The resulting corner taken by Robbie McGale finds Greg Page at the back post, but his header lands on top of the net.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. Jon Robertson finds Jamie Docherty whose volley from distance finds the bottom left corner, leaving keeper Murray no chance. What a finish!

We returned to Albyn Park on Lowland League duty on Saturday, where Gretna 2008 were the visitors.

Before the game, we raised the new Albyn Park flag and gave it a good test in the blustery conditions. Our thanks again go to Tommy Davidson, who organised the raffle that funded the flag (photo attached below this report) 

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits. Red and White shirts, white shorts and red and white socks. Visitors Gretna 2008 are in white and black shirts with black shorts and socks. Broxburn Athletic make two changes from the 2-1  Scottish Cup 1st Round defeat to Bonnyrigg last weekend. In comes Luke Watkins and Matty McDonald, who replace Kyle Bell and Chris O’ Kane in the team. Gretna 2008 make three changes to last week’s 4-0 loss to Caledonian Braves. In comes keeper Harry Cross, Kayn Cranston and Sean Mackenzie. They replace Jim Atkinson, Lewis Bell and Iain Anderson in the starting eleven.

Broxburn create a half chance right on kick off. Scott McRory-Irving’s long ball bounces over Gretna Centre back Liam Short and looks to be falling to Jamie Docherty, but the wind puts the ball beyond him, and it’s collected by Gretna keeper Harry Cross.

On seven minutes, Scott McRory Irving plays a good ball to Luke Watkins in space on the left. Watkins gets his shot away, but it has no power and is easily collected by Gretna keeper Harry Cross.

So close for Broxburn on twelve minutes. Luke Watkins plays a good ball into Errol Douglas who holds up the ball before laying it off to the onrushing Matty McDonald. McDonald’s shot hits post.

GOAL! Gretna open the scoring. A cross from the left by Andrew Oram finds Sean McKenzie who heads into the right corner of the net.

Broxburn Athletic make two changes from the team that lost last Saturday against Tranent 4-1 at Foresters Park. In comes Errol Douglas and Greg Page who replaces Nick Locke and Ewan MacPherson in the starting eleven.

Unfortunately, Broxburn Athletic have to make an early change as Kyle Bell is injured and can’t continue.

Gala Fairydean are in red shirts with black shorts and socks. Broxburn Athletic are in Navy shirts, white shorts and red socks. Broxburn make one change from the team that defeated University of Stirling 5-1 last weekend, loanee keeper Evan Myles replaces injured keeper Mikey Andrews. Gala Fairydean make two changes from the team that lost at home 6-3 to East Stirlingshire last Saturday. In comes Jamie Semple and Jamie Dolan who replace Fletcher Patterson & Jamie McMurdo.

In the first minute, Gala Fairydean create the fist chance of the match. From a Che Reilly cross from the left, Jamie Semple heads over.

On seven minutes, a cross from Andy Rodden finds Jon Robertson who heads home, but its ruled offside by the stand side linesman.

Big chance for Gala Fairydean on thirteen minutes. Kieran Dolan feeds in Jamie Semple who looks to be offside. His shot is saved by Evan Myles.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead on fourteen minutes. Errol Douglas plays in Chris’ O Kane whose initial shot is saved by Gala keeper Reece Murray, but the rebound falls back to O’Kane who scores.

On twenty-two minutes. Keiran Dolan crosses for Lewis Hall whose header is saved by Broxburn keeper Evan Myles.

GOAL! Gala equalize on twenty-three minutes. Broxburn’s on loan Livingston keeper Evan Myles ball out to Scott McRory Irving is intercepted by Arnault Kasa. The ball drops to Keaghan Jacobs, whose shot is saved, but the rebound falls right into the path of Jamie Semple who scores.

 Lovely but of skill by Jamie Docherty who nutmegs Gala number 22 Jared Lyons before playing a great pass wide right for Robbie McGale. The Broxburn full back’s cross is cleared by Gala.

On thirty-six minutes, a shot by Andy Rodden is saved by Gala keeper Reece Murray.

On forty-four minutes, Kieran Dolan does well to win the corner. From the resulting corner taken by Dolan finds Lewis Hall whose header is cleared of the line by Broxburn’s Jon Robertson.

On fifty-three minutes, Gala’s Jamie Semple sees Broxburn keeper Evan Myles of his line. His attempt is over the bar. The hosts came close on fifty-three minutes also. A cross from the left by Kieran Dolan is just above the onrushing Keaghan Jacobs.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits. Red and white strips, white shorts and red and white socks. University of Stirling are in all dark green kits. Broxburn Athletic make two changes to last weekends 3-3 draw with Hearts B. In comes Kyle Bell and Andy Rodden, who replace Greg Page and Nick Locke in the starting eleven. University of Stirling start the same eleven who drew 1-1 with Bo’ness United at Forthbank last Saturday.

Broxburn start the brighter of the two sides.

A deep Marcus Lavery cross from the left is caught by Uni keeper Buttigieg on five minutes.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. A long kick forward by Mikey Andrews sees Uni keeper Adam Buttigieg come of his line, the ball bounces over him and gifts Jamie Docherty a tap in from close range. Club Chaplin Andrew MacPherson confirmed that it was the first goalkeeper assist for us since Josh Blair assisting Greg Binnie against Dundonald Bluebell in a 5-5 draw at Albyn Park back in 2022.

Up the other end, we all had our hearts in our mouth. As like the Broxburn goal, a long ball forward from right back Alex Jeanes bounces over the outrushing Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews but fortunately goes wide of the left-hand post. On ten minutes, a free kick by Euan Walker is half cleared by Sam Gormley, only as far as Finlay Moffet, whose whipped cross from the right is headed wide by Calan Ledingham.

GOAL! What a cracker by Scott McRory Irving. Chris O’Kane heads down to McRory Irving. He drives forward and from twenty-five yards, finds the right top corner with a great hit.

On thirty minutes, Broxburn’s Sam Gormley is booked for a foul on Uni’s Lewis Blaine.

On thirty-three minutes, there are huge shouts for a Broxburn penalty. From an Alex Jeanes back pass, Uni keeper Adam Buttigieg takes a touch, but Jamie Docherty looks to get to the ball before Buttigieg and looks to foul the Broxburn winger. But referee MacDonald waves play on.

On thirty-five minutes, a cross by Andy Rodden finds Errol Douglas, whose back heel hits the side netting.

Next in the book is University of Stirling’s Duncan Laird for a foul on Scott McRory Irving on thirty-six minutes.

On thirty-seven minutes, Broxburn have a penalty. Chris O’ Kane is wiped out by Calan Ledingham, and the referee has no hesitation and points to the spot. GOAL! Up steps Errol Douglas who slots into the right corner.

On ninety-one minutes, a dangerous cross by Robbie McGale has no takers and rolls out for a goal kick. On ninety-three minutes, another good cross by McGale finds Matty McDonald whose header is saved by Adam Buttigieg.

A huge three points for the club. We could have scored a few more today, we move on to Gala Fairydean on Wednesday in the first game under new gaffer John Miller who was named as I was writing this report.

Broxburn Athletic are in their changed kits. Black and gold strips, shorts and socks, while Heart of Midlothian B are in white shirts with maroon shorts and white socks. Broxburn Athletic make one change to the team that defeated Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill 3-2 last Tuesday. Matty McDonald replaces Kyle Bell. Hearts B make eight changes from their 2-0 loss to Gala Fairydean at Ainslie Park last Tuesday night. In comes, Jamie McDonald, Alfie Osbourne, Matthew Gilles, Euan Glasgow, Joshua Radcliffe, Taylor Hogarth and Gus Stevenson. They replace Lyndon Tas, Gregor Crookston, Lucas Smith, Mackenzie Ross, Alfie Wilson, Callen Robb and Henry James in the starting eleven.

Broxburn create the first chance of the match on two minutes. A long ball forward by Greg Page, is misread by Hearts left back Josh Radcliffe, leaving Nick Locke with just the keeper to beat. But Locke put’s his effort wide of the right-hand post.

On seven minutes, Hearts B create their chance. Dom Plank receives the ball high up the park on the left from Connor Dow. He drives forward and his deflected shot is easily collected by Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews.

GOAL! Hearts B take the lead. Kai Smutek sends it long down the right. Mikey Andrews comes of his line and Greg Page doesn’t deal with the ball forward. Connor Dow nips in between them and stabs it home for the opening goal.

Another chance for Broxburn on sixteen minutes, a deep cross by Marcus Lavery on the left is punched clear by Jamie McDonald. The loose ball is picked up by Scott McRory Irving who shoots narrowly past the right-hand post from outside the box.

GOAL! Broxburn equalize! Euan Glasgow fouls Jamie Docherty just outside the box on the left.  The free kick, taken by Jamei Docherty creates a scramble in the box, which Hearts only get half clear as far as Errol Douglas whose shot finds the bottom right corner.

On thirty-nine minutes, a shot from distance by Nick Locke is tipped over the bar by veteran Hearts keeper Jamie McDonald. Locke comes close again on forty-two minutes. Volleying just wide of the right-hand post from a long Sam Gormley ball forward.

Hearts B defender Alfie Osbourne is booked for dissent on forty-two minutes.

Big shouts for a Broxburn penalty on forty-three minutes as Errol Douglas is pulled by Josh Radcliffe as he is about to shoot in the box. No penalty given and we play on.

Next in the book is Hearts number 13 Josh Radcliffe for a late tackle on Errol Douglas on the edge of the box. Andy Rodden takes the resulting free kick that is pushed away by Hearts keeper Jamie McDonald.

GOAL! Broxburn are level. A deep cross from the left by Marcus Lavery bounces in the box before Jon Robertson heads high into the net.

A huge moment of controversy on fifty-five minutes. Andy Rodden is fouled, but Broxburn play on. Scott McRory Irving’s cross finds Errol Douglas who with a great finish finds the net. But just as he about to make contact with  the ball, referee Stirling blows his whistle for the foul. Fair play to the referee who was first to put his hand up today he got it wrong. Doesn’t happen often. Very frustrating, nonetheless. Andy Rodden takes the resulting free kick from the right has too much on the cross.

On sixty-two minutes, Hearts B make two changes. Henry James and Bobby McLuckie replace Taylor Hogarth & Josh Radcliffe.

On sixty-three minutes, Chris O’ Kane nods on a ball forward that looks to be bread and butter for Hearts skipper Kai Smutek, but he doesn’t put enough on the header back and Jamie Docherty gets to the ball, he spots Jamie McDonald of his line and attempts the lob the Hearts keeper, but McDonald manages to catch it.

On sixty-seven minutes, Chris O’ Kane was booked for a foul on Henry James.

Felt we deserved all three points today. The goal that was brought back puts us 4-2 up at that point and feel that is game over. But we are now undefeated in three for the Badgers and climb up to eight position in the Lowland League.

Next up for the Badgers was a trip along the M8 as we played Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill on Tuesday evening.

Albion Rovers are in yellow shirts, red shorts and yellow socks. Broxburn Athletic are in their changed all navy kits. Broxburn Athletic make one change from the side that defeated Cowdenbeath 2-1 at Central Park, last Saturday. In comes Louis Kennedy who replaces Robbie McGale. Hosts Albion Rovers make two changes to their South of Scotland cup exit, against Throniewood United at Cliftonhill last Saturday. In comes Devan McColl and Nathan Brown who replace Barry Campbell & Sam Duruh.

GOAL! Broxburn have an early lead. Jon Robertson picks up on the right and plays a ball forward to Louis Kennedy. The Broxburn wingers cross is half cleared as far as Jamie Docherty, who takes a touch before scoring into the left corner.

 GOAL! What a start for the Badgers. Jon Robertson plays it infield to Kyle Bell who drives forward, before playing in Louis Kennedy. Kennedy’s shot is palmed away by Albion keeper Alfie Halliwell. The loose ball is half cleared by Devan McColl as far as Jamie Docherty who scores a great finish on the half volley that kisses the bar on the way in.

 On eighteen minutes, Scott McRory Irving is first in referee’s Regan Wallace for a foul on Albion midfielder Barry Duncan.

On twenty-four minutes, Kyle Bell plays a long ball down the right in the direction of Louis Kennedy. Albion Rovers keeper, Alfie Halliwell bravely comes of his line and heads out for a Broxburn throw in.

Unfortunately, Albion Rovers skipper Alan Reid can’t continue due to injury and is replaced by Barry Campbell on twenty-five minutes. Hopefully its not to serious and we wish Alan all the best.

Next in the book is Broxburn midfielder Kyle Bell for a foul on Albion’s Grant Marchant on twenty-six minutes. On twenty-seven minutes, Jon Robertson’s whipped ball in is half cleared by Albion Rovers, as far as Jamie Docherty whose shot this time is over the bar.

On thirty-three minutes, Jamie Docherty wins possession at the halfway line on the left. He spots keeper Halliwell of his line and decides to have a shot. It lacks power and Halliwell manages to get to it. On thirty-four minutes, Marcus Lavery chases down a through ball from Kyle Bell down the left. He cuts it back for Jamie Docherty who shoots over the bar.

On thirty-seven minutes, Albion Rovers full back Euan Bowie is very lucky not to be booked for a pull-on Louis Kennedy. The referee gives him a stern talking too. On thirty-eight minutes, Errol Douglas holds the ball up and plays in Chris O’Kane, who is through on goal. O’ Kane goes down under the challenge from Rovers full back Bowie, but referee Wallace is having none of it and gives Rovers the free kick.

Albion’s Alfie Lumsden is booked on forty minutes for taking the ball away as Broxburn were about to take a free kick. Bang on 45 minutes, a Barry Duncan shot from outside the box deflects wide of the left-hand post.

We head over to Fife this weekend to take on Cowdenbeath in the Lowland League.

Cowdenbeath are in blue shirts, white shorts and red socks. Broxburn Athletic are in their changed kits, Gold and black strips, black shorts and black and gold socks. Broxburn Athletic make two changes to the team that was defeated 5-0 from Linlithgow Rose at Prestonfield last Saturday. In come Jamie Docherty and Scott McRory-Irving who replace Shaun Brown & Louis Kennedy in the starting eleven. Cowdenbeath make one change from their 1-1 draw against Clydebank last Saturday. Ex Broxburn striker Darren Downie replaces Zach Tomany.

GOAL! Cowden take the lead. A Stuart McDowell corner on the right is half cleared by Broxburn’s Chris O’Kane. McDowell picks up the loose ball and his cross is headed home by Cowdenbeath captain Jack Denham.

On eight minutes, Broxburn Athletic defender Greg Page plays a dangerous ball into the box, but Errol Douglas heads wide of the right-hand post. On sixteen minutes, a free kick by Greg Page over on the right is saved. On seventeen minutes, a corner by Jamie Docherty is half cleared by Cowdenbeath as far as Marcus Lavery who puts his effort over from distance. On twenty-one minutes, a shot by Jon Robertson is over the bar.

On twenty-five minutes, Jamie Docherty does well to find Scott McRory Irving wide left. McRory Irving’s cross finds Errol Douglas in the box. Just as he is about to shoot, Cowdenbeath defender Harvey Petrie makes an important tackle. On twenty-eight minutes, a stinging shot by Jamie Docherty is saved by Cowdenbeath keeper Owen Hayward.

On thirty-one minutes, Greg Page is booked for something said to the referee. On thirty-six minutes, Broxburn’s Jamie Docherty and Cowdenbeath’s Conley Adamson for a pushing and shoving match at the touch line.

On forty minutes, Broxburn take a quick free kick on the left, Scott McRory Irving plays the 1-2 with Jamie Docherty. McRory Irving picks up and from distance shoots, but his effort is clawed over by Cowdenbeath keeper Owen Hayward.
