BROXBURN ATHLETIC V CAMELON

Last night, we turned our attention to the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup Semi Final fixture against Camelon at Albyn Park.

Broxburn are in their traditional home kits of red and white shirts, white shorts and red and white socks. Visitors Camelon are in all navy-blue kits with red trim.

Broxburn Athletic make four changes to last Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Civil Service Strollers. In comes Jack McConnell, Greg Page, Kyle Bell and Errol Douglas. They replace Greg Page, Leo Easdon, Robbie Hamilton and Jamie Docherty. Camelon make two changes to last weekend’s draw with Dunipace. In comes Sean Burns and Zander Miller for Scott Sinclair and Ross Kavanagh.

Right from kick off Broxburn threaten. A long ball forward is half cleared as far as Errol Douglas whose shot deflects over the bar.

Visitors Camelon come close to taking the lead on five minutes, good play by their captain Jason Walton who drives down the right and his cross is cleared of the line by Broxburn’s Sam Gormley. On eleven minutes, an ambitious shot from distance by Camelon’s Zander Miller is way wide of the left-hand post.

Broxburn have had a lot of possession in the early stages. The wind is a having a huge effect on the football being played for both teams so far.

GOAL! Camelon take the lead on twenty-seven minutes. From a free kick, Nathan Wade finds the bottom right corner. Very good finish.

GOAL! Broxburn equaliser on thirty-six minutes. Luke Watkins cross is half cleared as far as Scott McCrory-Irving whose shot finds right corner for 1-1.

GOAL! Camelon retake the lead on forty-two minutes. Zander Miller does well to get to the byline. His cross over from the right finds Jack Breen who heads home unmarked at the back post for 2-1 Camelon, just before the half time break.

Half Time (2-1 Camelon)

Broxburn are forced into a change at the half time break. Gallagher Lennon replaces Robbie McGale.

On fifty minutes, a shot outside the box is saved by Camelon keeper Dean Shaw. Errol Douglas plays a good ball wide right to the advances Luke Watkins, who wins a corner of the Camelon centre back. The resulting corner taken by Scott McCrory Irving is well defended by Declan Fitzpatrick who heads clear for the visitors.

On fifty-three minutes, Luke Watkins is booked for a foul on Jack Breen.

Camelon’s Graham Taylor drives forward, and his shot is palmed wide by Broxburn Athletic keeper Jack McConnell on fifty-five minutes. The resulting corner finds Declan Fitzpatrick whose header is cleared of the line by Gallagher Lennon. Two minutes later, a Camelon corner falls to Ben Scarborogh who hits the bar.

Broxburn make a change on fifty-eight minutes. Jamie Docherty replaces Alasdair Shrive.

Big chance for Camelon on sixty-five minutes. Ben Scarborough plays in Zander Miller who is through with just the keeper to beat, but Jack McConnell makes a brilliant save.

On sixty-nine minutes, Luke Watkins shot is saved by Camelon goalie Dean Shaw.

Next in the book is Camelon’s Nathan Wade for a pull-on Kyle Bell.

Broxburn make another change on seventy minutes. Nick Locke replaces Luke Watkins.

On seventy-two minutes. A shot by Kyle Bell is wide of target.

Camelon make a substitution on seventy-three minutes. Ross Kavanagh replaces Zander Miller.

GOAL! Camelon grab a third on seventy-six minutes. A long ball forward By Dean Shaw is collected by Ross Kavanagh who drives forward before finding the bottom left corner with a good finish.

A shot by Scott McCrory Irving deflects for a corner. The resulting corner falls to Errol Douglas is way wide of target.

Camelon’s Graham Taylor is booked for a foul on eighty-three minutes. He is followed by Broxburn’s Kyle Bell, who shows his  frustration with a jersey pull on a Camelon player.

On ninety-four minutes. A corner from Scott McCrory-Irving is headed over from Marcus Lavery.

Not a good day at the office for us tonight. Camelon wanted it way more than us from kick off and deserved the win. Wish them all the best in the final and for the rest of the season.

This week, we took on local rivals Whitburn in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup Quarter Final at Albyn Park.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits, red and white strips, white shorts with red and white socks. Visitors Whitburn are in their traditional Claret and amber shirts with claret shorts and socks.

Broxburn make three changes to the team that defeated Berwick Rangers 5-0 at Shielfield Park last Saturday.  In comes, Bob Watt, Jon Robertson and Jamie Docherty, who replace Matty McDonald, Alisdair Shrive and Jack McConnell. Whitburn make four changes to last weeks 5-4 win over Camelon at Central Park. In comes Frankie Aitchison, Darren Liddell, Andrew Thomson and Paul Gillespie. They replace Ethan Kerr, Andy Black, Harry McMartin & Sam Nicolson in the starting eleven.

After Broxburn dominated early possession, on six minutes, Whitburn get the ball up the park to Ross Crawford, but Marcus Lavery gets his foot in and the ball  flies towards his own goal, with Bob Watt making a good save, with the ball falling to Aiden McAvoy whose shot is blocked by Sam Gormley.

On fourteen minutes, Broxburn should be ahead. A cross from Robbie McGale finds Errol Douglas who puts his effort over the bar from close range.

Whitburn come close on twenty minutes, Darren Liddell nods it on for Ross Crawford, whose shot is well saved by Bob Watt, who comes of his line and makes a good block.

On twenty-five minutes, a long ball forward by Greg Page finds Jamie Docherty, who finds Chris O’ Kane in space. Kano’s shot is well saved by Whitburn keeper Danny Farrell, who pushed it wide for a corner. GOAL! Broxburn open the scoring on twenty six minutes,  a corner from the left by Robbie McGale is headed home by Jon Robertson.

 On twenty-nine minutes, Jamie Docherty finds Kyle Bell in space, whose low powerful shot is well saved by Whitburn keeper Danny Farrell.

GOAL! Broxburn have a second on thirty one minutes. Robbie McGale does well to get to the byline. He cuts it back for Errol Douglas who picks out Chris O’ Kane. Kano scores high into the net.

A shot by Robbie McGale from distance is over the bar on thirty-three minutes. On thirty-five minutes, Jamie Docherty’s dangerous cross from the left is cleared as far as Chris O’ Kane whose effort is over the bar.

On thirty-seven minutes, Chris O’ Kane is booked for a foul on Lennon Watson.

Next in the referee’s book is Whitburn’s Alex Webb for a foul on Kyle Bell on forty-two minutes.

A minute later, a deep cross by Greg Page finds Errol Douglas whose header hit the bar.

HALF TIME (2-0 Broxburn Athletic)

On forty-eight minutes, Aiden McAvoy’s shot is palmed away by Broxburn keeper Bob Watt, with Darren Liddell scoring the rebound but his goal was quickly chopped off for offside. Looked onside at the time and the VEO confirmed it was onside! On fifty-two minutes, Whitburn’s Andy Thomson makes a great sliding tackle on Robbie McGale, putting Aiden McAvoy through on goal. His shot is well saved by Bob Watt and on the rebound McAvoy goes down under a Greg Page challenge, but referee Spalony waves play on.

Up the other end a minute later, an Errol Douglas shot is saved by the feet of Whitburn keeper Danny Farrell. On fifty-five minutes, Errol Douglas uses his strength to get away from Whitburn centre back Zac McGoldrick and is through on goal with just keeper Farrell to beat, but his effort kisses the outside of the post and goes wide.

Whitburn make the first change of the day on fifty-five minutes. Ethan Kerr replaced Lennon Watson.

Good one touch football by the visitors on fifty-nine minutes. Liddell does well to create space, playing a good one-two with Aiden McAvoy, whose shot is pushed wide by Bob Watt for a corner. On sixty-one minutes, a long Whitburn free kick from the right finds Zac McGoldrick whose header rattles the bar.  On sixty-four minutes, Kyle Bell is fouled and stays down. Unfortunately, Kyle can’t continue. He has been vital for the club since joining and let’s hope it isn’t as serious as it looked, Whitburn’s Callum Bremner is booked for the foul.

Broxburn make a double change on sixty five minutes. Scott McRory Irving and Matty McDonald replace the injured Kyle Bell and Chris O’ Kane

Another double change on seventy nine minutes for Broxburn. Luke Watkins and Nick Locke replace Robbie Hamilton and Jamie Docherty.

On eighty-nine minutes, Scott McRory Irving’s shot is over the bar for Broxburn. Deep into injury time, a Nick Locke shot is wide of target.

Broxburn Athletic progress into the semi final of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup. Good first half, not the best second. All the best to Whitburn for the rest of the season.

We returned to Albyn Park on Saturday, where we host St Andrews United in the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup Third Round.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits. Red and White shirts, white shorts and red and white socks. Visitors St Andrews are in all blue kits.

Broxburn Athletic make four changes to the side that lost 2-0 to Bonnyrigg Rose last Saturday in the Lowland League. In comes Bob Watt, Robbie Hamilton & Errol Douglas, who replace Jack McConnell, Chris O’ Kane and Greg Page. St Andrews United make two changes from last week’s 3-2 away win against Bo’ness Athletic. In comes David Maskrey & Lewis Craik who replaces Luke Murray & Cammy Graham.

St Andrews United created the first chance of the match on five minutes. Lewis Milne’s throw-in down the right flank finds Greig Spence who gets away from Jon Robertson and his cross finds Alex McReadie who skies his shot over the bar.

On seven minutes, Broxburn create their first half chance of the game. Ali Shrive plays a ball forward to Jamie Docherty whose eventual shot is over the bar.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. A Robbie McGale corner on the right finds Ali Shrive who scores at the front post. It took a while for the spectators to realise it was a goal, as it hit the bar behind the goal and out, no net movement at all. 1-0 Broxburn!

On thirty-nine minutes, a shot by St Andrews skipper Ryan McManus is way wide from distance.

GOAL! Broxburn equalise! Jamie Docherty wins a hard 50/50 challenge and drives forward; he plays a good ball into the feet of Robbie Hamilton who scores low into the right corner.

 GOAL! Broxburn score their seventh. Marcus Lavery wins possession and finds Luke Watkins, who drives forward down the left. Watkins finds Kyle Bell who plays in Matty McDonald. McDonald’s strike is blocked and is headed down by Luke Watkins back into the path of McDonald who takes a great touch before firing it into the right corner.

Broxburn Athletic make four changes to the team that defeated Gretna 2008 4-2 in the Lowland League last Saturday. There is a debut for our new keeper Jack McConnell and starts for Luke Morris, Ewan MacPherson & Alisdair Shrive. They replace Bob Watt, Jon Robertson, Jamie Docherty and Scott McRory-Irving in the starting eleven. Our visitors Arniston Rangers make no changes to the side that defeated Stirling University 2-0 at Newtyles Park last Saturday.

Broxburn are in their traditional home kits, red and white shirts, white socks and red and white socks. Arniston Rangers are in blue with black trim shirts with blue shorts and socks.

First chance of the match comes for the hosts on two minutes. Robbie McGale advances down the right and his cross hits off Arniston’s Dylan Waugh and hits the bar. The referee awarded the visitors a free kick after a foul in the box by Errol Douglas on Arniston keeper Aaron Heap.

On five minutes, a corner by Jamie Scobie is right on new Broxburn keeper Jack McConnell who manages to punch it away, it falls to Sam Dickson whose shot deflects for another corner. The resulting corner taken by Robert McKenzie hits the bar and goes out for a Broxburn throw in right at the corner flag.

On nineteen minutes, A good ball forward down the right wing By Robbie McGale finds Errol Douglas and Ewan MacPherson through, but Arniston keeper Aaron Heap reads it well, and comes off his line to clear. On twenty minutes, a shot by Luke Watkins down the left is saved by McConnell. On twenty-one minutes, a Sam Gormley long ball finds Kyle Bell in on goal, but again Arniston goalie Heap reads it well, wins the header and clears his lines. On twenty-three minutes, a cross by Robbie McGale finds Errol Douglas who puts his shot over the bar.

Broxburn are struggling to break down this high and organised Arniston Rangers defensive line.

On twenty-six minutes, Alisdair Shrive plays in Luke Watkins whose shot is saved by Aaron Heap.

GOAL! Arniston Rangers take the lead! A shot by Jamie Scobie is saved and the ball falls to Jamie Devlin who slots home for the opening goal of the game.

Shrive passes wide to Luke Watkins who plays a great one-two with Bell before winning Broxburn a corner. On fifty-six minutes, a corner by Robbie McGale finds Greg Page at the back post who hits the side netting.

First chance falls to Broxburn on nine minutes. Chris O’ Kane wins the loose ball finding, Jamie Docherty. The Broxburn winger drives into the box and finds Errol Douglas, whose shot is narrowly wide of the left-hand post. On fifteen minutes, Nick Locke is fouled just outside the box by Heriot Watt’s Robbie Logan. Locke steps up to take the free kick, but his effort is over the bar.

On 17 minutes, Heriot Watt create their first chance of the match. Eoghan Mullholland plays a good ball down the right for Robbie Logan. Logan’s cuts it back to the advanced Mullholland whose shot looks to be finding the bottom left corner, but Sam Gormley makes an important block.

On twenty minutes, Greg Page plays a great cross field ball for Nick Locke on the right. Locke feeds in Jamie Docherty who looks to be fouled, but referee Pow plays on.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead. Jamie Docherty’s flick is headed on by Errol Douglas finding Chris O’ Kane whose header on finds Ewan MacPherson. MacPherson’s shot is blocked by Heriot Watt keeper Diego Sanchez, sending the ball into the air. It comes down on the head of Chris O’ Kane who heads on again to Ewan MacPherson who this time forces it over the line for the opening goal of the game.

Another change for Heriot Watt on eighty-one minutes, Darcy Munro replaces Robbie Logan.

On eighty-three minutes, Greg Page played a long ball forward feeding in Shaun Brown, whose shot is saved. The wee man has another chance three minutes later that he puts over the bar.
