We travelled to Broadwood on Saturday to take on Cumbernauld Colts in the Lowland League.

Cumbernauld Colts are in yellow shirts, blue shorts and yellow socks, while Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional kits, red and white shirts, white shorts and red and white socks.

Broxburn Athletic make two changes from the team that defeated Cowdenbeath last Saturday 3-0 at Albyn Park. In comes Gallagher Lennon & Chris O’ Kane who replace Alasdair Shrive and Marcus Lavery in the starting eleven.

Hosts Cumbernauld Colts make four changes to last week Scottish Cup home defeat to Bonnyrigg Rose. In comes Cameron Dickson, Jack Devlin, Scott Walker and Finn McGuigan. They replace JJ Stevenson, Abraham Osemeke, Josh Farquhar and Lyle Hunter.

It’s the visitors who create the first chance of the match on nine minutes. Kyle Bell drives down the left wing; he accelerates towards goal and picks out Jamie Docherty with a good pass. Docherty’s shot is palmed wide by Cumbernauld keeper Harry Broun.

On twenty minutes, Kyle Bell is booked for a simulation as he goes down in the box under a challenge from Colt’s midfielder Scott Walker.

On thirty-two minutes, a low deflected shot by Colts number seven Josh Jack is saved by Broxburn keeper Jack McConnell.

On thirty-six minutes, a corner by Robbie McGale finds Sam Gormley at the back post who heads over the bar, but the referee blows for a foul. On thirty-eight minutes, a free kick by Robbie McGale from the left is headed over by Jon Robertson.

Cumbernauld win possession from some slack Broxburn play, it worked to Jack Devlin who shoots over the bar for the hosts on forty one minutes.

On forty-six minutes, Cumbernauld Colts are awarded a free kick in a dangerous position after Greg Page fouls Colt’s striker Finn McGuigan and is shown a yellow card.

GOAL! From the resulting free kick. Josh Jack finds the bottom right corner with a good strike.

Broxburn started the second half the better of the two sides. Robbie McGale does well to work the cross from the left that is cleared by Liam Allison. On fifty-four minutes, Scott McRory-Irving’s ball forward is just ahead of Chris O’ Kane.

Next in the referee’s book is Cameron Dickson for a foul on Chris O’ Kane on fifty-six minutes.

Cumbernauld Colts make a change on fifty-nine minutes. JJ Stevenson replaces Billy Mortimer.

On the hour mark, a shot by Scott McRory-Irving is well blocked by Colt’s midfielder Scott Walker. A Greg Page shot from distance is way over the bar on sixty-two minutes.

A shot by Jamie Docherty is pushed wide by Cumbernauld Colts keeper Harry Broun on sixty-eight minutes. The resulting corner taken by Robbie McGale is pushed over by Broun.

Double Substitution for Cumbernauld Colts on seventy minutes. Josh Farquhar & Lyle Hunter replace Finn McGuigan & Scott Walker.

Broxburn Substitution (76 Minutes)

Cumbernauld Colts make another double change on seventy-eight minutes. Connor Falls & Abraham Osemeke replace Josh Jack & Jack Devlin.

Huge chance for a Broxburn equaliser on eighty-five minutes. A long ball forward by Gallagher Lennon finds Kyle Bell whose shot hits the post and the loose ball falls for Errol Douglas who fires his shot over the bar.

Up the other end Colts come close. Marcus Lavery’s pass doesn’t have enough on it and Connor Falls flies forward down the right. His ball over for Abraham Osemeke has too much on it. On ninety minutes, a shot by Josh Farquar is saved by Jack McConnell.

 Not the best performance from Broxburn today. Had good spells in the first half but didn’t do enough to take anything from the game.
