After last week’s exploits it was back to league duty and Whitehill were the first to have a crack at goal but Scott Wright fired wildly over the bar after two minutes . Broxburn carved open the visiting defence before a Conor Kelly shot was deflected for a corner .which came to nothing .The game was needing a spark to bring it to life but nothing was happening in the danger area for either side . Twenty minutes in and a throw in on the left saw Gordon Donaldson receive the ball but his effort went over the bar . Half way through the half Ross Nimmo put a teasing ball across the box but there were no takers . Broxburn created a couple of half chances but the visiting defence eventually cleared the danger . The best chance of the game so far cam on 29 minutes when Ross Nimmo put a great ball in from the right which Alexander Miller headed just over the bar . Greg Binnie made a good run into the left hand side of the box before firing just past the right hand post . The goal came in bizarre fashion  on 36 minutes. When Conor Kelly floated a ball into the box it was too near the keeper on the goal line but inexplicitly Youssef Bejaoui  , the big Whitehill Welfare keeper dropped an easy catch and ALEXANDER MILLER was there to prod the ball home from four yards . The only other chance of the half fell to Kelly on 40 minutes after good play but the striker’s effort went over the target .

Whitehill came out the second half in determined mood and early on forced a corner that came to nothing when played into the box . With 50 minutes on the clock Broxburn had a great chance to give themselves a cushion when Nicholas Locke made his way into the box from the right he was bundled to the ground .Alexander Miller who made no mistake from the spot last week stepped up but this time Youssef Bejaoui  made a great save diving to his left to turn the ball over the bar to keep his side in the game . Ryan McCallum should have done better when forcing his way into the box but his effort went wide . Not for the first time in the game on 57 minutes Ross Nimmo put a great ball across the box but found no taker’s . Half way through the half a good ball to Miller from Binnie out on the left and the striker tried to bend the ball from the left into the right hand side of the goal but could not bend the ball enough and it went wide right . Good play by Cameron Ross down the left saw him send a ball across the face of goal it was cleared out to Nicholas Locke who saw his shot from 22 yards out shave the cross bar on the way over . Whitehill created a good opportunity on 73 minutes when Scott Wright fired a shot from the right hand side of the box past the left hand post . Two minutes later a long ball out of defence for the visitors sent Ryan McCallum beyond the home back line ,but the ball was just a bit too hard and Conor Wallace who had come out to the edge of his box gathered the ball just in time . John Grant set Locke up with five minutes remaining but his captain shot over the bar . Ross Nimmo shot over the bar in the last minute while of balance . Three points in the bag against a good side fortunate or not we take them and move on to Dunbar on Tuesday with a 7-30pm kick off

Zander Miller’s dramatic hat trick winner paved the way for Broxburn Athletic to advance through to the second round of the William Hill Scottish Cup at the expense of East Stirlingshire.

Nicholas Locke put the afterburners on in the first minute to set the tempo and won a free kick as a result, but the resulting effort sailed over the bar.

Two minutes later, Miller made history by becoming the first ever Broxburn Athletic player to score in the Scottish Cup first round. The centre forward was able to slot past Jamie Barclay to give Athletic the start they were dreaming of.

Shire quickly began to set their mark on the game, and the visitors began to probe the Athletic defence. Athletic held their ground and kept plugging away at their more established counterparts.

In the 15th minute, their hard work was rewarded after a foul on Connor Kelly led to Athletic receiving a penalty, which Miller duly swept home. It could not have started any better for the home side.

Shire began to dictate the pace and while attempts were not initially forthcoming, they gradually began to come into the game. Connor Wallace was called into action for the first time in the 20th minute when he palmed away a promising shot from Evan Horne’s free kick.

Another free kick, this time aimed low, from Shire hit the wall and Wallace grabbed onto a ball headed by Jamie Dishington from the resulting corner. A well worked set piece from the visitors led to a stramash in the box and a corner conceded, but Grant’s header flew harmlessly over.

Shire continued to pile on the pressure and Wallace was forced to react quickly when Bobby Barr went one-on-one, with the Athletic keeper making his body big enough to parry the ball away for a corner. Athletic were resolute in the onslaught and kept the visitors at bay.

However Shire were rewarded for their patience after Nicky Low glided a sumptuous free kick over the wall and past Wallace to reduce the deficit in the 41st minute. Cameron Ross tried to immediately respond but his shot was easily saved by Barclay. The first half finished with Athletic in the lead but feeling the heat from their experienced counterparts.

Shire continued where they left off as Sean Brown, who came on for Horne at half time, sent two headers over the bar, the second diving attempt came inches from edging past Wallace. Miller’s pressing forced the defender to punt the ball out, but the corner came to nothing.

Barr’s terrific pass to Flynn left Wallace stranded in no man’s land but Athletic came up with a last ditch clearance to keep the visitors from becoming level. Shire continued to probe but were unable to breach the net.

Athletic won a corner thanks to some tremendous pressing on goalkeeper Barclay but an attempt from Gordon Donaldson came to nothing. The visitors responded with Dishington and Brown both trying to steer the ball into the net from a deflected corner, but still could not get the goal they craved.

Dogged defending from Grant Gavin and Donaldson continued to frustrate Shire, and Kelly came close to extending the lead when his volley forced Barclay to palm out for a corner. Shaun Harrison was unable to capitalise with his header however.

Greg Binnie almost made his presence felt after coming on by sending a lofted ball through for Miller to chase for his hat trick which went wide, and fellow sub Ross Nimmo capitalised on a Shire defensive mix up to to trickle past the side netting also.

The fresh legs enabled Athletic to get up the park with Miller and Nimmo getting some joy. Locke’s game came to an early end however with Craig Scott coming on for the injured midfielder.Heartbreak soon came Athletic’s way however, as Rodgers – who had been booked just two minutes before – sent his tight shot off the post across the line on the 85th minute. It seemed as if we were heading for a replay at a later date, until further drama unfolded.Athletic were not to be denied, as a 90th minute long ball played in Miller who lifted the ball over Barclay to seal his hat trick and send Broxburn Athletic through to the second round of the Scottish Cup. The ecstatic scenes afterwards were a sight to behold.

From the depths of despair to the joy of jubilation.

The first half took a while to get going and the first opportunity did not happen until the 13th minute when Ross Nimmo chased a ball through beat the defender and cut back to Cameron Ross who shot wide left of the goals . Two minutes later good build up play saw a good ball out right to Greg Binnie who’s good ball into the box was cut out and held by Kieran McDougal in the visitors goal . The opening goal came on eighteen minutes when SCOTT RICHARDS intercepted a pass out of defence and from twenty five yards out he fired home giving the keeper no chance . On 21 minutes Aiden Kemp made room just inside the box that Connor Wallace saved at his near post before Donaldson cleared for a corner .Just past half way of the first half Ross Nimmo saw a shot deflect for a corner and when the corner came in ,home debutant John Grant saw a header go wide left of the target . Ross Nimmo turned well on 34 minutes but his shot was deflected for a corner . Great play between Scott Richards and Cameron Ross saw the later force a great save from Kieran McDougal .

Early in the second half Ross Watters got into the box on the right and cut a ball across the six yard box but there were no takers for his good ball in .Two minutes later on 53 minutes Broxburn doubled their lead when Scott Richards fired a ball across from the right and it went straight through to GREG BINNIE six yards out and he turned the ball home . Edinburgh University got back in the game on 63 minutes when a slick move ended with AIDEN KEMP receiving the ball wide right and he cut into the box and fired home giving Wallace no chance . Right away at the other end Ross Nimmo headed a chance of the post and it rebounded across the goals before being cleared . From the corner the ball was cleared out to Gavin Grant who’s shot was deflected over from the edge of the box . Alexander Miller shot over the bar on 65 minutes . Ross Nimmo made a good strong run down the right before the defence cleared just before he entered the box . The tie was over in 74 minutes when a long ball was headed back towards his keeper by STUART MacFARLANE  but his keeper had advanced off his line and it sailed into the net with Miller making sure it did . The final chance in the last minute fell to Miller who saw a looping header saved under his bar by McDougal  . A good scalp from the Lowland league in what was a comfortable win .This set us up for next weeks William Hill Scottish cup tie against East Stirlingshire . We expect a tougher match and will have several of the missing squad back giving the manager a headache as the way the players available played to day .

Broxburn almost made the dream start in only three minutes when a Scott Richards shot struck a defenders arm and the referee had no doubt it was hand to ball and awarded the penalty .Scott Richards lined up and his effort struck the post and was cleared from the danger zone . Daniel Greig put a good ball across the box but there were no takers for the visitors and the ball went out for a bye kick . Nicholas Locke saw an effort cleared for a corner after 11 minutes with good build up play on the right . Jordan Smith thought he would try an effort from 30 yards out but the ball sailed over the bar and never troubled Connor Wallace in the home goal . Just before the half hour mark a great move sent Jack Beesley clear but the ball through to him was just too strong as it ran away from him . Tynecastle thought they had scored when a ball into the box was saved by Wallace and when it broke to the visitors attack Wallace again scooped the ball of the line and the defenders cleared the danger .Two minutes later on 39 minutes a corner into the box was met by the head of Jordan Smith but his effort went just over the bar . With five minutes remaining of the first half a great run by Binnie down the left before he switched to Locke who saw his effort deflected for a corner . Andrew Gillen created two chances for team mates in the dying minutes when , firstly his ball in to Richards saw the later’s effort blocked and cleared and then in the last minute his ball in to Binnie was just too high for him to get his head on to .

The game burst into life five minutes into the second half when Greg Binnie sent a ball into the box it was met at the back post by GORDON DONALDSON who headed into the top left hand corner . Three minutes later Wallace had to look lively as Ryan Stevenson put a ball across his box that the keeper gathered before any Tynecastle forwards got there . On the hour mark Jack Beesley sent a thirty yard free kick towards the goals and saw it crash off the bar and away . Half way through the half Michael Barfoot for the visitors made room for a shot 30 yards out that went high over the target . Gordon Donaldson made a good move before cutting the ball across the box but no one could turn the ball into the net . Locke shot over the bar narrowly with eleven minutes remaining. The tie was effectively over shortly after as Beesley received the ball from Conor Kelly wide right and he slipped it to NICHOLAS LOCKE who hammered the ball home . A minute later Locke turned and shot and Murray Jackson tipped the ball over for a corner . Conor Kelly will be annoyed at his effort on 83 minutes after receiving the ball from Cameron Ross he miss hit the ball straight at the keeper  giving him no trouble at all.

The third goal did come when Greg Binnie  put a great ball In to CONOR KELLY  who scored from the right hand side of the box . NICHOLAS LOCKE got his second and his side’s fourth when Beesley passed to him over thirty yards out and he sent a rocket past Murray Jackson in the visitor’s goal .In the last minute Cameron Ross sent Greg Binnie free one on one with the keeper and as the keeper came out Greg hit it past his right hand side but the ball agonisingly hit the right hand post and the defence got back to clear .   A comfortable win in the end and a boost going into the William Hill Scottish cup next week at Girvan .

With so much at stake ,it was no surprise both sides started cagily but the hosts opened the scoring in 10 minutes when a loose ball out f defence was picked up by Nicholas Locke who ran forward and when most thought he would strike he laid the ball off to his right to CONOR KELLY just inside the box and he took a touch before firing home the opener . Two minutes later a good ball into the home defence was headed goal ward by Taylor Hendry but Connor Wallace held comfortably . A long ball through on sixteen minutes found Alexander Miller but his shot went over the bar . A minute later at the other end Taylor Hendry saw a shot blocked and cleared . End to end stuff as Donaldson then put a great ball in from the left which found Miller’s head but it went over the bar . The second goal did come a minute later when Jack Beesley’s free kick in to the box from the left sailed over everybody and found ALEXANDER MILLER who steered his header across the goal into the far side of the net . On 27 minutes Miller weaved his way into the box before shooting wide of the target . A minute later a ball into the hosts box was met by Kenny O’Brien  who fired a shot towards goal the Connor Wallace had to be at his best to turn behind for a corner . Just after the half hour mark a good ball into the box found Shaun Harrison but he could not get any power or direction on his header as it went wide left of the target . With 36 minutes on the clock a free kick wide left about 30 yards out by Jordan Hopkinson went wide right of the target with Wallace having his goal covered .The game was still swinging from end to end and a great move from the home side saw Conor Kelly force a good save from Murray Jackson . The last chance of the half came when Gordon Donaldson crossed from the left but Kelly headed wide right .

In the first minute of the second half Conor Kelly made a good run down the left and his shot crashed off the corner of the bar and post .The rebound fell to Beesley who crossed to Miller who’s header was saved . Michael Barfoot shot over the bar on 48 minutes . On 53 minutes Euan Greig made room on the edge of the box but the full back shot over from 20 yards out . Craig Scott saw a shot go over the bar on the hour mark . Jordan Smith got into the box for the visitors but Wallace saved his shot . Half way through the half Miller thought he had added the third but despite a good move it was disallowed for offside . A couple of minutes later Broxburn hit the woodwork again and it was cleared for a corner . With 76 minutes gone Ross Nimmo put a great ball in to Miller who scooped the ball over the bar from eight yards . Craig Scott saw an effort deflected for a corner two minutes later .Greg Binnie sent a corner in from the left on 79 minutes that went past everybody and was cleared of the line at the back post by Barfoot . With the game petering out with four minutes left Locke  set up Miller who shot over Greg Binnie headed wide of the target from a Nimmo cross . In the last embers of the game Greg Binnie was through one on one with the keeper but Murray Jackson saved well to protect his goal . A comfortable win though Tynecastle had their moments .A place in the next round away to Girvan in three weeks reward for the win and one to look forward to .

A good crowd anticipated a cracking opening game to the season saw a share of the spoils which was fair over the ninety minutes .Shaun Harrison fired in a free kick slightly from the right about thirty yards out but it went straight through to the keeper who grabbed it out the air comfortably on four minutes . Stuart Hunter put a good ball from the left into the back of the six yard area but Chris Townsley headed clear for a corner . Thomas Grant made room central about 25 yards out to fire a shot in that sailed over the bar . half way through the half a good break for the home side broke down when Conor Kelly’s pass out to Andrew Gillen on the right hand side was just too strong for his team mate and the ball went out for a throw in . On the half hour mark good play forced a corner for the home side . The opening goal came in bizarre fashion on 36 minutes , when ANDREW GILLEN gathered the ball out on the right touch line he hit his cross too close to the keeper but with everyone expecting Andrew Murphy to gather easily the big keeper let the ball go through his hands and drop over the line . Grant tried an effort on 42 minutes for the visitors but Connor Wallace had it well covered .

The first opportunity of the second half fell to the hosts when Craig Scott crossed in from the left but Alexander Miller could not get a direction on his header and it went over the bar .Conor Kelly put a ball into the box from the left on 51 minutes but was too strong and the ball sailed well wide of any team mate . A great opportunity for an equaliser came just past the hour mark when Ryan Stevenson cut a ball back into the middle of the box from left on the bye line but the Broxburn defence cleared the danger before any bones player got the chance to hit it . Nicholas Locke shot weakly past the right hand post on 62 minutes . Two minutes later Locke put a good ball in to Miller but the strikers header was saved . Boness thought they had scored on 66 minutes when a ball floated into the six yard box from the right found big defender Stuart Hunter to head home but he was adjudged to have been offside ,much to the annoyance of the visitors . Half way through the half and a ball played across the box sixteen yards out was struck by Mark McKenzie but he saw his shot deflect wide right of the target . The corner came in to the back of the box and was headed back across where Ryan Stevenson glanced his header wide right of the target . The visitors were on level terms on 73 minutes when a ball played into the box from the right was met by the fist of the keeper but unfortunately it fell to RYAN STEVENSON who fired through a crowded box into the net . Broxburn pressed on for a winner and Andrew Gillen set up Locke but his shot was blocked and it would not drop kindly for Miller who was ready to pounce .Ross Nimmo set up Craig Scott with a pass from the left along the edge of the 18 yard box but his shot went wide left of the goals . With five minutes remaining a good ball in from the right by Andrew Gillen was defended well and headed clear of the danger area . With time running out  a Ross Nimmo effort from 20 yards out and central was saved and cleared of the line . One more chance for Nimmo when Scott played him through down the left he tried to lob the advancing keeper but saw his attempt go over the bar .

Broxburn started well within the first minute Greg Binnie made a good run into the box on the right before sending a good cross across the six yard box but was just too much in front of his team mates and the ball went straight through to safety for the visitors . Two minutes later Jack Beasley made good room in the box before sending a good ball into the danger area but again no one in red and whit were there to get on the end of it . The opening goal came on 10 minutes when Cameron Ross went on a run down the left and was brought down as he headed for goal .JACK BEASLEY stepped up to take the free kick wide left and 25 yards out, he fired a great ball into the top left hand corner . With fifteen minutes gone Gordon Donaldson put a great ball to the back post from the left and Greg Binnie knocked it back out to Beasley who’s ball into the box was met by the head of Alexander Miller but he could not find the target and the ball went over the bar . Miller tried an effort from 25 yards out on twenty minutes which Elliot Turnbull saved . Just after the half hour mark a corner into the box found the head of Chris Townsley but the big defender headed wide right of the goals . Beasley was thwarted by Turnbull who was quick to come out and grab the ball just before Beasley in the box . Coldstream’s Craig Heugh tried an effort from thirty yards out but it sailed over the bar not troubling Connor Wallace in the home goals after being in his sick bed all week .  Binnie had the last effort of the half that was deflected for a corner which came to nothing .

Coldstream almost got a goal on 53 minutes when a good ball into the box was eventually cleared by the home defence . On the hour mark Miller made a good run down the right but his shot went over the bar . With 63 minutes on the clock Binnie sent a good ball through to Miller but it was a little to hard allowing the keeper to come and collect the ball . Half way through the second half Binnie played Cameron Ross through down the left and when he cut inside his shot went over the bar .Binnie again created another opening two minutes later but his great ball across the box was a fraction in front of Craig Scott and the ball was cleared . The second goal came on seventy minutes when Cameron Ross played a great ball down the right into the path of JACK BEASLEY  who took a couple of strides forward into the box on the right hand side before firing high into the far top left hand corner of the net . A minute later a Miller attempt was saved comfortably . The visitors got back in the game a minute later when Ben Herdman fired a rocket from thirty yards that crashed of the corner of post and bar bounced down and STUART BRIGGS was first to react to head into the net .Coldstream had their tails up and went looking for a leveller with some mounting pressure . They almost capitilised on 84 minutes when both Donaldson and Wallace went for the same ball on the edge of the box and collided leaving the loose ball that coldstream could not turn into the net . Dominico Gibson saw a shot deflected for a corner and Townsley could not get direction on his header when the ball came in to box . In the last minute Kristian Dixon saw a good run and shot from the lleft come of the left hand post and Craig Purves was first to the loose ball to turn behind for a corner . When the corner came in Ross Straughan saw his header tipped on to the bar from Wallace’s hand and it bounced away from the danger area .

Next round was the target and next round is where we are with an away tie at Tranent to look forward too .

Broxburn kicked off with a strong swirling wind at their backs but it was the Student’s from Stirling who opened the scoring in only three minutes when CALUM HEATH gathered the ball half way inside his opponent’s half and ran through the home defence before firing into the bottom left hand corner from the right hand side of the penalty box .Two minutes later David Collins broke away but fired into the left hand side netting . This was the shake up the home side needed and a minute later Nicholas Locke was through on goal but was brought down but the referee played advantage as the ball ran through and ALEXANDER MILLER got there to fire past Murray Bushell in the visitors goal . A minute later Craig Scott tried a shot from 25 yards out but it took a deflection and went narrowly past the right hand post .Broxburn went in front on seven minutes in the simplest of fashion  when Michael Linton lobbed a ball over the top of the visiting defence and ALEXANDERR MILLER was there to score . Half way through the half and Locke weaved out an opportunity but his final shot went wide left of the target . Scott fired a shot over the bar on 26 minutes . On 34 minutes a loose ball inside the six yard box just would not fall to any of the Broxburn forwards and Bushell managed to gather the loose ball . Euan Bird carved out an opportunity in 38 minutes but Connor Wallace saved comfortably . Cameron Ross tried his luck from just outside the box but his effort went over the bar with five minutes of the half remaining. Miller also fired over the bar with the last opportunity of the half .

Against the wind the second half Broxburn were camped in their opponents half early doors . Miller had a double opportunity on 54 minutes when his first shot was well saved but when it broke back to the striker he fired over the bar .A minute later the same player made his way down the left hand side and into the box but pulled his shot wide right of the far post . With 64 minutes gone Cameron Ross put a teasing ball across from the right and it deceived all before the defence managed to clear from the back post . A minute later the visitors goal scorer tried a shot from thirty yards out that shaved the top of the cross bar  on its way over .Ross Nimmo put a great ball into the mix on the edge of the six yard box but just as Miller was about to shoot Murray Bushell dived at his feet and thwarted the danger . A sigh of relieve was heard when on 74 minutes when a Nimmo ball to the back post found Locke who controlled the ball before laying it back to CRAIG SCOTT to hammer the ball home from the edge of the box . Stirling were not out of it and with ten minutes remaining a ball over the top to Edward Hodges on the right hand side saw him drive into the box and his shot was saved well by Wallace  at the expense of a corner . Broxburn put the points in the bag on 84 minutes when a long ball to Greg binnie on the left was then pulled back to CRAIG SCOTT who fired home past a crowded box into the net . With two minutes remaining a ball into the edge of the box was met by NICHOLAS LOCKE who made good space before firing home past Bushell . A minute later it was six when DOMINICO GIBSON got the ball in the middle of his opponents half before firing a shot past the statues’ keeper  . The score line was maybe a bit harsh on the students but we went about our job professionally and took our chance’s when they came along . That was our last home leagu match and we are rightly proud to have finished undefeated at home in the league . We go on our travels next week to St Andrews  with a 2-30pm kick off . A bus will  be leaving the Albyn Park at 11-45am sharp and if anybody wishes to book a seat they should contact the committee as soon as possible .
