Scottish Cup 1st Round: Dunipace v Broxburn Athletic – 17 September 2022

Broxburn travelled to First Division opponents Dunipace in the 1st round of the Scottish Cup. Broxburn made 4 changes to their starting side from the 4-2 win against Sauchie, Greehhill, Gillen, Henderson and Brass replacing Jeffries, Clark, Churchill and Douglas.

Dunipace kept an unchanged side having also won 4-2 in their last league outing against Kirkcaldy & Dysart.

With a cool breeze behind them Broxburn kicked off. In the 3rd minute from an Orru throw, Brass played a nice pass to Gillen around 25 yards out who elected to pass when a shot may have been a better option.

The home side signalled their intentions a minute later Colley got in behind Orru and made a strong run and his cross found McGuckin at the back post whose shot was well taken by Blair at his right post.

Dunipace continued to look dangerous and in the 7th minute after a mistake from D.Nimmo, Fleming made ground down the left but his cutback was well defended for a corner.

Broxburn were knocking the ball around nicely Brass and R.Nimmo combining well for the latter to cross low which Kane did well to take with Binnie on the premises waiting to capitalise on any mistake.

In the 14th minute the deadlock was broken Herron broke clear on the right and played a brilliant cross into the box where MCGUCKIN was arriving, and his bullet header went flying into the Brox net.

This stung Broxburn into action Brass sending Newall away down the right whose cross found Binnie but the strikers shot was high and wide.

The home side could have doubled their lead on 24 minutes poor defending from a throw in allowed D.Grant to put over a great cutback which fell to McGuckin at the edge of the box but he hit his shot well over the bar.

Broxburn went down the field and went even closer Binnie cracking a great drive off the right-hand post.

In a great passing move a minute later Broxburn pulled level R.Nimmo finding BRASS in the box who controlled and fired a shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

The Brox had grown into the game now and from an exquisite Greenhill crossfield pass R.Nimmo slung in a cross which home keeper Kane did very well to take under strong pressure from Brass.

Donaldson needed attention in 33 minutes after a clash with Grant.

In 37 minutes Binnie was brought down by McCroary just outside the box, Henderson took the free kick which was on target which Kane stopped but dropped the ball which was scrambled clear by the home defence.

In first half injury time D.Grant was booked for a poor challenge on Blair.

HALF TIME: Dunipace 1 – 1 Broxburn Athletic

In 48 minutes Binnie tried a through ball which looked on the money only for it to hit Henderson on the back.

The home side continued to look dangerous down the flanks McGuckin getting the better of D.Nimmo and the Brox defence scrambling the ball to safety from his cross.

Dunipace were playing a high defensive line Binnie making a good run and pass to find Henderson who cut back inside but didn’t get enough on his shot to trouble Kane.

R.Nimmo was booked in 52 minutes and then subbed for Churchill.

Broxburn were causing the home side problems down both flanks but Henderson couldn’t provide a telling cross.

In 64 minutes Nash replaced Wright for Dunipace.

A minute later Greenhill, who was having a great game for Broxburn, slid a ball through for Binnie who was challenged heavily by keeper Kane just outside the box. Binnie couldn’t continue and was replaced by Douglas with Sayers coming on for Henderson.

In 72 minutes Broxburn continued to press down the right side Brass, Churchill and Newall creating space with the latter’s cross hard and low hacked away for a corner which nothing came of.

Churchill and Newall worked another neat move down the right with the cross causing problems for the home defence but neither Brass or Douglas could get enough purchase on their efforts.

The pressure continued to build on the home defence but they were standing firm with A.Grant and Ashe outstanding.

The route to goal was certainly down the right with Churchill and Newall prominent, with another ball into the box which just wouldn’t fall for Douglas and then cleared.

In a rare home attack McGuckin played in a fine ball which Gillen kept an eye on and conceded a corner. McGuckin took the kick to the back post where Ashe’s header was cleared off the line by Greenhill.

In injury time Dunipace had a chance to win the tie but McGuckin fired his effort well wide.

FULL TIME: Dunipace 1 – 1 Broxburn Athletic

Into extra time, McNeil replaced Herron for the home side and McConnell for Newall for the Brox.

In 92 minutes Broxburn have a great chance to take the lead Churchill sending Douglas away but his lob was too high and cleared the bar.

Douglas and Brass combined 3 minutes later but Brass’s shot was too high and over the bar.

In 103 minutes Stevenson came on for McGuckin. McConnell was booked for Broxburn.

HALF TIME EXTRA TIME: Dunipace 1 – 1 Broxburn Athletic

In 106 minutes Dunipace made good ground down the left D.Grant’s chip into the box was eventually scrambled clear.

With time running out an Orru cross from the left was won by Douglas but his header just drifted wide of target.

With the home side now defending very deep Broxburn continued to throw everything at them Orru again providing a great cross which keeper Kane did well to take under pressure from Brass.

With Broxburn virtually camped around the Dunipace penalty box Donaldson had a shot saved by Kane which was scambled away clear.

The last chance in 120 minutes saw a Douglas effort charged down by a desperate home defence which broke to Churchill but the ball sat up and he fired over the top of the bar.

Donoghue replaced Blair before the referee ended the game.

FULL TIME EXTRA TIME: Dunipace 1 – 1 Broxburn Athletic

To penalty kicks, Stevenson converted for Dunipace but Douglas hit the bar with his kick. Donoghue saved Fleming’s kick with his foot and McConnell scored to tie things up. Ashe, D.Grant and Orru all scored but Churchill was high and wide with his penalty. This left McCroary to seal the tie for Dunipace which he duly did sending his penalty into the left corner of the net.

In an entertaining cup tie Broxburn just couldn’t find the key to unlock a resolute home defence. Its back to league business next week with a derby at Linlithgow Rose.

FULL TIME AFTER PENALTIES: Dunipace 1 – 1 Broxburn Athletic (4-2 penalties)

East Of Scotland Premier League: Jeanfield Swifts v Broxburn Athletic – 13 August 2022

Broxburn travelled up to Perth to take on league leaders Jeanfield Swifts at a sun soaked Riverside Stadium. The Brox had 7 changes in the starting line up Sinclair, Donaldson, Sayers, Greenhill, Henderson, Clark and Jeffries for Newall, D.Nimmo, Douglas, Gillen, Churchill, Binnie and Gray.
Bizarrely there were 2 injuries in the warm up 1 for each team. Binnie having to be replaced by Ross Nimmo and Reid starting in place of Fergus for the hosts.
Jeanfield made a positive start in 3 minutes Reid having a good run down the right playing the ball to Scott who played the ball inside to Stewart who shot wide of the left post.
Broxburn responded in 5 minutes Orru playing a great cross field ball to Nimmo who beat his man but his cross was behind Brass.
Jeanfield made good ground down the left but Smith’s cross was a poor one.
Hesitation in the visitors defence in 8 minutes gave Reid a great chance but he dragged his shot well wide to the right.
The left side was proving a good area of attack for the home side McLaren beat Sinclair with his cut back finding McLeish whose shot was blocked by Sayers.
In 12 minutes Broxburn were within a whisker of taking the lead, Henderson from a central position passed to Clark on the right and he played in a brilliant cross which Brass won with his head his header just went past the left hand post.
The home side played a long ball down field which Sinclair misjudged but McLaren’s cross had no takers in stripes.
Broxburn were keeping possession well and breaking to good effect Nimmo sending Henderson through but the winger shot well over.
Nimmo’s persistence saw him win the ball on the right in 17 minutes with his cross right on the money causing confusion between Whitehead and keeper Townsley but no one in red was on hand to profit.
Long balls were finding out Broxburn’s makeshift defence McLaren getting in the clear but he could only lob to Donoghue.
In 23 minutes Reid was booked.
In 27 minutes Nimmo mis controlled the ball it breaking to Smith but his shot was straight at Donoghue.
A glorious chance for the Brox to take the lead in 31 minutes Jeffries plays a neat pass to Henderson who slides a great ball to Brass down the right the striker is clear and one on one but he strikes his shot well but too straight at Townsley.
Jeffries was booked for the Brox.
Broxburn were having their best spell now Jeffries and Henderson linking well again with the winger making a good run down the right, his cross was accurate and fortuanately for the home side clips off Reid which was just enough to take the ball away from the late arriving Jeffries at the back post.
In 38 minutes it takes a brilliant save from Townsley to stop a cracking drive from Nimmo after Orru had played a great through ball to him. From the corner there were claims for a penalty for handball as Clark wins the ball with his head but the referee is unmoved.
In 42 minutes Smith combines well with McLaren but his shot is well over the bar.
HALF TIME: Jeanfield Swifts 0 – 0 Broxburn Athletic
In 47 minutes Jeanfield won a corner Smith takes but Brass heads clear well for Broxburn.
Brass is fouled by Sweeney just outside the penalty box to the right, Henderson takes the free kick but his cross disappointingly doesn’t beat the first man.
In 58 minutes a mistake from Sinclair allows McLaren some room Sayers does well to block his cross the ball breaking back to McLaren but he fires well wide of the right hand post.
On the hour F.Smith’s corner is swung in well from the left and hits the right hand post.
A minute later and Henderson gets in a shot with his left foot which he doesn’t catch at all well and it trundles past the left hand post.
The second half was noticeably being played at a slower pace than the first given the hot conditions.
Downie replaced Nimmo in 70 minutes and Reid off with Robertson on 2 minutes later for Jeanfield.
Greenhill was booked in 73 minutes for pulling back McLeish.
In 79 minutes Broxburn broke forward Brass beating 2 defenders before being fouled. Mollison was booked.
Henderson’s free kick was well struck but straight at Townsley.
In 80 minutes disaster strikes the visitors, from a long ball Sinclair is pressured by Robertson, instead of knocking the ball out of play he tries to shepherd the ball out but is tackled and loses the ball. Robertson’s cross is a low one but straight at Donoghue from the left, the keeper fumbles the ball on the ground straight to McLEISH who fires the ball into the right hand corner of the net.
In 82 minutes Donaldson is adjudged to have handled the ball just outside the penalty box F. Smith takes with Donoghue pulling off a good save to tip round the post.
Churchill came on for Clark in 85 minutes.
In a sweeping move on 87 minutes down the right Scott’s cross is mishit by McLeish but McLAREN is on hand at the back post to fire in a second home goal.
Stewart is booked as is Henderson.
In 90 minutes Struthers replaces McLeish.
A real sickener of a defeat with the 2 late goals, after a real gutsy performance from a makeshift Broxburn side, deserving of some reward. The team continue on their travels to Fife next week at Oakley United.

Tranent Juniors v Broxburn Athletic

Pre Season Friendly: Tranent Juniors v Broxburn Athletic – 12 July 2022

Broxburn made the trip down to East Lothian to face last season’s East of Scotland champions Tranent Juniors. The Brox made 6 changes to the starting line up from last Saturday against Dundee North End, Donaldson, Jeffries, Newall, Churchill, Brass and Douglas replacing Nimmo, Sayers, Clark, McConnell, Downie and Binnie.
Both sides took time to settle into their passing on a glorious night for football at Foresters Park.
In 7 minutes Donaldson floated a nice free kick down the right with Anderson forcing a corner off Broxburn’s Donaldson. Harrison headed strongly clear from the corner.
Broxburn responded in 9 minutes Douglas laying the ball off to Churchill who’s run forward was blocked the ball breaking to the right and hitting off Newall and safely through to Scott in the home goal.
In 11 minutes a let off for the visitors with Currie finding Maughan down the right and his cross was caught on the volley by Docherty 25 yards out and his effort crashed off the bar.
The left was proving a good area to attack for the home side Greig sending in a cross which Maughan got to but diverted the ball wide of the left post.
The Brox responded well creating a chance from an Orru cross which Newall did well to strike a good shot which the Scott parried away and was cleared by the defence.
Good combination play from Douglas, Churchill and Brass resulted in Brass’s shot being blocked. The ball was switched wide to Douglas who sent over a great cross but they were no takers in red to convert.
In 17 minutes Anderson was fouled 25 yards out, Simpson took the free kick but was too high and cleared the bar.
Tranent continued to make ground down their left Docherty this time cutting inside to fire off a great shot which Wallace had to dive full length to save.
The chances continued to fall for the home side Maughan being sent in on goal but a heavy touch allowed Wallace to smother at his feet.
In a very open game in 24 minutes McConnell played a nice pass to Churchill who advanced and cracked a great shot from 25 yards which Scott tipped over the bar when it seemed destined for the top corner.
Neat play again in midfield saw Anderson play a pass to Docherty on the left , he once again advanced and hit a shot which just went past the right hand post.
It was no surprise when the opening goal arrived from the left hand side Greig’s cross was met by MAUGHAN whose shot went into the net past Wallace.
It was Docherty again who created another chance for the home side this time cutting inside past Newall but his shot was straight at Wallace.
In 43 minutes Simpson hit a great drive from 25 yards but once again Wallace pulled off another great save.
HALF TIME: Tranent Juniors 1 – 0 Broxburn Athletic
Changes for the start of the second half Broxburn replaced Jeffries with Clark.
Tranent introduced Stevenson and Sommerville for Bauld and Murphy. Carter replaced Scott in the home goal.
In 48 minutes Broxburn were close to an equaliser Newall clipping in a nice ball for Brass to get his head to which Carter did well to tip over. From the resulting corner Harrison headed wide.
There were shouts for a penalty in 51 minutes as Douglas tried to get past Barr but the referee wasn’t impressed and allowed the game to continue.
In 57 minutes Sommerville did well to cut out an Orru cross with Brass ready to apply a finish.
On the hour the Brox made 7 changes, Gillen, Donaldson, McConnell, Churchill, Newall, Brass and Douglas going off. Sayers, Downie, Binnie, Murray, Henderson, Greenhill and Gray.
Tranent made 2 changes in 63 minutes Miller and Archibald coming on Currie and Simpson going off.
The Brox changes had a positive impact Gray showing great persistence in battling to get a ball through to DOWNIE who slotted the ball into the net in 65 minutes.
In 69 minutes Sayers played a nice ball down the right to Downie who gathered and put over an excellent ball into the home penalty box but it didn’t drop to a red shirt and the danger was cleared.
With the visitors in the ascendancy things suddenly fell apart in a 3 minute period, from a throw in on the right in 71 minutes no one picked up Anderson who rolled the ball across the Broxburn box where MAUGHAN had the simple task to tap the ball into the net from 3 yards.
Worse was to follow Clark had to be withdrawn after picking up a knock, Tranent agreed to Broxburn being allowed to bring back on Gillen but a foul by Murray on Stevenson in the penalty box gave MAUGHAN a chance to complete his hat trick from the penalty spot which he duly did.
In 80 minutes Orru advanced down the left and passed inside to Gray who beat his man neatly and fired a shot just wide of the right hand post.
In 83 minutes Sayers was caught in possession by Greig who cut the ball back for Docherty but the winger fluffed his shot straight to Wallace.
Greenhill fed Gray with a couple of minutes left who collected the ball , advanced and struck another shot this time just wide of the left hand post. Tranent broke up the other end of the park Docherty dispossessing Sayers and got to the bye line but Wallace saved well smothering the wingers effort.
Another decent work out for Broxburn with lots of positives to be taken against a very sharp Tranent side who on this showing will acquit themselves well in the Lowland League.
Broxburn continue their pre-season build up when Bo’ness United come calling on Saturday to the Albyn.

The home side made 2 changes from last Saturday’s loss at Inverkeithing, Burrows and Walker coming in for Wilson and Thomson.

In the 2nd minute an excellent run by ex Brox player Ireland beating Newall all ends up but he couldn’t find a team mate with his cross. Seconds later and Weir was played clean through but was denied by a brilliant save from Donoghue.

Broxburn responded well in 5 minutes from a Brass head flick Gillen cracked a rasping drive off the underside of the bar.

The Brox continued to go forward Brass again controlling well finding Donaldson who beat 2 defenders before feeding the ball to Barker whose cross was blocked for a corner. Greenhill delivered the corner deep to the back post Donaldson won the header and headed back across goal but there were no takers in stripes.

Thomson came on for the hosts in 10 minutes for the injured Walker.

In 15 minutes Whitehill had another glorious chance Newall mis-controlled the ball leaving Burrows in the clear, Newall clearly pulled Burrows jersey which the referee did not see which was enough distraction to allow Donoghue to collect the ball.

From a Nicol cross Brass won the header but it deflected out for a corner. A nice short corner routine between Greenhill, Binnie and Nicol saw the latter shoot but too far to the right of the goal.

Harrison was booked in 26 minutes for kicking the ball away/dissent. From the free kick McKinlay put over a great ball which was flicked on and just out of reach of Shyngle.

Whitehill continued to press Weir this time on a great run down the left beating 2 defenders but his cut back couldn’t find a colleague.

Ireland was next to set off on a run down the left beating 3 defenders but was eventually crowded out.

With the hosts in the ascendancy they won a penalty Weir having been brought down at the edge of the box on the left. Connor took the penalty poorly straight at Donoghue who pulled off the save.

Broxburn ended the half a little better an intelligent ball from Greenhill down the right found Gillen his cross was flicked on towards goal by Barker but was cleared. Right on half time Greenhill stuck a sweet shot from 25 yards out which Dibaga had to save.

Half Time: Whitehill Welfare 0 – 0 Broxburn Athletic

In 53 minutes Brass played the ball wide to Newall who fired in a good cross which Dibaga in the home goal came out to claim with Binnie ready to pounce.

Greenhill was booked for handball a minute later which didn’t look intentional. Burrows fired the resultant free kick wide.

Broxburn were doing a little better from open play and from a good deep Newall cross Barker made a desperate lunge at the ball but just couldn’t direct on target.

In 57 minutes Broxburn had a succession of corners Harrison heading down towards goal but blocked by Miller. Dibaga then had to tip Greenhill’s next kick over his bar.

On the hour a Greenhill foul saw him receive a second yellow and then a red card for his second bookable offence.

In the following minute O’Neill was booked after a heavy challenge on Donaldson.

Brass was then booked for a foul on Miller.

The game was now being perpetuated by a lot of fouls McKinlay receiving a yellow card for a foul on Newall in 68 minutes.

In 71 minutes O’Neill got in a shot on goal which deflected through to Donoghue.

Broxburn then created a real opportunity a minute later a Binnie cross was blocked breaking to Brass who turned and hit a fierce shot which Dibaga did well to beat clear, Donaldson then appeared to be impeded going for the loose ball but incredibly was booked for diving, no penalty awarded.

Within a minute Donaldson committed a foul and was promptly shown a second yellow and a red card reducing the visitors to 9 men.

Whitehill almost took the lead in 74 minutes McKinlay hit the bar from 25 yards with the Brox defence scrambling clear.

In 75 minutes Cowley replaced Binnie. Wilson replaced Thomson for Whitehill.

A further blow for Broxburn in 87 minutes Dan Nimmo picking up an injury Beagley coming on.

Broxburn had a couple of break aways in injury time Brass prominent couldn’t find Beagley on the first occasion but did on the second with the youngsters shot being blocked.

Full Time: Whitehill Welfare 0 – 0 Broxburn Athletic

Into extra time with another yellow card brandished appearing to be Burrows of Whitehill. Weir then had a great shooting opportunity but shot wildly over.

The deadlock was broken in 94 minutes with the home sides numerical advantage paying off, Mendes slipping the ball to Burrows back to Ireland whose deep cross was met by WEIR who slid the ball past Donoghue.

In 96 minutes Burrows was replaced by Burns.

McKinlay was then sent clear but took a terrible touch allowing Donoghue to collect.

Beagley then got a shot on target for the Brox forcing a save from Dibaga.

Extra Time Half Time: Whitehill Welfare 1 – 0 Broxburn Athletic

Into the second period of extra time with the home side seeming quite happy to sit on their lead.

Broxburn sent Harrison forward into the attack. Wilson replaced McKinlay.

Then a bizarre mistake from Dibaga as he attempted to clear the ball bobbled in front of him, his attempted clearance struck BRASS on the head and into the net.

Binnie who had been subbed was booked from the bench!

Once again tempers became frayed Mendes and Newall booked as a melee broke out.

In 119 minutes a long throw from the right from Miller broke to Mendes whose overhead kick went wide.

Then with penalties beckoning Miller swung in a cross from the left which SHYNGLE met first time and his shot beat Donoghue and into the net.

Miller was booked for running away with the ball.

In injury time Barker was sent off for dissent and a Whitehill player carried off leaving the teams 10 v 8 as the final whistle blew.

Newtongrange Star had an outside chance of avoiding relegation if the League winners were to win the play off and get promoted to the Lowland League with fifth from bottom their highest possible position .

It was Broxburn who created the first opportunity with Craig Newall and Ross Nimmo creating a chance down the right before crossing into the box but was just too high for Jackson Barker . A  couple of minutes later Greg Binnie and Ross Nimmo created an opening when Nimmo crossed Liam McCathie got caught out by the flight of the ball but recovered enough to palm away for a corner . Newtongrange put on some pressure and when Adam Nelson’s shot was saved by Shaun Donoghue it broke to Tom Davies who sent his effort over the bar . On 14 minutes a Ross Nimmo free kick into the box was met by Gordon Donaldson but the defenders header went over the bar . An opportunity on 51 minutes when a free kick was awarded just outside the box to the visitors  central to goal but Ross Nimmo’s effort went over the bar . A goal burst was started on 59 minutes when a free kick into the box was cleared only to Gordon Donaldson who put the ball back into the danger area for GARY BRASS who had to turn and face the goal before firing past McCathie . Two minutes later the visitors went 2-0 up when a ball into the box was only cleared as far as DAVID GREENHILL on the edge of the box and he fired into the back of the net with McCathie no where near it . Within four minutes Newtongrange were back in the game when a ball into the box from the left was first saved by Donoghue but the ball broke to DAVID MALLOY , who had not long come on , gathered himself before firing home a lifeline . Penicuik Ath v Broxburn Athletic

Attendance 245

It was Broxburn who had the first opportunity when Andrew Mair fired in a shot and Watt turned the ball for a corner . On 8 minutes Broxburn had a strong claim for a hand ball in the penalty but for the second game in a row the officials did not want to know . Broxburn were pushing hard and a corner in 12 minutes broke out to Murray who shot wide right . Half way through the half Nicholas Reid was in on goal in the right hand side of the box but Shaun Donoghue was equal to the shot and turned the ball away At the other end Binnie saw a shot deflect for a corner a minute later  .The corner played in was met by the head of DANIEL NIMMO who fired home out leaping everybody to win the ball .

The hosts equalised less than ten minutes later when a ball on the edge of the box was cleared three times breaking to a home player three times before a back heel saw NICHOLAS REID from sixteen yards fire into the bottom right hand corner . .During the melee previous Paul Tansey was lying poleaxed in a fifty fifty challenge with Dan Nimmo and had a serious head injury that no one noticed and Paul had to be replaced . On forty minutes Gary Brass met a ball in from the left and headed back across goals but was too far in front of Binnie coming in at the back post .Two more chances fell to Nimmo from a corner which he headed over the bar and  a good one two with Binnie saw the big striker fluff his lines with a miskick as he tried to turn the ball home under pressure .

A mix up in midfield saw Penicuik steal the ball and were awarded a free kick which Baptie fired goal ward but Shaun saved well . Good play down the right by Broxburn saw a shot deflected for a corner . The corner in was headed just wide of the right hand post . On 55 minutes a good run down the right by Reece Hope ,  saw the Penicuik players attempt go just wide .On the hour mark good play saw a Brass shot from just inside the box on the right evade the keeper but came off the far post and back towards the keeper with Binnie bearing down on the loose ball the referee gave a free kick as he thought the keeper had it under control .Half way through the second half and Robert Watt looked lively to tip a Binnie 20 yarder over the bar . The corner in was met by Nimmo but this time his header shaved the wrong side of the right hand post . Up the other end a couple of minutes later Penicuik should have taken the lead when Baptie put a great ball into the six yard box in front of Lumbert Keteleza who snatch his opportunity wide right of the target .

A fair result with both sides claims to the three points during the game . We now go into cup action at home to Inverkeithing Hillfield Swifts on Saturday with more confidence after a good team performance against the league challengers .

Dundonald Bluebell v Broxburn Ath

Attendance 130

Broxburn started brightly and should have had a penalty in 5 minutes when James Lennox in the hosts goal clearly brought down Gillen when attempting to score at the back post but the referee never seen nothing wrong . Gary Brass saw a shot deflect for a corner on nine minutes . A minute later good play saw a Andy Gillen have a shot that the keeper had to have two attempts to gather the ball .  Gordon Donaldson saw a cracking free kick saved has he fired it in from the right with the keeper pusshing it for a corner . Half way through the half Connor Wallace was brought in to the action when Darren Ormiston was through on goal but saw his shot saved well . Dundonald were coming more into the game but it was Tait who had the only other chance of the half when shooting into the side netting after a good run .  The second half started badly for Broxburn when a long throw in from the left seemed to bounce awkwardly in the box and came off ADAM MURRAY before going in to the net . On the hour mark Tait made a good run in from the left and his cross was met by the head of Donaldson but it went wide right of the target . The visitors had a great chance to equalise in 64 minutes when Wedderburn was adjudge to have handled the ball in the box and Greg Binnie took the penalty down the middle which the keeper saved and cleared from the danger area . On 73 minutes McKenzie was booked quite rightly for simulation in the box which resulted in the home coach Fotheringham being booked for his protests at the booking . Two minutes later a corner into the visitors box was me by the head unchallenged of Craig Wedderburn but he should have done better than send the ball over . The hosts doubled their lead on 76 minutes when another long throw in from the left saw the ball bounce up and LEWIS McKENZIE headed the ball up and over the keeper into the far top corner . Broxburn had one more chance when Donaldson put a good ball in for Newall but his header went wide right .
