Broxburn Athletic v Cumbernauld Colts

Last Tuesday, we took on Cumbernauld Colts in the Lowland League Cup Quarter Final at Albyn Park.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional kits, Red and white shirts, white shorts and red and white socks.

Broxburn Athletic make three changes from Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Celtic B. In comes Alasdair Shrive, Kyle Bell and Robbie Hamilton, who replace Scott McCrory Irving, Luke Watkins and Jon Robertson.

Cumbernauld Colts make two changes to their 3-1 loss to Celtic B on Saturday the 7th of February. In comes Patrick Moy and JJ Stevenson who replace Jay Gilles and Jack Devlin.

Both teams had their share of the ball in the first half, without many talking points and not a single shot on target.

First real chance came from the visitors on the twenty fifth minute. Adam Fernie does well to keep the ball in play before getting his cross into the box. His cross finds the head of Thomas Horn who heads wide.

Big shouts for a Broxburn penalty on twenty-nine minutes. Kyle Bell plays a great cross field ball to advanced Robbie McGale on the right. His shot looks to come of a Colts hand. But referee Duncan Williams waves play on. Broxburn have the ball in the back of the net on thirty-four minutes. Gallagher Lennon’s long ball finds Kane Thomson, who chips Colt’s keeper Harry Broun and the ball drops into the empty net. But he is offside.

On fifty-three minutes, a shot by Cumbernauld Colts midfielder JJ Stevenson fizzes past the left-hand post.

A Kyle Bell shot is over the bar on fifty-eight minutes.

GOAL! Cumbernauld Colts open the scoring on seventy-two minutes. Adam Fernie’s cross finds JJ Stevenson who slams it home from close range.

Broxburn make a change on seventy-three minutes. Luke Watkins replaces Robbie Hamilton.

Cumbernauld Colts make a treble change on seventy-six minutes. On comes Mark McCafferty and Abraham Osemeke who replace Daniel Hatfield and Thomas Horn.

Jamie Docherty is booked on eighty-three minutes for descent.

It wasn’t a good night for us last night. Three subs on the bench, one being a keeper and the other two carrying knocks. Wasn’t much between the sides. But Colts took their chance. We look to get back to winning ways on Friday night against Hearts B.

We return to Albyn Park this Saturday in Lowland League Cup action as we take on University of Stirling.

Broxburn Athletic are in their traditional home kits. Red and white shirts, white shorts and red and white socks. University of Stirling are in all green kits.

Broxburn Athletic make three changes to the team that lost 2-1 to Bo’ness United on Saturday the 3rd of January at Albyn Park. In comes Bob Watt, Alasdair Shrive & Luke Watkins who replace Jack McConnell, Chris O’ Kane & Jon Robertson. Visitors University of Stirling make five changes to their 2-1 defeat to Hearts B at Ainslie Park on Friday the 2nd of January. In comes Adam Buttigieg, Ben Heal, Euan Walker, Finn Regan & Thomas Vonk. They replace Alex Sutherland, Calan Ledingham, Finlay Moffett, Lewis Blane & Jay Burns.

Broxburn are first to threaten on two minutes. Sam Gormley finds Luke Watkins with a good Crossfield ball. His cross/shot kisses the bar on the way over and University of Stirling clear their lines. On four minutes, Scott McRory-Irving’s deflected shot is saved by Uni keeper Adam Buttigieg.

GOAL! It’s University of Stirling who break the deadlock on fourteen minutes. Ben Heal finds Archie Gibson whose shot is blocked. The ball comes out to Liam Trotter whose shot from distance beats Bob Watt and finds the bottom right corner.

On twenty-one minutes, Greg Page plays a great Crossfield ball to Robbie McGale whose cross is cleared for a corner by Uni’s Duncan Laird. The resulting corner is cleared by the visitors. A minutes later, Sam Gormley drives forward from defence and shoots wide of target.

A cross from Uni’s left winger Finn Regan, looks routine stuff for Bob Watt, but he fumbles the ball, luckily Sam Gormley clears for Broxburn. The Broxburn keeper makes a vital save on twenty-seven minutes. He comes off his line and makes himself big, blocking a Thomas Vonk shot.

Jamie Docherty chipped the ball forward finds Errol Douglas who is about to pull the trigger, but University of Stirling’s Ben Heal makes a great defensive header and clears the danger.

Lennon Gallagher finds Jamie Docherty in a forward position, but his shot is right at University of Stirling keeper Adam Buttigieg. On forty-one minutes, a corner by Robbie McGale finds Sam Gormley whose header is saved by Buttigieg.

Broxburn looked of it in the first half. Hopefully some harsh words by John Miller sparks them into life in the second half.

HALF TIME (1-0 University of Stirling)

On forty-seven minutes, Robbie McGale’s low cross finds Luke Watkins whose shot is wide of target. A free kick by Robbie McGale is headed wide by Alasdair Shrive. Two minutes later, a Robbie McGale cross finds Errol Douglas whose header is cleared of the line by Uni’s Dylan Brown.

 GOAL! Broxburn equalise on fifty-eight minutes. A corner by Robbie McGale finds Greg Page who heads home at the back post. 1-1

Broxburn Athletic make a double change on fifty-nine minutes. On comes Kyle Bell & Robbie Hamilton who replace Scott McRory Irving & Jamie Docherty.

GOAL! Broxburn take the lead on sixty-five minutes. Matty McDonald finds Robbie McGale wide right. He cuts inside and finds the bottom left corner.

On sixty-eight minutes, Kyle Bell drives into the box and squares it for Robbie Hamilton whose shot is pushed wide by Uni keeper Buttigieg. The resulting corner taken by Robbie McGale is headed over by Scott McRory-Irving.

Visitors University of Stirling make a treble change on seventy minutes. On comes Nathan Tallen, Jay Burns & Carter Jenkins who replace Archie Gibson, Finn Regan & Thomas Vonk.

Unfortunately, Broxburn Athletic left back Gallagher Lennon is injured and can’t continue. Broxburn Athletic make a double change on seventy-three minutes. On comes Jon Robertson & Marcus Lavery who replace Matty McDonald & the injured Gallagher Lennon.

On seventy-four minutes, University of Stirling make a change. Lewis Blane replaces Alex Jeanes. On seventy-six minutes, a Dylan Brown header is over the bar for the visitors.

Broxburn winger Luke Watkins cuts inside from the right and his shot is pushed wide for a corner by Adam Buttigieg.

On eighty minutes, Uni hit Broxburn on the counter- attack. Nathan Tallen feeds in Jay Burns whose shot is narrowly over the bar.

GOAL! University of Stirling equalise on eight four minutes. A shot by Uni substitute Nathan Tallen hits of the sliding Broxburn defender Sam Gormely and into his own net.

Substitution Broxburn Athletic on eighty-three minutes. Nick Locke replaces Alasdair Shrive.

On eighty-six minutes, a shot by Kyle Bell is saved by Uni keeper Buttigieg.

GOAL! Broxburn are back ahead on eighty-eight minutes. A Greg Page free kick finds the left corner from the edge of the box.

GOAL! Broxburn add a fourth on ninety-one minutes. Robbie McGale’s cross from a corner on the right is headed home by Errol Douglas.

A better second half from Broxburn sees us through to the next round.
