This Saturday, we turn our attention to the Lowland League Cup, with University of Stirling visiting Albyn Park. 

The University of Stirling management team consist of head coach Craig Geddes, assistant coach David O’ Brien and goalkeeping coach David Binnie.

Hearts B fought back with second half goals from Connor Dow on fifty-four minutes and Tommy North on sixty-three minutes.

Broxburn took the lead on six minutes. A long kick forward by Mikey Andrews sees Uni keeper Adam Buttigieg come of his line, the ball bounces over him and gifts Jamie Docherty a tap in from close range. Broxburn added a second on thirteen minutes with a Scott McRory Irving cracker. Chris O’Kane heads down to McRory Irving. He drives forward and from twenty-five yards, finds the right top corner with a great hit. Broxburn add a well worked third goal on nineteen minutes, Jamie Docherty plays a lovely one-two with Kyle Bell who finds Errol Douglas in the box. There is only one outcome. He scores low into the net. On thirty-seven minutes, Broxburn have a penalty. Chris O’ Kane is wiped out by Calan Ledingham, and the referee has no hesitation and points to the spot. GOAL! Up steps Errol Douglas who slots into the right corner.

University of Stirling pull one back on fifty-five minutes. From a Dylan Brown corner, Duncan Laird scored with a good strike. Broxburn wrapped up the three points with a fifth goal on sixty-two minutes.  Andy Rodden’s dipped ball into the box is chased down by Chris O’ Kane who pokes home from close range, for his first in Broxburn colours.

Bo’ness United gave their supporters a late Christmas present with a win over local rivals Linlithgow Rose in the derby. The hosts took the lead with just two minutes on the clock. Linlithgow score the opening goal on twenty-four minutes. Connor McMullan’s high ball into the box is picked up by Ciaran Greene who takes a touch before converting his shot into the right corner.

Broxburn equalise on thirty-three minutes. Linlithgow add a second on forty-two minutes. Lucas Stenhouse takes on two Broxburn players before dinking it over Broxburn keeper Mikey Andrews and into the net. Linlithgow have a third right on half time. Ciaran Greene’s long ball forward finds Dylan Paterson, who has beaten the offside trap with just the keeper to beat, he keeps his cool and slots into the right corner.

Linlithgow Rose make it 4-0 on sixty-five minutes. A cross from Lucas Stenhouse from the left finds Alan Sneddon who scores from close range. They added a fifth two minutes later. Lucas Stenhouse picks up, drives at goal before finding the bottom left corner with a shot.

Broxburn equalise on thirty-three minutes.  Robbie McGale does well to get beyond two Bo’ness players to the byline. Whitburn defeated Camelon 5-4 at Central Park in the East of Scotland Premier League in an absolute classic. Ross Crawford gave the hosts the lead on twenty-five minutes, but an own goal and a Ross Kavanagh goal put the visitors 2-1 up going into the half time break. Ex Broxburn striker Zander Miller scored a double to put Camelon 4-1 ahead. Whitburn pulled one back on seventy-nine minutes through Ross Crawford with his second, on eighty-one minutes Frankie Aitchison scored making it 4-3 Camelon. Ross Crawford equalised on eight nine minutes with his Hatrick! and deep into injury time Whitburn won it with a Darren Liddell won it for the hosts with a fantastic comeback, scoring four goals in the last eleven minutes.

After passing an earlier pitch inspection, this game was in doubt an hour before kick-off. The heavy rain was really affecting the pitch, and you could see it cutting up in the warmup. Referee Andrew Craven decided it was game on. Broxburn scored the only goal of the game on thirty-six minutes. Nick Locke plays in Bryan Mwangi who is in a footrace with ex Badger Andy Gillen. Whitburn keeper Sean Brown comes out and totally misses the ball, leaving Bryan Mwangi with an open goal, he scores! 1-0 Broxburn.

In a game of not many talking points, it was Broxburn who progressed to the Quarter Final of the EOSFL Qualifying cups, where they overcame Thornton Hibs at Albyn Park 3-0, but were eliminated in the semi final at home to Linlithgow Rose 6-1 in March this year.

Broxburn had a third goal on sixty-five minutes. Nick Locke’s ball forward finds Shaun Brown who accelerates away from Callum Pitt and slots it cooly into the left corner.  Broxburn make it 4-0 on eighty-three minutes. A scramble in the box is chested down by Chris O’ Kane for Errol Douglas. Douglas takes a touch with his right to set him up and scores a good low finish with his left foot. A minute later and Broxburn have a fifth. Nick Locke plays in Errol Douglas. He flies through on goal rounds the keeper and taps into an empty net, making it 5-0 Broxburn.

.Broxburn take an early lead on five minutes. Jon Robertson picks up on the right and plays a ball forward to Louis Kennedy. The Broxburn wingers cross is half cleared as far as Jamie Docherty, who takes a touch before scoring into the left corner. Two minutes later it was 2-0. Jon Robertson plays it infield to Kyle Bell who drives forward, before playing in Louis Kennedy. Kennedy’s shot is palmed away by Albion keeper Alfie Halliwell. The loose ball is half cleared by Devan McColl as far as Jamie Docherty who scores a great finish on the half volley that kisses the bar on the way in.

Albion Rovers pulled one back on seventy-three minutes, Lancelot Pollard takes on two Broxburn players before cutting it back for Tony Garth who scores from close range. Two minutes later Broxburn regained their two-goal lead. Errol Douglas heads on for Jamie Docherty whose shot deflects for a corner. GOAL! Jamie Docherty takes the resulting corner. It bounces into the direction of Marcus Lavery who stabs home his first ever Broxburn goal against his old club. Rovers pulled a goal back on eighty minutes. Tony Garth gets the break of the ball on the right he cuts it across for William Thomson who scores from close range.

Currently, St Andrews lie in ninth position in the 2025/26 East of Scotland Premier Division.  Winning six, drawing two and losing seven of their fifteen fixtures so far.

Bo’ness took the lead on eleven minutes, when Callum MacDonald gave the hosts the lead with a finish at the back post. Lewis Milne equalised with a cracking volley on thirteen minutes. No more goals in the first half as both teams went in 1-1 at the break. On Sixty-Five minutes, a clearance from the Bo’ness goalie Ramsbottom hit Greig Spence and spun into the net for 2-1 St Andrews. Bo’ness were level from the penalty spot in injury time with Callum McDonald grabbing his second. But St Andrews won it in deep into injury time with David Maskrey slotting home sending the St Andrews fans wild.

The last meeting between the sides was in the 2018/19 East of Scotland Conference C.

Broxburn took an early lead on eight minutes. Nick Locke took on the St Andrews full back on the left and his ball over was turned in by Ross Nimmo. On twenty-three minutes, a Cammy Ross corner was headed home by Chris Townsley, putting the hosts 2-0 up at the half time break.

The visitors did get a lifeline with 16 minutes remaining when Wilson made a run to the bye line and when he cut it across the goals Donaldson cleared the ball, but it rebounded off Shaun Harrison and bounced into the net for an own goal.

That season Broxburn Athletic were crowned champions with St Andrews finishing in eight position.

Lee Gallacher gave the Bankies the lead on sixteen minutes from the penalty spot after Aaron Black was fouled in the area, this goal put the home side 1-0 up at the half time break. On sixty-four minutes, Lee Gallacher added a second with a great finish into the top corner from the edge of the box. Clydebank added a third on eighty-six minutes, with Keir Samson latching on to a slack pass, rounding the keeper and scoring into an empty net. Clydebank added a fourth on ninety-two minutes from a Neil McLaughlin close range finish.

Clydebank eliminated Broxburn Athletic from the South of Scotland Cup with a convincing 4-0 win at Albyn Park.

Clydebank have the lead on six minutes. Lee Gallacher’s free kick is headed on in the direction of Liam McGonigle. The Clydebank wingers cross in is parried by Bob Watt, but only as far as Matt Niven who forces his effort over the line for the opening goal of the game. On nine minutes, Clydebank have a second, a very good goal. Oison McHugh plays a one-two with Liam McGonigle who scores high into the net. On 41 minutes, Broxburn’s day goes from bad to worse. Gary Brass is shown a second yellow card for a foul on Oison McHugh and Broxburn are reduced to ten men just before half time.

Bonnyrigg Rose eliminated Cumbernauld Colts from the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 victory at Broadwood last Saturday. Jay McGarva gave Rose the lead six minutes into the game, with a good finish from a good ball through from Danny Dobbie. It was 2-0 Rose on fifty-nine minutes from an own goal by Colts Skipper Liam Allison. Colts manager John Doyle was sent to the stand late in the game by referee David Alexander for dissent.

Colts took the lead on ten minutes. Zak McKay’s shot hit the bar and deflects of Jack Duncan and into his own net. It was 2-0 on forty minutes. Zak McKay plays a one-two with Callum Wilson who cross deflects out to Euan Ross who scores past the outrushing Broxburn Athletic keeper Jordan Pettigrew.

Nothing clicked for Broxburn that day and Cumbernauld Colts played some decent stuff and took their chances.

Broxburn Athletic took all the points in reverse fixture between the sides back in August.

The Blue Brazil took the lead with only a minute on the clock, with Jack Denham scoring a header from a cross. Broxburn dominated the rest of the first half but couldn’t take their chances and it was 1-0 Cowdenbeath at the half time break.

But Broxburn hit back two minutes into the second half, with ex Cowdenbeath player Jon Robertson heading home from a Marcus Lavery cross. The Badgers took the lead on seventy-five minutes. Andy Rodden’s cross is headed down by Chris O’ Kane for Errol Douglas who volleys home high into the net. A good showing from Broxburn that day, who showed great character in the second half to come from behind and win 2-1.
